Abstract

The research is aimed to isolate and observe the morphology of chitinolitic bakteria. The research was conducted since November 2010 until Apryl 2011 at Microbiology Laboratory ofMathematics and Sciences Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala. The method used is experimental method. Locations of water sample taken are at sea, river, and embankment which taken in some areas around Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The results showed that there are 18 pure cultuated chitinolitic bacteria isolates. And the results of morphologycal bakteria colony showed that all isolates were circle shape colony. It was found that the flat shape of colony is 14 isolates and 4 serrated. The sizes of colony were found from 1,0 mm until 3,5 mm. The white isolate are 13 and 5 yellowish. The most of isolates are negative gram which bacil and coccus cell shape.

Abstract

Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is one of Indonesia's biodiversity. This animal classified in endangered species. Habitat loss, degradation, habitat fragmentation and exploitation of resources due to human activities lead to the unavailability of habitat for wildlife. Fragmentation of wildlife habitat frequently cause loss of natural habitat. The purpose of this research are (1) to describe the Sumatran Elephant habitat disturbance, (2) to determine the extent of damage caused by the Sumatran Elephant and (3) to determine the local community perception sorrounding of human-elephant conflict area on the conservation of elephants and their habitats in Lembah Seulawah, Aceh Besar. Collecting data used descriptive research with quantitative approach and proportional sampling tehnique. The study was conducted in Lembah Seulawah, Aceh Besar in May 2016. The data collected using field survey, questionnaire and deep interview. Research data showed in descriptive and percentage. Analysis of the level of damage to the quality scale, and analysis of local community of perceptions using chi-square. The results of the study are (1) Disturbance plantation community in Lembah Seulawah between 0.5% - 2%, (2) Damage to habitat in Gampong Panca and Gampong Teuladan medium category, while Gampong Lamkubu is in lightweight category and (3) the public perception was good (X2count X2table, 35.54 16.9) and support to cponserve of sumatran elephant and their habitat.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the performance of contracting Biology teachers working on preparing teaching plan and teaching learning process. The population was 54 contracting Biology teachers who were teaching at SLTP and SMU in Nanggroe Aceh Darusssalam province. The sample taken by purposive random sampling was 24 teachers. The instruments used in this study were an essay test which was used for measuring the performance of teaching plan and teaching learning process by IPKM-1 and IPKM-2. The analyzed data showed that the contracting Biology teachers’ working on making teaching plan and t teaching learning process stay at level “enough and good”. It is supported by the average score 2.53 for making teaching plan and 2.14 for teaching learning process.

Abstract

The research on species of  Anopheles’ breeding places has been carried out at Desa Rukoh in the District of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh from February to June 2007. The aim of the research was to identify species of Anopheles’  breeding places at Desa Rukoh. In this research, the purposive sampling method has been implemented to obtain the samples from ten different locations around Desa Rukoh. Data collection was conducted by catching the larva at breeding places and catching the adult Anopheles  trapped by using Aspirator and Light Trap. CCD microscope was  used to identify the species of Anopheles. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by using the descriptive approaches. Based on laboratory analysis, it has been identified that three species of Anopheles namely, An. subpictus, An. vagus,  and An. sundaicus. The breeding places of Anopheles  at Desa Rukoh were ponds, buffalo’s trash dam, ex man’s footprint, ditches and swamp.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the characteristics and feasibility of high school students problem solving skills assessment on Biology. This research is using Research Development model which refers to Borg Gall. Assessment developed are open-ended cases. Product validation conducted by subject matter and evaluation experts. Test involving 88 students from three different schools. Data from the field test were analyzed using the Quest program. Assessment  components that have been developed includedskills to defining the problem, checking the problem, planning a solution, implementing the plan, and evaluate.The study shows that the assessment instrument has a validity that fit with the Rasch model and high reliability. The final result that 13 % items were easy, 41,7 % items were moderate, and 46,3 % items were categorized as difficult. Discriminationindex in each item have a minimal interpretation of "sufficient"

Abstract

The research aims are (1) to know the duration of stigma receptive and pollen viability maximally as guidance in artificial pollination process in Melon; (2) to know the degree of success of artificial pollination and its relation with production (quantity) and quality (weight) of Melon, has been conducted. The research method is used to determine pollen viability and receptive stigma. Therefore, experimental method is used to test the success of artificial pollination toward production and fruit quality. The obtained data was analyzed by Anava and regression. The result indicated that (1) Receptive stigma maximum occurred by the time the flower opens; (2) Pollen viability maximum occurred a day after the flower opens; (3) Quantity and quality fruit through the process of artificial pollination increase 35,51 % compared to natural pollination.

Abstract

Penelitian akumulasi logam cadmium bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui organ yang mendominasi akumulasi logam cadmium pada tiga spesies ikan dan (2) mengetahui tingkat toleransi  logam cadmium pada tiga spesies ikan di perairan Krueng Keureutoe Kabupaten Aceh Utara. Penelitian dilakukan di perairan Krueng Keuretoe Kabupaten Aceh Utara, pada bulan Maret sampai April 2013. Pengambilan ikan target dari Krueng  Keuretoe dilakukan dengan jala, dan pancing menggunakan metode survei, sedangkan penetapan organ target dilakukan dengan metode bedah. Analisis organ yang mendominasi  akumulasi ikan dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan antara organ lain yang terakumulasi cadmium, sedangkan analisis data tentang  akumulasi logam cadmium dilakukan dengan metode AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry). Hasil diperoleh adalah organ yang terkumulasi cadmium pada hepar berkisar antara 0,0130 – 0,0336 ppm, sedangkan tingkat akumulasi logam cadmium pada otot 0,0001-0,0299 ppm, dan pada cor berkisar 0,0008-0,0252 ppm. Kesimpulan diperoleh adalah organ yang paling dominan terakumulasi logam cadmium adalah hepar yang sudah melebihi nilai ambang batas baku mutu.

Abstract

Poultry sector remain problemed in animal health system. Several of infectious poultry diseases are spread across regions in Indonesia, such as Avian Influenza (AI), Newcastle Disease (ND), Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), Cholera, Pullorum, Dwarfism, and Ascariasis. Candida albicans is a flora in a chicken otherwise in immunosuppression (immune system disorder) condition turned into a pathogen. One hundred day old broiler chickens (DOC) into four groups, divided into four groups. Group CC0 (control), fed with basal comercial nutrient, group CC1 chickens fed with basal and infected C. albicans (dose of 105 CFU/ml), group CC2, chickens fed with basal and treated by corticosteroids (3 mg/Kg), group CC3, fed with basal and treated by corticosteroids (3 mg/Kg) and infected C. albicans (dose of 105 CFU/ml). Each group contain 5 replications. Bursa of Fabrisius were collected for histopathology assay using Haematoxylin Eosin stained method. Haematoxylin Eosin stained method applied for HP assay. HP assayed cause Bursa of Fabricius were decreased of their activity. Based on research data obtained, this research concluded that corticosteroids and C. albicans infection resulted decreasing of lymphoid activity of chicken. Corticosteroids and infection C. albicans  together were giving lower respon of lymphoid activity compore to each treatment of corticosteroid and C. albicans.

Abstract

This research is conducted to reveal : (1) the application of science study strategy with CLIS study model to improve the students’ understanding of earth and universe concept, (2) the science study strategy with CLIS study model to improve the academic attitude of students, (3) the teacher’s and students’ response to science study strategy with CLIS. Method of the research is a Classroom Action Research  (CAR), consisting of three cycles. The data were collected using a test, an observation, and an interview. The result of the students’ concept understanding test was processed statistically using “t-Test”. The improvement of student’s understanding was corelated with Pearson Correlation Technique, while the interview and observation were described, then concluded. The result of data analysis indicate that the model of CLIS for universe and earth concept can improve the mastery of concept. In the first cycle action, it is seen that the acquirement of t0 was 9.069; in the second cycle the t value was 4.054; and in the third cycle it was 9.442; which is bigger than tt of only 2.025. It indicates that CLIS study method has improved the students’ concept understanding in every cycle. The correlation result of the first cycle indicates that the value of r is  - 0.273; in the second cycle, the value of r was equal to 0.222. While in the third cycle, the value of r is 0.000. It indicates that the CLIS model study does not influence the improvement of the students’ academic attitude. This study model requires much longer time than study method usually used by the teacher, but the students are happy to study with CLIS study model.

Abstract

Limbah air cucian beras mengandung senyawa organik yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber hara. Pengaruh limbah air cucian beras terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman pakchoy belum diketahui. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh air cucian beras dan dosis yang tepat air cucian beras terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman pakchoy. Pendekatan penelitian adalah kuantitatif dan jenis penelitian adalah eksperimen. Rancangan penelitian adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial, dengan 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Dosis perlakuan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu P0 (kontrol/0% air cucian beras), P1 (25% air cucian beras), P2 (50% air cucian beras), P3 (75% air cucian beras), dan P4 (100% air cucian beras). Air cusian beras yang digunakan adalah air cucian beras yang pertama. Parameter yang diukur yaitu tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah daun (helai), dan berat kering (gram). Data dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Of Varians (ANOVA), sedangkan uji lanjut berdasarkan nilai KK yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitan diperoleh bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari berbagai konsentrasi air cucian beras terhadap  tinggi tanaman pakchoy pada umur 10 dan 20 HST) dan berat kering, namun tidak pada jumlah daun. Dosis yang paling baik bagi pertumbuhan tanaman pakchoy adalah 100% air cucian beras  untuk semua parameter, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa air cucian beras berpotensi sebagai pengganti pupuk kimia untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan pakchoy
