Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the crimes perpetrated by young offenders in the interior districts of Sindh, including Shikarpur, Sukkur, Dadu, and Ghotki, as well as to investigate the underlying causes of criminal behavior. This qualitative study was undertaken by collecting FIRs from four districts using random sampling. The sample consists of 485 FIRs of convicted young male offenders from 2019 to 2020. The study found that youth are involved in various crimes such as murder, rape, larceny, assault, drug/alcohol consumption, and illegal weapon possession. In addition, the study's findings identified the factors that inspire young offenders to commit crimes, including poverty, land conflicts, tribal feuds, provocation, retaliation, sexual passion, and thrill. Consequently, illegal activities, as opposed to more constructive ones, are gaining popularity among the younger generation; therefore, the study suggests establishing a parental care and control program to improve educational and training facilities, increase employment opportunities, decrease the availability of dangerous weapons and drugs and alternative methods of crime prevention should be implemented.

Abstract

This empirical study explains the correlation between Authentic Leadership (AL) and Transformative Learning (TL). In the recent history of corporations and the business world, corporate scandals have erupted, which have questioned the authenticity of the leaders. This empirical study undertaken by the researcher explores the construct of AL and its impact on the TL of followers. The Moral Values (MV) of the followers act as a mediator in this relationship, and the study finds that AL directly impacts TL. The study has its limitations as it was conducted in higher education institutes employees. It is recommended that this study be undertaken with more variables, mediators, and moderators to understand this extraordinary impact of AL on TL and enhance the two fields. This empirical study explains the correlation between AL and TL. Taken all together, based on empirical evidence, this research identifies that AL qualities perform a significant role in increasing TL. In addition, those employees have high MV their TL is high as compared to others. The study explores relational support through two theories, social learning theory, and social cognitive theory, that provide bases to generate arguments.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the socio-demographical profile of engineering students in the context of their motivation during online classes. Engineering students (N=1616) of both genders (males N=1352 & females N=264) enrolled in 9 public sector universities of Pakistan were included in this study. The age range of the students was between 17 to 26 years. The Academic Motivation Scale (Vallerand et al., 1992) and an extensive self-structured demographical profile were used as a tool for data collection. The Academic motivation scale measured seven sub-categories of intrinsic, extrinsic, and amotivation, while the demographical sheet collected different dimensions of the personal, educational, social, and residential information. The study gathered an enormous collection of information about significant demographics of engineering students studying through online classes. According to the perspective of gender, there was no significant difference found in the motivation level of students during online classes. Access to the internet was the most significant demographic variable, positively correlated with the sub-categories of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation during an online class. This study added a unique finding in the literature that students' motivation during online classes could be increased when they have better access to internet facilities.

Abstract

The current qualitative research focuses on substance abuse and addiction among young people as a primary area of investigation. This study aimed to shed light on the substance that young people in Hyderabad, Sindh, take the most frequently and the most critical factors contributing to drug addiction. The research was carried out by proceeding to a mental hospital drug rehabilitation ward in Hyderabad, Sindh, and conducting face-to-face interviews with a total of 36 participants, ranging in age from 16 to 22, including both males and females. The participants were selected using a technique known as purposeful sampling. The study's findings indicated that alcohol, heroin, and ice drugs are the three substances used by young people with the most significant prevalence. In addition, researchers found that intra-personal factors, such as problems with mental health and entertainment, and extra-personal factors, such as peer pressure and the influence of the neighborhood, as well as the impact of the media, are the primary contributors to substance abuse among young people. According to the findings of the study, one preventative measure that may be taken to lower rates of drug addiction among young people is for parents, schools, governments, and other social groups to work together to educate young people about the negative consequences of drug consumption.

Abstract

This paper intends to investigate the meaning-making process in Sylvia Plath's poetry by employing Wolfgang's theory of Aesthetic Reader Response. Since female writing is characterized by a strong emotional appeal, especially for a female reader, the research is an attempt to explore the meaning-making process in Plath's poetry that how and why it (female writing) is appealing to the female reader in particular, and to the male reader in general. The analysis is anchored within Wolfgang Iser's theory of Aesthetic Reader Response. His theory postulates that the importance of literary work does not entirely lie in the meaning that the text beholds within it; instead, it depends on the interaction of the text with the reader that is helpful in the establishment of a new meaning. The present paper attempts to reveal this ideal relationship between a female poet and a female reader in the meaning-making process. The research uses a descriptive cum analytical method. Since the study intends to explore and investigate the aesthetic appeal and response that the profoundly emotional poetry of Sylvia evokes in the reader, the linguistic and stylistic choices will remain the focus. So, the research, at times, falls into the category of stylistic analysis. This article demonstrates how a female writer/poet offers a crucial understanding of the relationship between 'ecriture feminine' and the emergence of meaning. The research will provide future researchers with an opportunity to explore the meaning-making process in fictional work by female authors from the standpoint of female readers.

Abstract

Using the theoretical framework of International Portfolio Diversification (IPD), the study explores the long-run relationship between the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the world's six leading stock exchanges of Canada, China, France, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States. These markets are represented by the indices such as KSE-100 index (Pakistan), TSX (Canada), SSE Composite (China), CAC-40 Index (France), Nikkie-225 (Japan), FTSE-100 index (UK) and DJIA (US). An extended sample period of 27 years, has been studied ranging from 1991 to 2018, using daily, weekly, and monthly frequencies. This paper investigates the existence of cointegration among the markets by employing Johansen and Juselius bi-variate and multivariate co-integration techniques. The Augmented Dicky Fuller (ADF) and Phillip and Perron (P-P) test indicate that all the series are non stationary at level, whereas they are stationary at the first difference form. In addition, the results of the bi-variate co-integration test show that Pakistani market is weakly linked with the rest of the six markets. In addition, the findings of the multivariate co-integration test confirm two co-integrating equations—France and the UK stock exchanges are integrated on the daily data, while China and Canada stock exchanges are integrated on monthly data. An essential implication deduced from this result is that these markets are loosely connected with each other over the period investigated. Hence, international investors seeking to reduce risk can diversify their portfolio risk by including these markets in their pool of investment.

Abstract

The current study aimed to focus on the quarter-life crisis mainly the first phase that required a set of commitments, so it included young adults of Pakistan from 25-35 of age who have at least graduated, had a career, and had a romantic relationship. It was hypothesized that (1) there will be a significant relationship between Consideration of Future Consequences (CFC) and Coping Self-Efficacy (CSE) during the first phase of the quarter-life crisis, and (2) the CFC will impact the relationship between social support and CSE as a moderator variable during the first phase of quarter-life Crisis. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 185 (M = 1.49, SD = 0.501) young adults, including males (51 %) and females (49%). They filled out an online survey that comprised of Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES), and CFC-14. For the first hypothesis, Pearson Product Correlation was administered, showing a significant moderate positive correlation (p value < 0.01) between CFC and CSF. Moreover, Regression analysis represented (R²=.337, p-value <0.01) that CFC moderates the relationship between social support and CSE. This study will help psychologists, social workers, and educationists who work with young adults and want to enhance their CSE, as it is vital to deal with challenging situations.
