Abstract

The main objective of the study was to develop the interest and conceptual knowledge about science in students. For this purpose, the ‘Low-Cost Material’ concept was taught to the students using different instructional aids. The study was quantitative in nature. Experimental research design was used to check the effectiveness of low-cost material to teach science at the primary level, which were measured through pre and post-test. An action research was conducted in a public sector high school in Rawalpindi. Students of 4th grade were selected to conduct the study. Intervention was carried for one whole week. Pre-test and post-test were taken to collect data, and the collected data was analyzed using mean and t-test. The study found a significant difference between teaching of science through use of “low-cost material” and without using it. The students, when taught science by using “low-cost material, “performed significantly high on the post-test. It was concluded that using low-cost material to teach science positively affected students’ learning. The study will act as a model and guideline for science teachers at primary level to make their teaching more effective by using “low-cost material” as AV aids during science lessons. This will contribute to better science teaching in schools with low or no resources for science teaching.

Abstract

Street child is the challenging social phenomenon confronted by many nations across the globe. The phenomenon of child violence specifically among street children who are working like child scavengers exists in almost all big cities of Pakistan. The under-age children sent to work often face physical, emotional, and sexual violence as the working environment is unsupportive of child rights. This study is an explorative study to unfold the awareness level among study respondents about the phenomena of violence against children and various forms of physical violence they face at work. This explorative study was conducted in the rural Islamabad. By using the nonprobability sampling procedure, purposive sampling technique was opted for the current research. The sample size was 110 from which 91 male respondents aging from 12 years to under 18 were interviewed. The analysis was done in the form of percentages and frequency distribution cross tabs and chi square test was run by using SPSS. Findings of this explorative study reveals that these child scavengers are in more miserable conditions than any other group of children in the country. They become victims of physical violence on streets from their peer group, at their workplace from community people and also from their family members at homes with a very frequent intensity. Current study suggests serious interventions for child protection from violence as well as from hazardous work environment from government and other stakeholders i.e., local communities, NGOs, families so can provide a safe and healthy environment to our children which in return ensures sustainability of the productive society.

Abstract

The goal of this research project is to investigate the impact that regulatory focus, specifically promotion focus and prevention focus plays in bridging the gap between career commitment, career management, and career satisfaction among permanent workers working in the insurance industry in Pakistan. A survey approach was used to gather data from 380 workers working in the insurance business, and random sampling was used to choose those employees. In order to evaluate the data, SPSS and the PLS-SEM approach were used. The findings of this research reveal that career satisfaction is positively related to career commitment and career management, as well as the influence of regulatory focus on these connections. Regulatory focus often refers to an individual's capacity to foresee and satisfy goals and eligibility criteria that have a major impact on career commitment and career management, that is advantageous and important for insurance industry personnel to achieve career satisfaction. In earlier research, the influence of regulatory focus on career commitment and career management connection with career satisfaction has been examined separately, but never in the context of the insurance industry in Pakistan.

Abstract

This article employs 25 momentum techniques to analyze the momentum impacts using a sample of 466 non-financial enterprises from the Pakistan Stock Exchange for the years 2007 to 2017. CAPM and the Carthart four-factor model were also used to examine risk factors in this article. The Carthart four factor model results demonstrate a strong relationship between risk and returns due to systematic risk, and the positive and statistically highly significant coefficient of size factor (SMB) suggests that small minus big stocks are responsible for the returns of a portfolio. In contrast, the negative and very significant coefficient of factors (HML) and momentum factors (MOM) imply that the momentum and HML factor perfectly negatively explains the dependent variable and that the momentum profits are almost nonexistent. Furthermore, it is concluded that Carhart models are able to define variation in stock return for above given factors and are appropriate for Pakistan stock exchange. The results of the monthly 25 short-term momentum strategies and the 16 long-term strategies show that there is no momentum in Pakistani stock. Furthermore, this article discovered that only one-third of strategies and six out of nine create anomalous returns. These returns are caused, respectively, by systematic risk and manager performance. This analysis came to the conclusion that there are no momentum effects present in the Pakistan stock exchange, according to all momentum portfolios. According to this report, investors shouldn't use momentum tactics to make investments in Pakistan's capital market. According to this article, the sample size should be enlarged, and daily stock, bond, and commodity data should be used to review the momentum effects. Furthermore, contrarian momentums as well as early and late stage momentum strategies should apply in order to see the existence and robustness of momentum.

Abstract

Gender norms and identities play a significant role in either supporting or demotivating the leadership development of individuals in their careers. Even in this era of globalization and development, the contemporary world is experiencing communities and societies where gender stereotypes are deep-rooted. In one way or another, this hinders women from equally participating with their male counterparts. Such role expectations and profiling ultimately compel women to divert their focus from leadership development toward domestic affairs. In addition, women are considered perfect for house chores rather than leadership careers. This perception also affects women very negatively in developing their careers as leaders. This study considers the barriers women face during their careers while being in a leading position in their organizations. A narrative inquiry is conducted from the female school principals at the secondary level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Gender discrimination, lack of proper mentorship, and old boys’ network are the main barriers women principals face in working in a leading position in their schools. The study suggests that strong academic credentials, professional development, restructuring the organizational practices, and providing more opportunities to women can decrease gender bias.

Abstract

The current study set out to find out how patients' views of social support and quality of life are impacted by stigma. Additionally, the quality of life of patients and gender variations in HIV stigma, social support, and other factors were compared. It was expected that male patients would do better than female patients on tests measuring stigma, perceived social support, and quality of life. A total of 269 HIV/AIDS patients, including those who were 18 years of age or older and either male (n=170) or female (n=99), made up the sample for the current study. Purposeful sampling was used to collect the sample from the Provincial AIDS Control Program (PACP) facility at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar. The WHO Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL, BREF), HIV Stigma Scale (HISS), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were administered separately. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test. The results showed a significant difference in the WHO quality of life score between HIV patients in men and women. However, there were no statistically significant differences between male and female HIV patients on the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the HIV stigma scale factors. In light of the research findings, further discoveries and potential long-term implications were examined at the conclusion.
