Abstract

Preeclampsia is a major pregnancy complication contributing to high maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly in coastal areas with limited access to health services. Low maternal self-efficacy plays a critical role in delayed prevention and early detection of preeclampsia. This study aimed to analyze the effect of antenatal education delivered through a local-language mobile application on pregnant women’s self-efficacy in preventing preeclampsia in coastal areas of Southeast Sulawesi. A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design with a control group was applied. A total of 150 second-trimester pregnant women at moderate risk of preeclampsia were assigned to an intervention group (n=75) and a control group (n=75). The intervention group received 8 weeks of antenatal education via a local-language mobile application featuring interactive learning modules, audio narration, and reminder notifications, while the control group received conventional education from village midwives. Self-efficacy was measured using the 12-item Bandura scale. Data were analyzed using t-tests, Mann–Whitney tests, and effect size calculations. The intervention group showed a significant increase in self-efficacy from 42.3±6.1 to 58.7±5.4 (Δ=+16.4; p<0.001), which was substantially higher than the control group (Δ=+5.4; p=0.012). The between-group difference was highly significant (p<0.001) with a large effect size (η²=0.42). Increased self-efficacy was accompanied by improved preventive behaviors and a reduced incidence of third-trimester preeclampsia. Local-language mobile application–based antenatal education is effective in improving pregnant women’s self-efficacy for preeclampsia prevention in coastal settings. This culturally adaptive digital intervention represents a promising promotive–preventive strategy for regions with limited health service access.

Abstract

Flavonoids are an important group of secondary metabolites found in medicinal plants and possess various biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. This study aims to identify and confirm the presence of flavonoid compounds in the ethanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata L. leaves using infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR) as a structural fingerprinting approach. Dried leaves were extracted by maceration using 90% ethanol, then the obtained extract was analyzed at a wavenumber range of 4000–400 cm⁻¹. FTIR results showed the presence of typical absorption of hydroxyl (–OH), carbonyl (C=O), aromatic double bonds (C=C), and ether (C–O–C) groups, which are the main characteristics of flavonoid structure. This spectral pattern is consistent with literature data and supporting phytochemical test results, thus confirming the role of FTIR as a qualitative confirmation tool and chemical fingerprint of flavonoid compounds in the ethanolic extract of C. odorata leaves. These findings strengthen the potential of this plant as a natural source of bioactive compounds for the development of standardized herbal medicines and further phytopharmaceutical research.

Abstract

Head trauma resulting from traffic accidents is an emergency condition that requires rapid imaging to exclude life-threatening intracranial injuries. This study aims to describe the procedure and findings of non-contrast head computed tomography (NCCT) in a post-traffic accident head trauma case at the Radiology Department of Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital, Palembang. A descriptive case study design was applied. Data were obtained from NCCT images and validated radiology reports of a 25-year-old male patient examined on May, 2025, complemented by structured interviews with radiographers regarding technical protocols and workflows. The examination was performed using 120 kV, 350 mAs, 5-mm slice thickness for axial acquisition with 1–2 mm multiplanar reconstruction, a field of view of approximately 250 mm, a 512 × 512 matrix, and brain (WL/WW ≈ 40/80 HU) and bone window (WL/WW ≈ 400/2000 HU) settings. NCCT findings demonstrated no intracranial hemorrhage, midline shift, or mass effect. The main pathological findings were nasal bone fracture, septal deviation, and hemosinus involving the bilateral ethmoid sinuses and the left maxillary sine. The applied protocol was consistent with emergency radiology practice and adhered to the ALARA principle through appropriate parameter optimization and multiplanar reconstruction. These findings highlights the role of NCCT US a reliable first-line modality for rapid exclusion of critical intracranial injury while accurately detecting facial bone trauma in traffic accident-related head injuries.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the secondary metabolite profiles of crude drug (simplicia) and refluxed ethanol extract of Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. leaves through qualitative phytochemical screening. Fresh fragrant pandan leaves were processed into dried simplicia, powdered, and extracted using the reflux method with 96% ethanol (1:10 w/v) at ±78°C for 3 hours. The extract was concentrated using a rotary evaporator and analyzed for alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, terpenoids, and steroids based on standard color reactions and precipitate formation. The drying process resulted in a weight loss of 37.58%, indicating effective moisture removal, while extraction yielded 9% thick extract. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids in both simplicia and extract, whereas phenolics, saponins, and steroids were not detected under the applied conditions. These findings indicate that 96% ethanol reflux extraction effectively isolates polar and semi-polar bioactive compounds without significant thermal degradation. The results provide a scientific basis for the development of pandan-based phytopharmaceuticals and natural cosmetic formulations.
