Abstract

This study explores the impact of digitalization on hadith scholarship, particularly the role of websites in the dissemination and study of hadith in the modern era. Digitalization has significantly improved access to hadith sources, enabling the global transmission of Islamic teachings. However, it also presents challenges related to data authenticity, textual variations, and shifts in scholarly authority within Islamic studies. Employing a literature-based qualitative approach, this research analyzes various digital platforms that support hadith scholarship, including Waqfeya, Dorar.net, CariHadis.com, and Hadis Digital Online All in One, which serve as repositories providing access to hadith texts and related references. The findings indicate that digitalization facilitates hadith retrieval, fosters academic research, and enhances the integration of technology into Islamic studies. However, concerns over data integrity, textual accuracy, and scholarly credibility remain significant. While digital platforms offer unprecedented access to hadith, the lack of standardized validation methods raises the risk of misinformation and misinterpretation. Therefore, this study highlights the necessity of establishing rigorous validation standards and adopting reliable verification mechanisms to maintain the credibility and scholarly integrity of digital hadith resources. Strengthening digital literacy and scholarly oversight is essential to ensure that digital platforms serve as accurate and authoritative sources for hadith studies. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on the intersection of technology and Islamic scholarship, emphasizing the importance of maintaining academic rigor in the digital transmission of hadith

Abstract

This study examines the views of Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (Buya Hamka) on the status of women in hadith, as presented in his book Buya Hamka Berbicara tentang Perempuan (Buya Hamka Talks About Women). This book was published during the formulation of the Indonesian Marriage Law of 1973, making it part of Buya Hamka’s efforts to defend and honor women in an Islamic framework. Based on this background, this study focuses on two main research questions: first, how does Buya Hamka interpret the status of women in the context of hadith as discussed in his book? Second, how does he understand women's virtues and roles in marriage from the perspective of hadith? This research employs content analysis with a qualitative approach, gathering data from books, classical hadith collections, and relevant literature. The primary source is Buya Hamka Berbicara tentang Perempuan, supplemented by hadith compilations, journal articles, and other supporting references. The findings indicate that Buya Hamka views Islam as granting women an esteemed and dignified position in various aspects of life, particularly in marriage. The Qur’an and hadith provide not only gender equity in many aspects but also special recognition of women’s roles, affirming their vital contributions to family and society. Therefore, Buya Hamka’s interpretation underscores that Islam not only upholds women’s dignity but also grants them fair and proportional rights in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This study explores the divergent interpretations among Muslim scholars regarding prophetic traditions (ḥadīths) associated with the legal obligation of qadhā’ (paying back the missed fasting) on behalf of deceased individuals. The disagreement emerges from the categorization of ritual worship (ʿibādah) into physical, financial, or combined acts, raising jurisprudential debates over whether such acts—especially fasting—can be fulfilled by legal proxy. Within Islamic legal discourse, some jurists argue that the guardian (walī) must perform the missed fasts of the deceased, while others opine that paying fidyah (compensatory feeding of the poor) is sufficient. These divergent views stem from differing hermeneutical readings of several ḥadīths, including those reported by ʿĀʾishah and Ibn ʿAbbās, which appear contradictory in literal interpretation. This research employs a qualitative methodology using a library-based (literature review) approach, analyzing hadith and fiqh texts across multiple legal schools (madhāhib). The interpretive framework of Yūsuf al-Qaradāwī is utilized to critically assess and reconcile these texts, incorporating key principles such as jamʿu al-aḥādīth (harmonization), tarjīḥ (preference of evidence), and asbāb al-wurūd (contextual background of narration). The study finds that al-Qaradāwī’s comprehensive approach to hadith interpretation allows for a more coherent understanding of scholarly disagreements and offers a rational foundation for legal rulings across schools. It concludes that methodological engagement with prophetic texts is essential in developing inclusive, adaptable, and well-reasoned Islamic legal judgments in the context of modern jurisprudential needs.

Abstract

The research study investigates how transgender people were treated in both the time of Prophet Muhammad and contemporary Pakistan which has led to major transformations in social responses and legal systems and religious doctrinal perspectives. Linking to research findings shows early Islamic society recognized and respected mukhannathun transgender people but modern Pakistan includes legal progress alongside continued social discrimination against transgender groups. The analysis of transgender rights reveals how religious beliefs interact with cultural heritage as well as modern lawmaking regarding transgender people's rights protection. Islamic principles of justice and compassion form the basis of inclusivity but social prejudices alongside historical changes have led to marginalization. Through the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018 Pakistan has achieved legal recognition but social acceptance and legal recognition exist in significant tension with one another. This study entails multiple constraints which affect its effectiveness. The study of the Prophetic era depends mostly on scarce textual evidence which receives varied interpretations through different Islamic scholarly positions. The contemporary issues which transgender individuals in Pakistan experience are changing and need further research for understanding how legal changes specifically affect their everyday life. The research adds value to present transgender rights scholarship through its analysis of Islamic perspectives at different historical periods. The study performs a comprehensive analysis of transgender rights interactions between Prophet Muhammad's time and present-day Pakistan through documented comparative examinations. Future scholarly attention should adapt towards examining how Pakistani transgender rights can become practical while exploring religious scholar involvement and government decision making in creating inclusive Pakistan. Research that examines transgender rights approaches inside Muslim-majority nations will give important insights regarding Islamic perspectives on transgender matters.

Abstract

The rise of Islamic radicalism in post-reform Indonesia poses a serious challenge to national integration and religious harmony. Doctrines and movements grounded in exclusivism and intolerance toward religious diversity often trigger societal fragmentation. In this context, KH. Hasyim Asy'ari—founder of Nahdlatul Ulama—formulated an ideological response rooted in his compilation of ḥadīths entitled Arba‘īna Ḥadīthan Tata‘allaqu Bi Mabādi’ Jam‘iyyah Nahdlatil Ulama’. This study aims to examine the values of unity expressed through three core ḥadīths thematically linked to the concept of social cohesion, namely ḥadīth no. 16, 22, and 39. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method, the research adopts Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, which incorporates macro-structure, schematic form, semantics, syntax, stylistics, rhetorical strategy, and social cognition. The findings reveal that while the isnād (chain of transmission) of the three ḥadīths varies—ranging from ḥasan li dhātihi, ṣaḥīḥ li dhātihi, to ḍa‘īf—their matn (textual content) is evaluated as ṣaḥīḥ based on compatibility with reason and foundational Islamic principles. The thematic values identified include empathy, solidarity, tolerance of difference, and the imperative to preserve communal harmony. This compilation of ḥadīths functions not merely as a religious text but also as an ideological manifesto responding to the socio-religious challenges of its time. In conclusion, Arba‘īna Ḥadīthan reflects a traditionalist yet progressive vision of Islam rooted in Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah, offering a normative framework for promoting moderation, pluralism, and national unity in contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

Understanding ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīths has remained a critical methodological discourse in both classical and contemporary Islamic studies. Two major hermeneutical approaches—textual and contextual—are central to this discourse. The textual approach emphasizes a literalist reading of the ḥadīth text in order to preserve the authenticity and sanctity of the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings. In contrast, the contextual approach considers the socio-historical and cultural background in which a ḥadīth was transmitted, thereby enabling its normative messages to remain relevant to contemporary realities. This article addresses the methodological question of how these two interpretative approaches can be integrated to respond to the dynamic challenges of modern Muslim life. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive method using a library research model. The primary sources include both classical ḥadīth compilations and contemporary scholarly literature. Selected ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīths that are often debated between textualist and contextualist interpretations are analyzed to demonstrate the theoretical implications of both approaches. Findings indicate that the textual and contextual approaches are not inherently contradictory but rather complementary. The textual method safeguards the transmissional integrity (riwāyah) of the ḥadīth, while the contextual approach ensures that its meanings (dirāyah) can be appropriately situated within evolving socio-cultural frameworks. The integration of both provides a more balanced and comprehensive understanding of Prophetic traditions. In conclusion, a synthesis between textual fidelity and contextual relevance is essential to interpret ḥadīths holistically. This integrative framework is proposed as a viable model for contemporary ḥadīth interpretation that is both normatively authentic and socially responsive.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of gold-based pawning (rahn) at Pegadaian Syariah Sampang through the lens of Prophetic hadith and the Fatwa of the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI) No. 25/DSN-MUI/III/2002 on Rahn. The central issue addressed is the extent to which the rahn contract, including gold valuation mechanisms and the resolution of non-performing financing, aligns with core Islamic legal and ethical principles. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method supported by a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), this research incorporates both textual analysis of canonical hadith and empirical field interviews. The findings demonstrate that rahn is legally valid and normatively grounded in multiple authentic narrations (ṣaḥīḥ) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ—particularly from Bukhari and Muslim—supported by classical scholars such as al-‘Aynī, al-Qārī, and al-Ṣan‘ānī. The procedural implementation at Pegadaian Syariah Sampang adheres to the essential components of the rahn contract, encompassing administrative protocols, digitalized gold appraisal based on karat weight, and disbursement through an integrated system. The determination of loan value (marhūn bih), administrative cost (mu’nah), and contractual execution complies with the principles of justice (ʿadl), transparency (wuḍūḥ), and the avoidance of ribā, reflecting the maqāṣid al-sunnah (higher objectives of the Prophetic Sunnah). Non-performing loans are addressed through structured mechanisms such as rescheduling, reconditioning, restructuring, persuasive negotiation, and, where necessary, collateral execution. The study concludes that the rahn practice at Pegadaian Syariah Sampang is in substantial conformity with Islamic legal ethics and contemporary fatwas, though greater efforts in consumer education, sharia compliance monitoring, and institutional governance are necessary to ensure long-term sustainability and maslahah (public benefit). This research contributes both to theoretical discourse in Islamic jurisprudence and practical policy-making in grassroots Islamic finance.

Abstract

Sincerity is the key to every job, whether it is physical or spiritual. This is in accordance with the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the narration of Bukhari number 1. In this hadith it is explained that every job depends on its intention, if in his heart it is intended sincerely solely because of Allah and His Messenger then it will be recorded as a good deed by Allah SWT. This study uses a qualitative method based on library research, books, journals and books from sources that are clearly related to the theme of Ikhlas. This study is based on a collection of hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This study aims to find out what hadiths discuss sincerity, types of sincerity and how urgent ikhlās is in everyday life. Then, the insincerity that occurs in society is largely influenced by the bad habit of showing off all actions in public (riyā'), the lack of public awareness of the importance of being sincere in everyday life. Finally, preventive efforts that can be done include optimizing community education regarding awareness of being sincere and also instilling knowledge about sincerity in early childhood in the community. The author still realizes that in this study there are still many shortcomings both in the writing and understanding of the author in writing this study. This study is expected to be a motivation for the next generation to develop better in conducting research related to problems that occur in the midst of Islamic society. Keywords: Hadith Perspective, Sincere, Thematic Hadith.
