Abstract

The fashion industry faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices due to the growing volume of textile waste generated by fast fashion consumption. This study explores the application of tapestry materials as an innovative design element in men's denim jackets through an upcycling approach. The research aims to examine the aesthetic, functional, and sustainable potential of combining reclaimed denim with tapestry textiles in contemporary ready-to-wear menswear. A practice-based design research method was employed, including material exploration, concept development, design experimentation, and prototype creation. Tapestry materials were selected for their rich textures and distinctive patterns, while patchwork construction, fabric manipulation, and decorative stitching techniques were applied to integrate the materials into denim jacket designs. The results demonstrate that tapestry materials significantly enhance the visual appeal of denim jackets by creating unique focal points, increasing product value, and strengthening product individuality. Furthermore, the combination of recycled denim and tapestry textiles supports circular fashion principles by extending material life cycles and reducing textile waste. This study concludes that the integration of tapestry materials into denim jackets offers an innovative and sustainable design strategy that successfully combines environmental responsibility, functionality, and contemporary aesthetics in menswear.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the design quality of the Whispering Butterfly Robe as a bridal preparation product. The robe was designed by adapting the characteristics of butterflies as the main source of inspiration, expressed through the application of organza floral appliqués and three-dimensional (3D) butterfly embellishments to create a feminine and elegant visual appearance. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method with an evaluative approach. The design quality assessment was conducted through expert judgment involving five fashion experts, including professors, educators, alumni, and fashion designers. The research instrument consisted of a validation sheet covering six evaluation aspects: design, sizing, sewing techniques, aesthetics, garment performance, and product uniqueness. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages. The results indicate that the Whispering Butterfly Robe achieved an average suitability score of 91.93%, categorized as “highly suitable.” The aesthetic aspect received the highest score (99.33%), followed by sizing (96.67%), garment performance (96.00%), and both design and sewing techniques (90.00%). Product uniqueness obtained a score of 79.33% and was categorized as “acceptable.” Overall, the findings demonstrate that the robe possesses high design quality and successfully integrates aesthetic value, functionality, comfort, and craftsmanship, making it suitable as a bridal preparation product.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially ChatGPT, has brought changes in the learning process in universities and encouraged students to utilize technology to support academic activities. This condition makes it important to find out how students perceive the use of ChatGPT in lectures. This study aims to analyze students' perception of the use of ChatGPT from the aspects of utilization, digital literacy, and academic ethics. This study uses a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. Data was collected through an online questionnaire using Google Form to students of the Educational Technology Study Program, Faculty of Education and Psychology, Semarang State University, class of 2022–2025 who were selected using random sampling techniques. The research instrument was in the form of a closed questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, while the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics through the calculation of mean and percentage. The results of the study show that students have a very positive perception of the use of ChatGPT in lecture activities, which is reflected in the aspects of utilization, digital literacy, and academic ethics. These findings show that ChatGPT is seen as a technology that is able to support the learning process if used wisely, accompanied by digital literacy skills, and still paying attention to academic ethics. This research contributes to enriching the study of the use of AI in higher education and can be a reference for the development of learning that integrates AI effectively and responsibly.
