Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify grammatical errors, analyse the factors of grammatical errors and explain the preventive measure for writing assignments among non-field of Malay Language students at Sultan Idris University of Education. This study employed a qualitative research which utilizes five distinct assignment types from non-language disciplines as primary data sources and engages five grammar experts, comprising educators or instructors, as key informants. The findings reveal a non-field Malay Language students to commit errors in spelling, sentence structure, and word formation. Furthermore, the identified factors encompass both internal and external influences. Internally, students exhibit a limited grasp of grammar and encounter inadequacies in grammar instruction at the university level, while externally, factors such as social media, linguistic contamination, translation applications, and informal conversations contribute to these errors. In terms of recommendations of preventive measure, three specific steps are delineated: students must cultivate awareness and persistently strive for grammatical proficiency, intensify practice efforts, and establish supplementary classes dedicated to grammar refinement. This study carries substantial implications for educators and non-field Malay Language students alike, serving as a valuable resource for averting grammatical errors and enabling educators to formulate more efficacious teaching methodologies for addressing such issues.

Abstract

This review paper examines the adoption and implementation of the Bologna Process across higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Employing a secondary data review approach, the study synthesizes findings from institutional reports, policy documents, and empirical research conducted at universities in Sulaimani, Erbil, Duhok, Zakho, Halabja, Soran, Garmian, and Raparin. The analysis reveals several opportunities arising from the Bologna Process, including curriculum reform towards student-centered learning, the adoption of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), improved quality assurance mechanisms, and enhanced potential for international academic collaboration. Despite these advancements, the study identifies significant challenges such as inconsistent policy coordination, inadequate digital infrastructure, faculty resistance to pedagogical change, and limited institutional capacity in quality assurance. These issues hinder the full integration of Bologna principles across the region. Based on the findings, the paper proposes key recommendations: standardizing policy frameworks, investing in digital and administrative infrastructure, expanding faculty training programs, and strengthening institutional governance. These strategies aim to promote a more coherent and sustainable implementation of the Bologna Process, contributing to the ongoing modernization of higher education in the Kurdistan Region.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between teacher competence and student satisfaction in religious secondary schools. The primary aim is to determine how various dimensions of teacher competence influence students’ overall satisfaction with the learning experience. A quantitative research design was employed, using structured questionnaires administered to a sample of Form 4 and Form 5 students in selected religious secondary schools in Pahang, Malaysia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and regression analyses. The results revealed that teacher competence particularly in professionalism and content mastery has a strong and statistically significant positive correlation with student satisfaction. Linear regression analysis showed that teacher competence accounts for over 50% of the variation in student satisfaction levels. While the general level of teacher competence was rated as high, the integration of technology in teaching was found to be only moderate. This highlights a need for improved digital literacy among teachers. The study concludes by recommending continuous professional development focused on strengthening teachers’ professionalism, enhancing subject matter expertise, and advancing the integration of educational technology. Support from school leadership and educational policymakers is essential to sustain teacher effectiveness and address the evolving needs of 21st-century education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse adolescent developmental psychology as portrayed in a novel. Ibu Yang Kusayang (IYK) is a novel that won the Children’s Novel Writing Competition organized by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in 1978 and was published in conjunction with the International Year of the Child in 1979. This is significant due to confusion surrounding the novel’s identity. Although IYK is presented as a children’s novel, the study finds that it tends to depict its protagonist as an early teenager. The main question of this study is to identify the characteristics of adolescence portrayed in the novel. Therefore, content analysis and library research methods were used to determine the protagonist’s identity. This study sets two objectives. First, to analyse the conflicts experienced by the protagonist. Second, to identify the psychological aspects influencing adolescent development based on Erik Erikson’s theory. Erikson outlines human development in eight stages, each involving specific conflicts. This study focuses on the fifth stage “Identity vs. Role Confusion” which applies to adolescents aged 12 to 18. Thus, analysing IYK is appropriate, as although it won a children’s novel competition, the protagonist fits within the adolescent stage. The study finds that both objectives were successfully achieved and concludes that the protagonist experiences emotional conflict and identity confusion. It is hoped that this research will assist future scholars in examining the identity elements in literary works.

Abstract

Public speaking is a crucial communication skill in various areas of life, including social, academic, and professional settings. This is especially true for international students, who are required to speak English. However, many students experience public speaking anxiety. Therefore, this study aims to describe the level of anxiety in public speaking among students of Guidance and Counseling (BK) International Class at Padang State University. The study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with total sampling of 59 students from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts. Data were collected through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire measuring four aspects: mood, cognitive, somatic, and motor. The results of the study indicate that the majority of students exhibit high levels of public speaking anxiety, with mood and cognitive aspects dominating. Meanwhile, somatic and motor aspects are relatively low. These findings underscore the need for counseling interventions to help students manage emotional stress and negative thoughts, thereby enabling their public speaking skills to develop optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between three dimensions of social environmental influence parental influence, teacher influence, and peer influence and the level of student satisfaction at a State Religious Secondary School in Malaysia. A total of 100 Form Four and Form Five students were selected using stratified random sampling to ensure balanced representation. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 27, employing descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression analyses. The results revealed significant positive relationships between all three dimensions of social influence and student satisfaction. Among them, teacher influence showed the strongest correlation, followed by parental and peer influences. Regression analysis indicated that these dimensions collectively explained 56% of the variance in student satisfaction, with teacher influence being the most influential predictor. The findings underscore the pivotal role of teachers as facilitators who enhance students’ satisfaction and motivation. Additionally, parental support contributes significantly to students’ positive learning experiences, while peer influence mainly affects social and emotional well-being. The study recommends that school administrators and stakeholders strengthen positive social interactions and supportive environments to promote greater student satisfaction and overall well-being.

Abstract

Language plays a vital role in understanding mathematical concepts, especially where English is not the learners’ first language. Despite the common use of Tag-lish in classrooms, research on its effectiveness in secondary mathematics under the new normal is limited. This study examined the effect of Tag-lish code switching on students’ mathematics achievement, attitude toward mathematics, and problem-solving efficacy using a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The control group (n = 15) received pure English instruction, while the experimental group (n = 15) received Tag-lish instruction. Paired samples t-test and ANCOVA were used to analyze data. Both groups improved from pretest to posttest, but ANCOVA showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in mathematics achievement and problem-solving efficacy. While both methods had similar effects on attitude toward mathematics, Tag-lish was more effective overall. The study recommends using Tag-lish code switching in teaching high school mathematics.

Abstract

The current research aimed to assess the validity of the decision-making process in the substance use instrument among secondary school students in Malaysia. This research used a survey research design. The current research participants were 211 secondary school students in Johor, Selangor, and Kedah, Malaysia. Two procedures were used to analyse the data: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). EFA with comprehensive techniques that compromise parallel analysis and minimum average partial (MAP) yielded a 5-factor solution: avoidant decision making, rational decision making, spontaneous decision making, dependent decision making, and intuitive decision making. Furthermore, the factors attain a minimum standard of Communalities (.30 to 1.0) and factor loading (>.50). The structure of the instrument was then confirmed through Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with adequate fit indices such as RMSEA (<06 to .08), CFI, TLI (.80), and CMIN (<5). The instrument validation and reliability were tested through AVE, CR, and Cronbach's alpha.

Abstract

Spiritual well-being serves not only as a foundation for inner peace but also plays a crucial role in enhancing teacher performance. This quantitative study aims to empirically examine the predictive role of spiritual well-being on the performance of Muslim teachers in Indonesia using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Data were collected from 606 Muslim teachers, and psychometric analysis confirmed the validity and reliability of the instruments. The SEM results demonstrated that spiritual well-being significantly predicts teacher performance (p-value = 0.030 < α 0.050), with the measurement model meeting all fit criteria. These findings enrich the field of educational psychology by highlighting the interconnection between spiritual and professional dimensions. Practically, the study suggests that education policies and teacher training programs should incorporate spiritual well-being as part of a holistic approach to professional development. Furthermore, the integration of spiritual dimensions may foster higher motivation, emotional resilience, and ethical commitment among teachers, which are vital for sustaining educational quality. For broader visibility, this research underscores the importance of addressing spiritual aspects in educational settings, particularly within Indonesia’s cultural and religious context, thereby contributing to a more balanced and humanistic model of teacher performance.

Abstract

This article analyzes the development of Iban language education within the framework of the digital age, emphasizing the interaction among technology, pedagogy, and cultural factors. The Iban language faces challenges associated with modernization, digital readiness, and the preservation of cultural heritage in Malaysia. This study aims to conceptualize the improvement of Iban language instruction via digital innovation, while maintaining its cultural integrity. A qualitative conceptual literature review synthesized studies from 2010 to 2025, utilizing databases such as Scopus, ERIC, and MyJurnal. The text discusses Iban language education, indigenous pedagogy, digital transformation, and culturally sustaining teaching methodologies. The literature underwent thematic synthesis to identify recurring themes related to technological adaptation, pedagogical innovation, and cultural contextualization. The analysis employed established frameworks including Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), Diffusion of Innovations Theory, and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy. The findings indicate that effective Iban language education in the digital era requires a balanced integration of three dimensions, leading to the creation of the Model for Digital Integration of Iban Language (MIDBI). This study offers a conceptual framework for future empirical research and outlines implications for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers focused on improving digital inclusion and cultural continuity in indigenous language education.
