Abstract

This study examines Dondy Tan's thoughts on the existence of science in Islam and the Bible. This study seeks to identify Dondy Tan's concepts, arguments, and approaches in understanding the existence and role of science in Islam and the Bible. The research method used is a qualitative approach in the form of media observation studies. The results of the study show that Dondy Tan's view of science in the perspective of the Qur'an can be seen as an integrative relationship between science and the Qur'an (Islam), whereas in the perspective of the Bible, according to Dondy Tan, it tends to show a conflicting relationship between science and religion. This study contributes to the importance of an interdisciplinary approach through contextual and historical readings in understanding the relationship between religion and science.

Abstract

The concept of nusyuz in classical fiqh perspectives is often interpreted as a form of wife's defiance against her husband. This interpretation not only reflects the dominant patriarchal view of the past, but also has a significant impact on the formation of family law norms in various modern Muslim societies today. The purpose of this research seeks to reinterpret the concept of nusyuz in the construction of modern society. This qualitative research in the form of a literature study uses a descriptive-analytical approach. The research data used scientific literature related to the reinterpretation of the concept of nusyuz. Hermeneutic theory is used as the basis for perspective. Data were obtained using documentation techniques. Data analysis uses data reduction, presentation, and verification. The results concluded that in a hermeneutic perspective, the condition of the increasing role of women in the public sphere in the construction of modern society has led to changes in family structure, so it is important to reinterpret the concept of nusyuz to be more relevant to the needs of the times and in line with the principles of universal justice promoted by Islamic law. This research contributes to the importance of a contextual understanding of the concept of nusyuz to not only be understood from the normative side, but also from a socio-historical perspective

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the theological and ethical visual dimensions of pleasure and suffering in the grave from the perspective of Prophetic Hadith. Employing a thematic analysis method, this research classifies and examines a set of hadiths related to three major themes: the depiction of the grave, forms of pleasure, and types of suffering experienced after death. The findings reveal that the grave is portrayed as a transitional space with spiritual consequences, including fragrance, tranquility, or torment, as reported in hadiths from Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, and others. The pleasures of the grave are directly associated with righteous deeds such as reciting the Qur’an, strong faith, and good actions that illuminate the grave. Conversely, suffering is triggered by reprehensible acts, even seemingly minor ones such as excessive weeping or negligence in performing good deeds. Theologically, these hadiths construct a comprehensive eschatological framework of the afterlife. Ethically, they function as moral guidance mechanisms, emphasizing individual accountability for worldly actions. Thus, a profound understanding of the grave based on hadith not only reinforces faith in the unseen but also serves as a powerful ethical motivator in the daily lives of Muslims.

Abstract

This article examines the epistemological critique advanced by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas against the concept of truth relativism inherent in Thomas Kuhn's theory of scientific paradigms. This study uses a library research method with a qualitative approach that is descriptive-analytical and comparative. According to Kuhn, scientific truth is relative to the paradigm adhered to by a scientific community, which encompasses a set of beliefs, values, and methods. As paradigms can shift through scientific revolutions, truth consequently becomes non-absolute and subject to change. In contrast, Syed Naquib al-Attas proposes an epistemology rooted in the Islamic tradition, wherein truth is considered absolute, objective, and derived from divine revelation. Al-Attas criticizes Kuhn's relativism because it disregards the metaphysical dimension of truth and potentially undermines the moral foundations and ultimate purpose of science. This study highlights the fundamental dichotomy between the secular-relativistic modern Western epistemology and an Islamic epistemology that upholds transcendent truth. As a solution, al-Attas proposes the project of the "Islamization of contemporary knowledge," a process of purifying knowledge by removing its secular, dualistic, and relativistic elements. Its ultimate aim is to restore science to its original function as a means to recognize the ultimate Truth (al-Haqq) and to serve God. Thus, the Islamization of knowledge is not merely a critique but a constructive proposal to the edifice of modern epistemology, which is perceived to have lost its spiritual and ethical compass.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Islamic family law, Sharia economic law, and customary law in marriage and inheritance practices in Central Kalimantan. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with literature studies and normative-sociological studies. The research data sources consist of legislation, the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), Islamic economic law literature, and Dayak and Malay customary law documents. Data analysis is interpretative. The results of the study show that the three legal systems interact dynamically. In marriage, Islamic law emphasizes the pillars and requirements of sharia. Meanwhile, Dayak customs add rituals and marriage expenses. This integration becomes both religious and social legitimacy. In inheritance, Islamic law rigidly regulates distribution according to the Qur'an. Meanwhile, customary law emphasizes deliberation and equality. In this context, Sharia economic law provides room for grants or wills. This study emphasizes that the practice of Islamic civil law in Indonesia can be dynamic and contextual even in the midst of existing social, cultural, and state norms.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze Musdah Mulia's humanist approach through a contextual and interdisciplinary interpretation of Islamic texts, integrating feminist, pedagogical, and Islamic reformist perspectives. The research employs a qualitative method with a textual-contextual approach, using primary data from Musdah Mulia's writings and supported by Abdurrahman Wahid’s theory of Islamic humanism. Analysis focuses on five basic rights within the framework of maqashid al-syari’ah. The findings show that Musdah Mulia emphasizes contextualish that prioritizes human dignity, social justice, and gender equality. Her thought challenges patriarchal religious interpretations and promotes an inclusive, progressive Islamic discourse. Theoretically, this study strengthens the paradigm of progressive Islam that places human values as central to religious understanding.
