Abstract

Aim: This paper aims to shed light on the question, "How did FC College’s missionary college status present a unique challenge for the institution between 1973 and 2002, and how did the institute recover its enduring legacy of national unity?" In addition, the study intends to provide a high-level overview of how FC College has attempted to accomplish all this by referencing specific cases involving two or more racial/ethnic student groups that are well-known for their contentious interactions on campus.Method: The research methodology employed in this study is primarily descriptive and analytical in nature, covering topics such as the institute’s history, the radical changes brought about by several state policies, and the various efforts put forth by the university’s administration to restore the institute to its former academic glory.Findings: The case of the FCC demonstrates that there is still a functional mechanism to involve the wide range of competing interests and identities that permeate modern society and the institutional milieu in which academia operates. The politicisation of universities can be avoided if a method is introduced that firmly emphasises the liberal and progressive side of all competing interests.Implications/Novel Contribution: This research is significant because it sheds light on a promising approach taken by some educational institutions, namely that fostering a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore their passions and develop their talents can also help reduce tensions between different groups based on race and ideology. While this is just one example, identity-based tensions persist at all Pakistani universities.

Abstract

Aim: This research aims to determine how much various choice factors matter when selecting an airline. This research aims to determine which factors are most significant to Hong Kong air travellers when making plans.Method: The residents of Hong Kong are polled in an empirical study to collect the necessary information. The manager at a conventional travel agency and three frequent flyers were interviewed in depth. There were a total of 387 responses to the survey.Findings: The findings revealed substantial differences in service perceptions between passengers of different ages and income levels, those who travel for business versus leisure, and those who play a decision-making versus a supporting role during a trip. According to the data, price is the most important consideration for passengers when selecting an airline and booking a flight. Possibly because of this, Low-Cost Carriers (LCC) have been gaining market share in recent years. Full-Service Carriers (FSC) can compete better with LCCs if they prioritise efficient flight operations, increasing flight frequency and decreasing delays. Since passengers place a premium on these considerations.Implications/Novel Contribution: To our knowledge, this is the first empirical study to examine how customers decide which airline to fly with based on how they made their reservations.

Abstract

Aim: This study aims to investigate and compare English teachers’ levels of contentment with their participation in language training courses offered by the Primary Educational Service Area Office in Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand. This research aimed to compare English teachers’ satisfaction levels with classroom language training courses in the Primary Educational Service Area Office in Nakhon Pathom Province based on demographic variables such as gender, years of experience as educators, and student population size.Method: Nakhon Pathom’s Primary Educational Service Area Office enlisted the help of 28 English teachers for their research. A questionnaire served as the data collection tool for this study. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance were used to analyse the data.Findings: The following are the study results: (1)English instructors rated their classroom language training courses as excellent or very good in all categories, except for the facilities used to support the training courses, which they rated as moderate. (2) Examining the attitudes of English instructors toward their own classroom language-learning programmes.Implications/Novel Contribution: This research is crucial because it contributes significantly to the body of literature on language instruction and provides helpful guidelines for students and instructors.

Abstract

Aim: This study aims to analyse how the calibre of the candidates running for regional heads affects voter turnout in local elections.Method: Interviews and careful observation were used as part of this study’s qualitative methodology. Primary and secondary sources were used to compile the data. Because of its interpretive and semantic compatibility with the proposed research problems, this research strategy has been chosen and is considered appropriate.Findings: The democratic process in Indonesia relies heavily on voter turnout. Voter turnout is a good indicator of how politically engaged a community is, so when it rises, so does the quality of our democratic system. Several factors, including the calibre of the candidates running for the regional head, can influence voter turnout.Implications/Novel Contribution: Multiple studies and surveys have failed to uncover any literature on the effect of candidate quality on voter turnout, and this lack of knowledge extends to Indonesia. The research community, therefore, agrees that this essay contributes something new to the scientific discourse.

Abstract

Aim: The research paper’s overarching goal is to dispel the widespread belief that "every immigrant is a terrorist" by showing that the vast majority of terrorists are actually citizens of the countries where they commit their atrocities.Method: Documentary research was used extensively from 2013 to 2016 to mine secondary sources for relevant information.Findings: The paper concludes by discussing the new trend toward the securitization of migration and its analysis of the connection between terrorism and migration. Based on the findings, it appears that after September 11th, migration shifted from being an economic phenomenon to one related to security and that politicians and the media painted a negative picture as a result. We cannot rule out the possibility that migration is connected to terrorism, perhaps not directly as depicted in the media but rather through a deliberate process led by terrorist organizations, even though much has changed since the earliest days of migration.Implications/Novel Contribution: The empirical impact on real life and how migrants will be perceived in real life is the practical significance of this paper. Terrorist attacks have increased in frequency and concern throughout the West, but there is a lack of literature addressing this topic.

Abstract

Aim: The attacks on the French satirical magazine on January 7, 2015, over caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad and other Islamic figures are discussed in this paper. The study’s goal is to assess how journalists feel about whether caricature constitutes hate speech or free expression.Method: The goal has been reached through an analysis of columns published in the top five daily Turkish newspapers in terms of circulation during the first six months after the massacre that claimed the lives of twelve people. Before diving into the columnists’ responses, we first analyse the larger context of this discussion, including how hate speech is defined, who it is directed at, and how it relates to free speech.Findings: The language used in the mainstream media was not found to be severe enough to increase prejudice and discrimination in this study. Many newspapers published columns that emphasised free speech and peace within the first six months after the Charlie Hebdo attack. The study’s findings show that the media outlets reported controversial topics by favouring one political viewpoint over another.Implications/Novel Contribution: The significance of this study lies in the fact that it uses media scanning, one of the most effective methods in the development of hate speech within the scope of research on hate speech in the national media, to bring attention to the separatist rhetoric and xenophobia used by individuals or communities who are the objects of hate speech. If we want to create a sustainable society based on fairness and equality, the language used in the media is crucial.

Abstract

Aim: The study’s overarching objective was to investigate how people use tablet computers.Method: As part of the screening model used in this study, interviews with professionals in the field were conducted. Twenty students will be randomly selected from the study group’s visual roster.Findings: In this study, we found that as technology has advanced, the demand for tablet computers has also grown. These gadgets have a variety of uses, including education, business, and leisure. They worked very well as training materials when used on computers. More and more often, people’s preferences are influenced by factors such as when and where they received their education. Communicating with the user in multiple ways (visually, aurally, and physically), these gadgets make it possible for students to learn in a way that best suits them, wherever they may be, at whatever time of day. Tablets, equipped with purpose-built educational software, can be used in the same environment as traditional classroom instruction, allowing for more focused learning.Implications/Novel Contribution: The findings can be used to promote a greater understanding of the potential of education in the classroom. Students should use the findings to deepen their expertise in computer-based networking and problem-solving.

Abstract

Aim: As part of this research, we created a mobile app that illustrates the steps involved in folding an origami paper, thereby introducing people to a facet of Japanese traditional culture. Numerous marketing resources are needed to spread the word about Japanese. The authors believe that traditional Japanese lifestyle culture is beautiful for many reasons.Method: Origami was studied as a tool for tourism through a qualitative method.Findings: Origami describes a set of meanings that are psychologically significant in representing forms and the functional study of line drawings, as demonstrated by the results. Some preliminary data suggest that the number of international visitors to Japan is rising due to ongoing promotion efforts.Implications/Novel contribution: Since few studies have been done on 3-D Origami’s potential for boosting tourism, the current study stands out as original.

Abstract

Aim: This research hopes to offer solutions to these issues based on real-world examples of data discrepancies between Japan and China. We’re building a database of information to close the gap in Japan and China’s understanding of each other across all disciplines.Method: However, it is challenging to implement a method that addresses all aspects of cross-cultural information gaps, so it is important to find a mechanism that satisfies the criteria for information quantity, immediacy, and practicality to address the intercultural knowledge gap.Findings: Results show that the proposed system constructs the knowledge base with the high-level immediacy to renew the information organically depending on the situation. This improves practical utility by storing information that broadly matches users’ needs. Through the use of artificial intelligence, it delivers content that is tailored to each user based on their current activity. Data can be stored, updated, and searched in the system, but that’s not all it can do. To fully realise the system’s interactivity, we integrate post/read/reuse functions for the user comments. As a result of this research, we will be able to implement a knowledge base to address issues with cross-cultural communication.Implications/Novel contribution: The innovative aspect of this study is that it proposes an immersive interface for consumers and expects it to be a powerful instrument for their cross-cultural exchange of ideas.

Abstract

Aim: This research aimed to examine the relationship between citations (Bibliometrics) and readers’ intentions (Altmetrics) for each type of scholarly document by applying altmetrics tools to measure their attitudes toward highly cited content in the field of information security.Method: Scopus was used to identify the most prolific types of documents published in the field of information security in the years 2014 and 2015, as this was thought to be an appropriate time frame for the scholarly production to be freely accessible in full text and, consequently, for the right to use and cite to be taken, as well as for the production to be used and interacted with across various social media channels. Among scholarly writing, conference papers, articles, and book chapters fared best. We picked the 20 most-cited articles from each document type to gauge reader intent and analysed them.Findings: This research found that articles received the most citations among all document types studied, followed by conference papers and book chapters. Articles that received the most citations also attracted the most reader intent. Given the interconnected nature of citations and goals, this finding makes sense. The correlation was impacted by the variety of documents used. Based on the data, it is clear that the articles are the ones to which the correlation between citations and attention is strong. The most interesting citations were for the articles about intentions.Implications/Novel contribution: This research significantly contributes to the body of literature because it provides detailed information about citations and article publications.
