Abstract

Training and development practices are influenced by organizational direction and environmental dynamism. The organisational bottom line has been the main driver shaping these practices. For Islamic universities, they are influenced by the Tawhidic paradigm. This research aims to explore the influence of the Tawhidic paradigm on Islamic universities’ training and development practices. The study employed qualitative research through personal interviews with staff members of Islamic universities. The Tawhidic paradigm influences training and development at Islamic universities based on the principles of ukhuwwah (brotherhood), ‘adl (justice), and ihsan (benevolence). These principles led to a supportive and cooperative work environment, encourage fair treatment and justice, and inspire individuals to go beyond their basic duties with compassion and benevolence. Furthermore, training and development also align with the Madani Malaysia principles of keMampanan (sustainability), kesejAhteraan (prosperity), Daya cipta (innovation), hormAt (respect), keyakiNan (trust), and Ihsan (compassion). The theoretical contribution enhances understanding of how the Tawhidic paradigm impacts training and development practices, emphasizing ukhuwwah, ‘adl, and ihsan with Madani Malaysia principles in ethical work environments. For policy implications, there is a need for policies that integrate the Tawhidic paradigm into staff training and development, ensuring ongoing training and adaptability. In terms of practical implications, this research guides practitioners in incorporating Tawhidic principles into training, fostering collaboration, fairness, and compassion, and aligning with Madani Malaysia values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the role of human capital in improving organizational efficiency and employee productivity in Islamic People's Economic Banks (BPRS) in Indonesia. This research was conducted on 350 BPRS employees in East Java Province using purposive sampling technique. While data collection was done through questionnaires. The research was conducted because in 2024 out of 174 BPRS in Indonesia, only 7 BPRS have core capital exceeding Rp 50 billion. This limitation hampers the ability to provide adequate supporting infrastructure and high-quality human resources, especially in a market segment that demands the presence of high-quality human capital. Meanwhile, BPRS are still perceived as inferior to general banks by the public. Thus, this study provides strategic recommendations for BPRS management in improving organizational efficiency and employee productivity through human capital development. The results showed that human capital (HC) has a significant positive influence on improving employee roductivity (EP) with a coefficient value of β = 0.406 (p < 0.05) and organization efficiency (OE) with a coefficient value of β = 0.416 (p < 0.05). In addition, a healthy organization also has a significant positive effect on improving employee productivity (EP) with a coefficient value of β = 0.262 (p < 0.05). Overall, a healthy organization mediates the relationship between human capital and employee performance with an axb indirect effect value of 0.109 (p < 0.05).

Abstract

The development of the waqf paradigm in society represents a significant momentum in the effort to transform waqf management from traditional to professional practices, aiming to enhance the function and usefulness of waqf. To achieve this, waqf needs to be managed and developed professionally while adhering to Islamic Shari'a principles. However, many institutions or Nazir still do not manage waqf funds professionally. This research specifically discusses the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) and its application in the management of waqf at the Al-Qur'an Waqf Board (BWA) Yogyakarta. The main aim of this study is to examine the implementation of TQM in the management of waqf assets at BWA Yogyakarta. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a socio-economic approach to analyze the management of waqf in an institution responsible for collecting and distributing waqf funds. The implementation of TQM at BWA Yogyakarta has been carried out effectively, as indicated by the fulfillment of four out of five TQM indicators. However, there is one indicator that has not been fully implemented: the long-term commitment of Nazir. BWA Yogyakarta currently applies an annual contract system for Nazir, without a service period, which means that Nazir can continue to be part of the institution even after the age of 60. This lack of a long-term commitment leads to frequent changes in staff, which could affect the consistency and sustainability of waqf management. Despite this, the overall implementation of TQM at BWA Yogyakarta has been effective in meeting most of the TQM indicators, with the exception of the long-term commitment indicator.

Abstract

Professional management of waqf funds will facilitate its growth and development. This article aims to shed light on the development and potential of Islamic insurance waqf in Indonesia, with a view to increasing its productivity and scope of development. Following the issuance of the DSN-MUI fatwa in 2016, which addresses the issue of Waqf of Insurance Benefits and Waqf of Investment Benefits on the subject of sharia-compliant life insurance, Indonesia can benefit from the examples provided by countries in the Middle East, such as Egypt, which has long been a pioneer in the development of its waqf, which has become a permanent provision in Egyptian law. This research utilises a qualitative descriptive research design. The data collected is analysed by providing a comprehensive picture of the development of Islamic insurance waqf. The findings of this study indicate that the development of Islamic insurance waqf is positive and has significant potential in the future. This is due to the large Muslim population in Indonesia, which provides a great opportunity for the growth of this form of Islamic finance. Provided that the conceptual and concrete barriers that may hinder its development can be effectively addressed by the relevant authorities and the general public, its growth potential is quite significant.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the evolution of behavioral research in waqf literature, most influential authors, institutions and countries. It also explores the research trends and future research directions. This study analyzed 105 papers from Scopus using bibliometric approach and content analysis. The results show that behavioral analysis in waqf literature has grown steadily since 1999, with a marked rise in research output after 2017, peaking in 2024. Early studies focused on traditional waqf mechanisms, but recent research incorporates digital waqf technologies like blockchain and crowdfunding, emphasizing trust, religiosity, and attitudes as key determinants. These developments highlight the increasing integration of behavioral insights with waqf practices, reflecting broader trends in Islamic finance and socio-economic development. The field is dominated by Malaysian institutions, with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia leading contributions, followed by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Universitas Airlangga. Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Indonesia, plays a pivotal role in advancing waqf research. Leading authors, including Ismail S, Ratnasari RT, and Shukor SA, have significantly shaped the discourse. Major publication outlets, such as the Journal of Islamic Marketing and the ISRA International Journal of Islamic Finance, underline the regional focus on Islamic social finance. Research trends emphasize digital waqf technologies, cash waqf, and behavioral determinants like trust and attitudes. Future studies could explore generational differences, innovative waqf models, and the impact of digitalization on participation. Addressing these areas could enhance waqf’s socio-economic impact and broaden its appeal to diverse stakeholders globally
