Abstract

Mining sector is a natural resource that takes a long time to do exploitation. Mining activity is also a sector that has a great impact on development in an area such as economic, social and environmental. Therefore, the concept of sustainable mining development should be directed to achieve three objectives, namely economic development, social andenvironmental. Economic purpose is not only to focus on the macro-economic growth alone, but must consider the economic conditions of local communities. Then pay attention to social goals must be the local social and cultural conditions so that welfare can be improved. Further environmental objectives must considerthe balance of the environment around the mining activity. The amount of growth in the mining sector on development in the province especially in Aceh Besar district can be seen from the Gross Domestic Regional Product (GDRP). This sector has a major role to both the local economy and the growth conditions of the local communities. But the concept of sustainable development is not only economic growth alone is the target of development of a region. According to data from the Department of Mines and Energy of the Province of Aceh in 2011, there were six (6) mining companies operating in Aceh Besar regency which has contributed greatly to the GDP of Aceh Besar district. However, the selection of research sites only in existing mining companies in the district Lhoong as a case study because of the attention to the criteria of the concept of sustainable development. The results showed that the mining activity in the area during this study generated a lot of negative impressions for both regional and local communities. Aceh post-tsunami and post-conflict between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), a lot of investors who built the company's mining sector in Aceh Besar district, but the potential is very big problem will arise if the problems that exist today cannot be solved immediately. Ecological damage caused by the efforts of development and economic growth has provided a real threat. The condition raises concerns about the sustainability of resources for future generations in Aceh Besar district. Therefore, by introducing the concept of sustainable development of mining this is a solution to overcome the problems of existing mines in the province especially in Aceh Besar district. Keywords: Sustainable Mining, economic, social, environmental, Aceh Besar

Abstract

One of the competencies which students must possess is a mathematical understanding. Another aspect that supports understanding is self-concept. An effort that can be taken as a solution for improving students’ understanding and the self-concept is a model of learning which can lead students to find their concept. This model is often called discovery learning. This study aims to improve students’ mathematical understanding and the self-concept through the discovery learning model. In this study, the researcher used quantitative research. The population of this study was all senior high school Ulumuddin students in the 2016/2017 school year. The sample of this study was 40 students in grade 10 who were randomly chosen from two classes. The data in this study were obtained using instruments compiled in the form of questionnaires and tests that were answered by the respondents. The results showed that the improvement of students’ mathematical understanding and self-concept who obtained learning with the discovery learning model was better than students who gain learning without using the model of Discovery Learning. However, there was no interaction between the model and the levels of understanding and the self-concept of students. Keywords: mathematical understanding, self-concept, discovery learning.

Abstract

In 2011, the Australian government suspended live cattle exports to Indonesia, following footage of brutal slaughter of animals in some of Indonesian slaughter houses. The two countries give their statements relating to this case. These statements are certainly meant to bring about a certain purpose and expectation. It can be said that there are diplomatic activities, in the form of those statements, which have been done by both countries. The object of this research is utterances coming from the representative from Indonesia and Australia. And the aim of this research is to know what face concept and politeness strategies committed by Australian and Indonesian representatives on their statements. The research method used in the research is descriptive qualitative by applying Brown and Levinson (1987) politeness strategies. Another supporting theory is context theory by McManis, et al. (1987). The contexts that influence the utterance are physical, linguistic, epistemic and social contexts.

Abstract

Acknowledging that English is the world global language of science and intercultural communication, the problem of studying it is very acute today. However, not all the students are motivated enough to gain knowledge while they do not realize the importance of English. Thus the purpose of this research is to introduce the concept of “motivational maintenance” we work at. To clarify, it is the sequence of teacher's actions together with the curriculum itself aimed at creating a stable motivation for studying the language. Creating a curriculum is not enough, yet based on the "motivational maintenance", it will provide a deep inside into the subject and consequently lead to better results. "Why do I have to be proficient in English if my major is mathematics?" is a fundamental question each student should have an answer. The aim of foreign language teaching is to bring up a student as a competent and proficient language user. The paper provides methodical examples of how to use special educational techniques or tricks to make students be interested in the subject.  Motivation is the key concept in a process of teaching and learning that should not be underestimated. We are sure that to make students proficient a “motivational maintenance” has to be applied in a language-teaching context. Keywords:foreign language teaching, English as a foreign language, motivation, language proficiency.

Abstract

The study aimed to produce learning module in studying of carbon chemistry for third grade of senior high school students which has value of character and to analyze their perception after use it. This study referred to RD method with Borg Gall’s model which is divided into ten steps; research and collecting of information; planning; product developing; preliminary test; revision of preliminary test; field trial; revision of field trials; field implementation test; improvement of final product; and dissemination and implementation. Data wereanalyzedby using grade of module properness, teachers’ responses and students’ responses to the module and their perception after use it. Initially, the preliminary test was done by three validators and showed the percentage of 86% with a category of “very proper”. Then, field trials were graded by teachers among MGMP of chemistry in Banda Aceh and gave positive responses with a percentage of 84% of “very proper”. After that, the final product was implemented to students in SMAN 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh and indicated that it was “proper” with a percentage of 76%. Besides that, dissemination and implementation stages were conducted for students in SMAN 1, SMAN 5 and SMAN 6 of Banda Aceh and their perception to that module was 85%. Therefore, it can be concluded that developing of module contained value of character was proper to be used in learning of carbon chemistry.  Keywords: module, learning values, character, carbon chemistry, perception.

Abstract

The present study seeks to examine empirically the antecedents of internet intention and adoption of young creative entrepreneur by applying the conceptual theory of technology acceptance model (TAM). There were 237 respondents indicated as young entrepreneur in the creative industries in Malaysia. A close ended questionnaire was designed to tap into the owner’s perception on perceived usefulness of the internet, perceived ease of use of the internet, and perceived credibility on the internet technology, intention to use the latest technology and adoption of the current internet for the business itself. Seven hypothesised relationships were tested in the structural model of internet adoption. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS 24.00 was conducted to establish and validate a hypothesised model. The data was analysed using path analysis of structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the causal and mediating effects amongst exogenous and endogenous variables. Based on the analysis and goodness of model fit, the hypothesised model and its findings supported the TAM theory extremely and all the hypothesised paths were asserted. The generated model found three significant positive and direct paths between perceived usefulness, perceived credibility and intention as well as between intention and adoption. The re-specified model produces two significant positive and direct significant paths (perceived usefulness to intention and intention to adoption) and also introduces three new paths (direct paths from perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived credibility to adoption). The fundamental of internet adoption models also manage to establish a mediating effects of intention on the said relationships between exogenous and endogenous of internet adoption among young creative entrepreneur. The finding is discussed in the context of entrepreneur intention and adoption of the internet in Malaysia.

Abstract

Over the last 30 years, Libya’s population has grown at rates of about 2-3% per year. According to the Department of Statistics and Census, the total population in the country was 3.23 million in 1984 and it increased to 5.5 million in 2006. Human activities and over-exploitation of the available resources are the main reasons influencing and accelerating the phenomenon of desertification in the north-western Libya. The main objective of this study is to assess the impact of population growth factor on desertification and land degradation in the region. The findings of this study suggested that the population growth rate is an important factor that influenced desertification and land degradation in the study area. Moreover, the rapid population growth and high population density in the region contributed clearly in the deterioration of the weakened and fragile environment through exploitative hypersensitive pressure caused by the growth. In addition, the overexploitation of the region resources by man  had led to the deterioration of vegetation, groundwater depletion and soil erosion. These perpetuated the prevalence desertification and increased its severity in the region. Keywords:    Population Growth, Desertification, Land Degradation, Overexploitation, North-western Libya.
