Abstract

Accounting students essentially learn the process of preparing financial statements for companies. Among the various accounts in financial statements, one is the fixed asset account. When calculating fixed assets, depreciation expenses must be considered, as asset values can decrease over time. This training aims to enhance students' understanding and compare the straight-line method applied in Indonesia with the MACRS method used in the United States. Calculating depreciation using MACRS is not taught in accounting courses. However, in line with our objectives, we are conducting this training to calculate depreciation expenses and compare the two methods to analyze their implications for gross profit. The methods employed in this activity are lectures and discussions. It is expected that through this program, students will broaden their knowledge and gain insight into how depreciation expense calculations differ between countries. The financial statements to be used in this activity are from PT Unilever Tbk.

Abstract

Kasimpar village is part of the Petungkriyono protected forest and is located in the Welo watershed, which is connected to the Sengkarang watershed and has the potential to become a charming ecotourism area. However, this potential makes the area vulnerable to natural disasters, especially landslides and floods during the rainy season. Unfortunately, the level of knowledge and preparedness of the community in dealing with disasters is still relatively low, which can exacerbate the impact of disasters. Landslides and floods that occurred in Kasimpar Village, Petungkriyono Subdistrict, Pekalongan Regency in early 2025 encouraged the community to be early in coping with disasters. This community service aims to increase the capacity of the Kasimpar Village community in dealing with disasters through a community-based disaster mitigation education program. This community service activity was carried out by Real Work Lecture students of UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan and field supervisors and collaborated with BPBD Pekalongan Regency by applying socialization implementation methods including education about disaster mitigation and strategies for forming disaster preparedness volunteer groups. After implementing this community service program, the results showed that the community who participated in disaster mitigation education activities were inspired to form a special team that would be prepared for inauguration as a Disaster Resilient Village (Destana). The community also felt interested during the activities as seen in the enthusiasm in asking questions. This program is expected to become a model for community empowerment in disaster mitigation in other vulnerable areas.

Abstract

In today's digital era, the combination of digital financial literacy and digital skills is critical in facing financial challenges and technological demands. Children and adolescents face new challenges, including the dangers of online loans and illegal investments. Lack of financial literacy puts children and adolescents at risk of becoming victims of irresponsible practices that can harm them financially and psychologically. Many of them are attracted to offers of quick loans or illegal investments because of high returns without understanding the risks. Therefore, to prevent adolescents from getting caught up in fraudulent investment scams and illegal online loans that can put them in high interest rates, education and understanding are needed in using digital financial applications wisely and in accordance with Islamic principles. This community service was carried out at the Sungai Pinang Village Hall, Rambutan District, Banyuasin Regency. The method used in this study is an educational method that is carried out by providing socialization about understanding Islamic digital finance. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas with limited access to healthcare services. The low level of public awareness regarding early detection and healthy lifestyle practices further exacerbates this condition. This community service activity aimed to conduct blood glucose screening and provide health education for elderly residents in Buhung Bundang Hamlet, Bontotiro District, Bulukumba Regency. The method employed in this program was a participatory-educational approach based on the Participatory Action Research (PAR) model. The activity was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Supporting tools included a digital glucometer, a simple screening form, and an educational leaflet titled “Beware of Diabetes! Recognize the Symptoms, Prevent Early.” A total of 20 participants, all elderly residents, were involved in the activity. Results showed that 95% of participants had normal blood glucose levels (<140 mg/dL), while 5% (1 participant) was found to have elevated levels (≥200 mg/dL), indicating potential undiagnosed diabetes mellitus. The educational session and the leaflet effectively improved participants' awareness of diabetes risk factors and preventive measures. This program demonstrated that a participatory and educational approach in community service can be an effective preventive intervention to raise health awareness and promote early detection of non-communicable diseases in rural communities. Similar activities are recommended to be conducted regularly, involving local health volunteers as community-based health educators.

Abstract

The main objective of this community service is to improve the understanding and practical skills of MSME partners in financial literacy and management as a fundamental strategy to increase their business competitiveness. The main problems faced by MSME partners include (1) a lack of understanding of the importance of financial literacy; (2) a lack of structured transaction recording practices in accordance with accounting standards; and (3) the lack of a clear separation between personal and business finances. This results in weak control over cash flow and difficulties in determining working capital and business profitability. The method used in this activity is an educational approach through interactive lectures and technical assistance. The activity is carried out in several stages, including a preliminary survey, program socialization, training implementation (focusing on the importance of financial literacy, fund separation, and income-expenditure recording practices), activity evaluation, and program sustainability planning. It is hoped that through this community service, MSME actors in Olak Kemang Village will not only understand the theory but also be able to implement good financial management, so that simple financial reports can be presented, business capital can be managed well, and ultimately be able to encourage sustainable growth and MSME competitiveness.

Abstract

The mentoring program on the internalization and implementation of the meaning of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday (Maulid Nabi) commemoration for students at SMKN 2 Pariaman aims to instill the values of the Prophet’s exemplary character as a foundation for developing religious, social, and moral attitudes. The method employed was a participatory approach through lectures, discussions, and practical activities that actively involved students. The results indicate that students were able to understand the essence of Maulid Nabi not merely as a ceremonial tradition, but as a moment of spiritual reflection and the actualization of noble moral values in daily life. The positive impact of this mentoring was evident in the students’ increased awareness of the importance of emulating the Prophet’s character in honesty, discipline, responsibility, and social care. Therefore, this activity provides a significant contribution to strengthening Islamic character formation among the younger generation in the school environment.

Abstract

According to the WHO (World Health Organization), regular breakfast intake in children has been proven to be associated with healthy body weight and intelligence in children. Breakfast activities, which consist of eating and drinking between waking up and 9:00 a.m., fulfill 15-30% of daily nutritional needs. This is related to blood glucose levels and brain function, especially concentration in learning in the morning. Glucose contained in breakfast plays a role in a person's memory (cognitive) mechanism, and nutrition is a food or drink substance needed for growth. Malnutrition that occurs at a young age has negative impacts on children, including: children are prone to mental fatigue, difficulty concentrating, low self-esteem, and decreased academic performance. Achievement or success in learning can be operationalized in the form of indicators, namely grades, study achievement index, graduation rates, graduation predicates, and the like. School-age children are an investment and the next generation of the nation. The quality of the nation in the future is determined by the quality of today's children. One effort to meet the nutritional needs of children is by providing healthy, nutritious food to them appropriately. The purpose of this community service activity is to educate elementary school children from grades 1 to 6 about the importance of a healthy and nutritious breakfast before going to school to increase their enthusiasm for learning. The target of this activity is 6th grade elementary school children. The methods applied in this outreach activity include: 1) initial observation and problem identification; 2) nutrition socialization and education; 3) healthy breakfast demonstration; 4) interactive games and educational quizzes; 5) evaluation and follow-up. This community service activity was carried out on October 15, 2025. Counseling on education about providing healthy and nutritious food to elementary school children to improve the quality of learning at MIN Gulai Bancah, Bukittinggi City. This needs to be held regularly, so that students' knowledge about the importance of breakfast before going to school is very important in improving the quality of learning and academic achievement at school.
