Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to test the effectiveness of sports massage on reducing pain and increasing Range of Motion (ROM) of the lower extremities, especially the ankle joint, and to determine its level of effectiveness in futsal players. Methodology: The study used a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used were the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to measure pain and a goniometer to measure ROM. The sampling technique was carried out incidentally with 20 respondents. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Main Findings: The results showed that sports massage significantly reduced pain levels and increased ROM in both plantar flexion and dorsiflexion movements. The effectiveness of reducing pain was 50.79%, increasing plantar flexion ROM by 92.19%, and dorsiflexion by 94.49%. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes to the non-pharmacological approach in the management of minor sports injuries, especially muscle pain and mobility limitations. This study shows the effectiveness of sports massage as a cheap, practical, and easy-to-apply physical recovery method for futsal athletes.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: To examine the impact of an 8-week dietary intervention, based on USDA 2010 guidelines, on nutritional behaviors, metabolome, and microbiome of young adults at risk of disease. Methodology: This study utilized an 8-week, free-living, randomized trial using Nutritionist Pro™ (Axxya Systems), ActiGraph GT3X accelerometers, and 16S rRNA sequencing for microbial profiling. Participants were counseled with weekly tailored interventions by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Biochemical, anthropometric, dietary intake, and microbiome data were collected and analyzed using SAS and JMP software. Main Findings: The intervention increased fruit, vegetable, and fiber intake while reducing saturated fat and empty calorie consumption. Significant improvements were observed in systolic blood pressure, waist circumference, and total cholesterol. Microbial analysis revealed decreased Firmicutes and increased Bacteroidetes post-intervention, along with improved inflammatory markers and serum ceramide levels. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study uniquely integrates dietary intervention with a multi-omic approach including metabolomics and microbiome analysis in a young adult population. It provides foundational evidence for personalized nutrition and translational research, highlighting how targeted dietary changes can influence microbial composition and metabolic health.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: this research intends to explore how reflective practice is being perceived and applied within an elite English football academy setting. Specifically, it aims to investigate how key staff, working as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), interpret and implement The FA’s Plan-Do-Review model. Furthermore, how do academies mobilise reflective practice according to the values and unique cultural environment of the Club under the auspices of the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP). Methodology: The study used a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews involving twelve MDT members. Moon’s Model of Reflection and The FA’s Plan-Do-Review framework guided thematic analysis using manual coding. Main Findings: Findings indicate that 1) There is a disconnect between the understanding and learning of reflective practice through coach education courses and its application within the real world. 2) Reflective practice should be nurtured and developed through strong networks and interprofessional collaboration, utilising communities of practice and mentoring relationships both in and outside the work environment. 3) The different disciplines working within an MDT will engage in reflection to varying depths and levels. Rather than viewing reflection on a hierarchical scale, the level and method of reflection should be determined by the individual, their experiences, and the context. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides empirical insight into real-world reflective practice among sports professionals, offering a novel multidisciplinary perspective and practical recommendations for coach education and academy policy.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the relationship between leg muscle strength and leg muscle power on students' athletic performance at school. Methodology: The method used is correlational research with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 19 students selected by purposive sampling. The instruments used include a leg dynamometer to measure leg muscle strength, and a vertical jump test to measure leg muscle power. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman's rho correlation test. Main Findings: The results showed a significant relationship between leg muscle strength and power and students' athletic performance (p = 0.046 < 0.05). This study confirms the importance of leg muscle strength and explosive power in supporting achievements in athletics, especially running and jumping. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a novel insight by specifically examining the direct correlation between leg muscle strength and leg power as distinct yet interrelated components influencing athletic performance among school students a demographic often overlooked in biomechanical performance research. The findings provide new evidence on how targeted development of these physical attributes can enhance students' performance in school-level athletics.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to explore efforts by government and non-governmental organizations to preserve Traditional Filipino Games and examine whether Filipino children still play, understand, and prefer these games over digital alternatives. Methodology: This study used document analysis and literature review methods, examining prior research including surveys by Booc et al. (2019) and experimental data from Santos et al. (2019). Quantitative data was processed using SPSS and paired samples t-tests to assess mobile games' impact on student understanding. Main Findings: Efforts to preserve traditional games include Magna Kultura's Larong Pinoy Program and legislative support via House Bill 8626. Some children still play and value these games for cultural and social reasons. Mobile gaming apps showed mixed effectiveness; only the game Luksong Baka showed significant improvement in understanding, indicating potential but limited digital preservation success. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study uniquely synthesizes grassroots, academic, and governmental perspectives on preserving cultural heritage through traditional games. It highlights the digitalization of indigenous play as both a preservation tool and educational strategy, offering a multidisciplinary approach to cultural sustainability in the face of modern technological influence.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify the composition and needs of recreational sports personnel in Lokawisata Baturraden to support service quality and operational safety in recreational facilities. Methodology: This research applied a descriptive qualitative method using the Miles and Huberman model for data analysis. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Tools included structured interview guides and dichotomous questionnaires analyzed manually. Main Findings: There were 17 recreational sports personnel managing four main facilities: slide pool, paddle boat, flying fox, and water boom. Only flying fox personnel held relevant certificates. Other facilities lacked certified or appropriately gender-diverse staff. Female personnel were notably absent where needed for safety and visitor support. Educational qualifications were mostly limited to senior high school. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides a practical workforce needs analysis for recreational sports tourism in a natural tourism setting. It identifies competency gaps and safety risks, offering recommendations for recruitment and certification strategies to improve visitor service and safety in recreational destinations.
