Jurnal Biologi Sains dan Kependidikan is an open access journal published twice a year in June and November by the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Islamic Religion, University of Muhammadiyah Aceh. This journal focuses on pure Biology research and Biology learning research at all levels of education units. The scope of this journal is (but is not limited to): Research in the field of pure biology with various perspectives including biodiversity, biostatistics, ecology, morphology, physiology, behavior, microbiology, histology, genetics and biotechnology. Research in the field of Biology Education includes learning concepts, lesson plans, learning models, curriculum, school management and management of biology or science laboratories, evaluation and assessment of Biology learning, as well as other studies for the scope of Biology education.

Abstract

The Aceh Ulema Council (MUI) issued MUI fatwa Number 83 of 2023 regarding forms of support for the Palestinian struggle, namely prohibiting buying products that are clearly affiliated with supporting Israeli aggression. One way is not to use Zionist products, we can avoid this by replacing dish soap with natural ingredients. The aim of this research is to utilize lime plants (Citrus aurantifolia .S) as well as alternative halal products as dish washing soap and test the effectiveness of washing soap for removing dirt. The method in this research is experimental. The tools used are containers, wooden stirrers, and napkins. The ingredients used are distilled water, lime extract (Citrus aurantifolia .S), and a soap formula which is sold in packages. Presentation of data in the form of images and tables. The research results show that soap from lime extract (Citrus aurantifolia .S) is proven to be able to remove fat dirt and can create a fragrance resulting from the addition of fragrance in the manufacturing process. The conclusion of this research is that making dishwashing soap from lime extract can remove dirt, smell good and can be an alternative to halal products.

Abstract

Gampong Lambaro Skep is one of the villages in Kuta Alam district in Banda Aceh which has a mangrove ecosystem. Aquatic fauna community is one of the significant components of mangrove forest ecosystem. In order to fill the availability of biodiversity data which is basic prerequisite for developing knowledge and utilizing biodiversity in Aceh, accordingly research was conducted on the Diversity of Aquatic Fauna Species of Mangrove Ecosystem in Gampong Lambaro Skep Kuta Alam, Banda Aceh. The objective of this research is to determine the species richness and the level of diversity of aquatic fauna in the mangrove ecosystem in Gampong Lambaro Skep Kuta Alam, Banda Aceh. Samples were collected using the quadrate sampling method with destructive sampling techniques for aquatic fauna that occupy muddy mud or sand substrates. Meanwhile, samples for aquatic fauna that occupy hard substrates such as roots and trunks of mangrove trees were collected using the quadrat sampling method with a non-destructive sampling technique. Samples for aquatic fauna that occupy water column were collected with the exploring method using fishing nets. Data were analysed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. The results of the research show that there are 11 Species of aquatic fauna in the mangrove ecosystem in Gampong Lambaro Skep Kuta Alam, Banda Aceh. The level of diversity of aquatic fauna species in the mangrove ecosystem in Gampong Lambaro Skep Kuta Alam Banda Aceh is classified as moderate (H'= 2.058).

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the application of a structured numbered heads together type of cooperative learning model to improve biology learning outcomes in photosynthetic material for students of class XII MIPA.3 SMAN 12 Banda Aceh. The aims of this research are: (1) To determine student learning outcomes in studying cells through cooperative learning type NHT, (2) to determine the activities of teachers and students during the teaching and learning process using the cooperative learning model type NHT and (3) to see student learning responses after the application of the learning model NHT cooperative type. This research was conducted at SMAN 12 Banda Aceh from September 25 to October 2, 2019. Subjects in this study were 11 students of class XII MIPA male and 18 female students. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) using two cycles. The research results obtained from observation sheets, questionnaires, and tests were analyzed using the percentage formula. The results of the research on teacher activity in the first cycle were 78.15% and in the second cycle 93.76%, student activity in the first cycle was 70.11% and in the second cycle 85.16% and the test results showed an increase from 66.21% in the first cycle to 82.07% in cycle II. Meanwhile, the students' response to the application of the NHT type of cooperative learning model was very good, reaching 87.19%. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the application of the NHT type of cooperative learning model can improve biology learning outcomes in the photosynthesis material of the XII MIPA class students at SMAN 12 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the pattern of distribution of Acanthopleura gemmata and the characteristics of the habitat of Acanthopleura gemmata, in Lhoknga Coastal Waters, Aceh Besar District. The research method is observation. The research area was divided into 4 locations namely I Cemara Beach, location II Pasi Jalang Beach, location III Simet Beach and location IV Ujong Lhoknga Beach, Aceh Besar District. Sampling was carried out along the Litoral Zone. Parameters in this study are biological parameters and physico-chemical parameters. Data analysis used the Morishita Index and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The physico-chemical environmental factors at Lhoknga Beach are water temperature (28C-38C), sediment temperature (28C-38C) pH (6.81-6.95?7), and salinity (25o/oo-26o/oo). The results showed that the Simet Beach Morishita Index was 1.05 ?1, Ujung Beach was 1.01 ?1, while Cemara Beach and Pasi Jalang Beach did not have Acanthopleura gemmata. Habitat characteristics of Acanthopleura gemmata are found in coral rocks, moss and sand substrates. The conclusion of this study is the distribution pattern of Acanthopleura gemmata in the littoral zone of Lhoknga Beach which is random, the habitat characteristics of Acanthopleura gemmata are coral reefs, moss and sand sediments, while the distribution pattern has a positive relationship with the physical-chemical environmental factors of Acanthopleura gemmata which includes pH, except for salinity, water temperature and sediment temperature.Key words: distribution patterns, habitat characteristics, Lhoknga Beach

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability of prospective biology teachers to compose test items that measure students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), particularly in the subject of biology. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data source consists of fifth-semester students from the Biology Education Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA during the academic year 2021/2022, who are currently taking the course on Biology Learning Evaluation. Data collection is conducted through documentation techniques and interviews. The data is analyzed by comparing it with the criteria for writing HOTS test items and their alignment with learning outcome indicators. Data validity is tested using triangulation of techniques and sources. The research results indicate that students are capable of composing HOTS items according to the principles, including: measuring high-order thinking abilities, minimizing the recall and understanding aspects by 50.29%; being based on contextual problem-solving by 60.82%; and utilizing engaging stimuli by 48.31%, all of which fall under the 'sufficient' category. Therefore, the average ability of students in composing HOTS test items for the biology subject is 53.14%, categorized as 'sufficient'. The findings of this research are recommended for enhancing students' ability to create HOTS test items and serve as a reference for researchers aiming to improve the quality of teaching, particularly in the Biology Learning Evaluation course."Keywords: HOTS questions, Biology Teacher, Ability, Evaluation, Biology Lessons

Abstract

The antiseptic soap is a soap that has the ability to kill bacteria better than ordinary soap. To increase the antibacterial activity of soap, synthetic chemicals are generally added (TCC and TCS) which have a negative impact on health and the environment. Natural ingredient that can be used as an antibacterial in antiseptic soap is Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.). Lemongrass contains essential oil that can inhibit the growth of Staphyloccoccus aureus bacteria. This study aims to make a solid bath soap formulation with various concentration of Lemongrass ethanolic extract, namely Formula I (1%), Formula II (5%), Formula III (10 %). The formulation of bath soap without extract (F0) was used as a negative control. This research is an experimental study with a One Shot Case Study design. The examinations carried out were high foam and antibacterial activity by the well method. The results showed that the preparation of solid bath soap with Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L) ethanolic extract at F0, F1(1%), F2(5%) and F3 (10%) showed antibacterial activity. The diameters of the inhibition zones at F0, F1, F2 and F3 were 1.11mm, 1.70mm, 1.11mm, and 1.02mm, respectively. The height of the soap foam obtained at F0, F1, F2 and F3 respectively was 6.5 cm, 5.6 cm, 5.3 cm and 5 cm. The most effective soap formulation and has the potential to be developed as an antiseptic soap is F1 with an extract concentration 1%. The height of the soap foam in F1 produced was 5.6 cm and the bacteriostatic inhibition zone was 1.7 mm.

Abstract

 ABSTRACTThe lack of variety in the using of learning media is one of the factors that causes students' low interest in learning. This is influenced by the less active role of students in the learning process. One of the effort to overcome this problem is by applying learning media that is appropriate to the learning material, that is learning media based on Macromedia Authoware 7.0. The aim of this research is to determine students' interest in learning after using Macromedia Authoware 7.0-based learning media on circulatory system material. This research uses the Pre-Experimental Design method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population and the sample in this study were 8th grades students at SMPN 2 Kuta Baro totaling 18 students. Sample selection was carried out by total sampling. Data collection techniques for student interest using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis of student learning interest using the percentage formula. The results of the interest analysis at the first meeting showed a result of 58.3% with low criteria, then at the second meeting it was 79.98% with high criteria so that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. So it can be concluded that learning using media based on Macromedia Authoware 7.0 can increase students' interest in learning in 8th grades students at SMPN 2 Kuta Baro.

Abstract

Plants are organism that can produce organic materials needed for it self and another organism. The role of plants as the producers is very important for food chain in life. There are various types of plants that are very useful as the producers in Glee Reulueng, Leupung District, Aceh Besar. This study aims to determine the diversity, identify and analyze the composition of species, plants, and tree structures of forest vegetation. The method used were direct observation using the line transect. The plants observed were only poles and trees. The minimum size of pole type has a total height of 5 m and 10 m for trees. Data analysis was carried out by looking for density, frequency, dominance, important value index (INP) and some dominance ration (SDR). The results showed that there are 30 species of plant vegetation in Glee Reuleung, the Morisita distribution index of plant vegetation is random with a value of id = 1 and the diversity of plant species is classified as moderate, with the highest value in plot 1 (? = 2.91) and is lowest in plot 3 (?= 2.36)Keywords: Plant diversity, Line transect, forest vegetation, Glee Reuleung

Abstract

 Assessment plays a crucial role in the learning process, involving the systematic analysis of data collected from students' learning outcomes throughout the educational journey. One type of assessment implemented is formative assessment. This study aims to explore the steps involved in developing a formative test instrument using the Plickers application for teaching the human excretory system in SMP/MTsN. The research follows a Research and Development approach. The findings reveal the stages in developing the formative test instrument with Plickers, which include creating an account, setting up a class, formulating questions, downloading Plickers cards, and installing the Plickers app from the Play Store. The study concludes that the Plickers application is user-friendly for teachers and provides an enjoyable learning experience for students.

Abstract

ABSTRAKUpaya untuk pengendalian serangga pada tanaman selada (Lactuca sativa) hidroponik adalah memberikan insektisida berbahan alami salah satunya terbuat dari ekstrak daun sirih dan bawang putih. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun sirih (Piper betle) dan bawang putih (Allium sativum) sebagai insektisida alami, serta konsentrasi yang berpengaruh paling baik sebagai insektisida alami pada tanaman Selada (Lactuca sativa) hidroponik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengan 4 perlakuan dan 6 ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai FHitung FTabel yaitu 13,34 (5%) 3,09 dan (1%) 4,93 yang menyatakan bahwa ada pengaruh pemberian ekstrak daun sirih (piper betle) dan bawang putih (allium sativum) sebagai insektisida alami pada tanaman selada (lactuca sativa) hidroponik, Perlakuan dengan tingkat intensitas serangan terendah oleh serangga pada P3 (19,64%) dengan rentang skala 1 (kerusakan ringan), sedangkan perlakuan dengan tingkat intensitas serang tertinggi terdapat pada P0 (39,47%) dan dengan rentang skala 2 (kerusakan sedang).
