Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to improve students’ agility through the implementation of game-based Nawatobi learning in elementary physical education. It focuses on enhancing student participation and motor skill development by applying a structured and engaging learning approach in classroom settings. Methodology: This study used classroom action research with two cycles involving 26 sixth-grade students. Data were collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, and agility performance tests. Instruments included structured observation forms and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques and percentage calculations to measure learning activity and improvement outcomes. Main Findings: The findings show a significant improvement in students’ agility and participation from the initial condition to Cycle I and Cycle II. Student activity, motivation, and engagement increased substantially. Most students achieved higher agility performance levels, indicating that the implementation of game-based Nawatobi learning effectively enhanced both motor skills and learning participation. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study introduces a structured integration of Nawatobi as a game-based learning approach specifically targeting agility development. It combines motor skill assessment with student engagement analysis within a classroom action research framework, providing a practical and context-based model for improving physical education learning in elementary schools.

The sample consisted of 23 students selected through total sampling, and data were analyzed using percentage descriptive statistics. Main Findings: The results indicate that students’ learning motivation is in the high category, with intrinsic motivation being more dominant than extrinsic motivation. Students showed positive responses in physiological, safety, and self-actualization needs, as well as social interaction and appreciation. Small-sided games effectively promote active participation, enjoyment, and engagement in adaptive physical education learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides empirical quantitative data on learning motivation in adaptive physical education through small-sided games at the Outstanding Junior High School level, which is rarely explored. It integrates intrinsic and extrinsic motivational dimensions in a comprehensive framework, offering a holistic understanding of student motivation in special education contexts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study examines the individual and simultaneous relationships of sports extracurricular activeness, learning motivation, discipline, and responsibility with physical education achievement among eleventh-grade Science Track students at State Senior High School 1 Grobogan, Central Java, Indonesia. Methodology: A quantitative correlational cross-sectional design was employed with 84 eleventh-grade Science Track students selected via proportionate random sampling from a population of 112. Data were collected using four validated five-point Likert-scale questionnaires and official semester report card grades. Prerequisite assumption tests and multiple linear regression analysis were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 21.0. Main Findings: All four variables showed significant positive relationships with physical education achievement. Discipline demonstrated the strongest individual correlation (r = 0.833), followed by responsibility (r = 0.796), extracurricular activeness (r = 0.789), and learning motivation (r = 0.677). Simultaneous regression analysis confirmed that the four variables collectively explained 90.6% of achievement variance (R² = 0.906, F(4,79) = 190.987, p < 0.001), with responsibility yielding the highest effective contribution (27.6%). Novelty/Originality of this study: This study is the first to simultaneously examine sports extracurricular activeness, learning motivation, discipline, and responsibility as combined predictors of physical education achievement among Indonesian senior high school students within a single regression model, identifying responsibility as the dominant behavioral determinant and demonstrating the collective predictive power of affective and extracurricular variables.
