Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study aims to explain the formation process of khidmah character at Pondok Pesantren Langitan Widang Tuban, a traditional Islamic boarding school that consistently maintains devotional values in its educational system. Design/methodology/approach: This research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to understand the lived experiences of santri (students) and teachers in developing khidmah character. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited to one pesantren context. However, it provides valuable insights for character education development in Islamic educational institutions and offers an alternative model for contemporary education systems facing moral crisis. Findings: The results reveal three main stages in khidmah character formation: knowledge transfer through teacher exemplification, habituation of khidmah values in daily life, and embodiment of khidmah character in real acts of service to the pesantren and community. The process demonstrates that character education involves not only teaching values but also consistent practice. Originality/value: This research contributes to character education literature by documenting a proven traditional Islamic educational approach that integrates spiritual, moral, and social dimensions in character formation, which can serve as a model for other educational institutions.

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of supervisory management in improving the quality of education at Pondok Pesantren Darul Ulum Karangpandan Rejoso Pasuruan, exploring how systematic supervision contributes to educational excellence in Islamic boarding schools. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative approach with case study design was employed, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Research subjects included pesantren administrators, teachers, and students, with data analyzed through thematic analysis. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to a three-year period (2021-2023) and focuses specifically on human resource management and educational processes rather than financial or physical resource aspects. Findings: Results indicate that systematic and continuous supervisory management significantly impacts educational quality improvement. Intensive and structured supervision enhances learning quality, student discipline, and teacher professionalism through integrated planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up mechanisms. Originality/value: This research contributes an effective supervisory management model for pesantren education by examining the unique hybrid approach combining traditional Islamic boarding school methods with modern management elements, applicable to similar institutions nationwide.

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This research aims to develop an information technology-based educational management model to improve education quality in the digital era. Digital transformation in education demands a paradigm shift in management that integrates information technology across all aspects of educational institution governance. Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a qualitative approach with case study methods in several educational institutions that have implemented IT-based management systems. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Research limitations/implications: This research provides theoretical contributions in developing modern educational management concepts and practical implications for educational institutions in designing sustainable digital transformation strategies. Findings: The results show that an effective IT-based educational management model includes five main components: technology infrastructure, integrated management information systems, digital competency development, IT policies and governance, and continuous evaluation. Implementation of this model has proven to increase administrative efficiency, learning effectiveness, information accessibility, and data-driven decision making. Originality/value: This study fills the gap by providing an integrative framework that explains how information technology can enhance management quality and ultimately education quality through a holistic approach considering technical, organizational, and human aspects simultaneously.

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study aims to map the dynamics of pesantren kiai involvement in Islamic education politics in Bangkalan Regency, examining the patterns of engagement and factors influencing their participation in educational policy formulation. Design/methodology/approach: Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies involving kiai, public officials, and community leaders in Bangkalan Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to Bangkalan Regency and may not be generalizable to other regions. The findings suggest the need for formalized synergy mechanisms between pesantren and local government in education policy-making. Findings: The relationship between kiai and public officials is mutualistic with patronage characteristics. Kiai involvement is classified into three patterns: active, moderate, and traditional, with dominant influence in socio-cultural domains rather than formal political structures. Factors such as pesantren characteristics, personal charisma of kiai, and local Islamic education issues significantly affect involvement levels. Originality/value: This research contributes to understanding the strategic role of kiai in Islamic education policy formulation in regional contexts, particularly in areas with strong pesantren traditions, and proposes collaborative frameworks for inclusive education policy development.

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study investigates the effect of implementing Green Curriculum-based Project Based Learning (PjBL) on the development of metacognitive skills among students at PIQ Singosari Malang Islamic Boarding School, while simultaneously fostering environmental awareness through practical ecological projects. Design/methodology/approach: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group model, involving 50 students divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using the validated Metacognitive Awareness Inventory and analyzed through independent samples t-test to compare mean differences in metacognitive skills between groups receiving Green Curriculum-integrated PjBL and conventional instruction. Research limitations/implications: While limited by sample size and intervention duration, the findings strongly suggest that integrating Green Curriculum with PjBL effectively enhances metacognitive skills. This implies that educators should consider incorporating environmental projects into science education to simultaneously develop cognitive abilities and ecological awareness. Findings: The results demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the experimental group across all metacognitive dimensions, with planning showing a mean difference of 9.08 (p=0.012), monitoring 13.72 (p=0.001), and evaluation 24.52 (p=0.000). The 95% confidence intervals confirmed the reliability of these differences, indicating substantial enhancement in students' abilities to plan, monitor, and evaluate their learning processes. Originality/value: This study presents a novel integration of Green Curriculum with PjBL specifically designed for Islamic educational contexts, offering empirical evidence of how environmental projects enhance metacognitive abilities while aligning with Islamic environmental values, thus providing a replicable model for sustainable education development
