Abstract

This study aims to understand the development of research on technology in the context of adult learning over the last ten years. This study used bibliometric analysis to identify research trends, relationships between concepts, and author collaborations. The data is obtained from the Google Scholar database with relevant keywords, and the number of publications is limited to 1,000 journals. The results show fluctuations in the growth of publications about technology in the context of adult learning from 2014 to 2023. Out of 1,000 publications indexed by Google Scholar, only 628 have information on year and publisher, while 308 do not. The peak of publication growth occurred in 2021, with 105 publications (16.7%), while the lowest number of publications was recorded in 2017, with 50 documents (8%). Research shows that the use of technology in adult learning continues to evolve. Nonetheless, there is still a paucity of research on technology and knowledge of andragogical content in adult learning. This provides an opportunity for other researchers to continue to develop this research trend.

Abstract

Language and speech are tools for communication. Language and communication problems are particularly evident in students with hearing and speech problems. This research aims to find out the hearing and speech problems of hearing-impaired students from the aspects of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Three theories are closely related to communication, language, and speech. First are behaviorism theory, nativism theory, and interactionalism theory. This study uses a design-shape research case that uses a qualitative approach to explain and describe language and speech errors among students with more profound hearing problems. Results from the analysis of the findings acquired, that the research almost answered the questions by using three types of instruments: interview anecdotal records, and even checklists. Through all three methods, we can conclude that the student's hearing becomes increasingly bad, and it becomes more and more difficult for him to speak well. Students who have level hearing which is light and simple can speak if given intervention regularly while students with severe or relatively severe hearing need to get treatment immediately. Collaboration with parents also plays an important role in helping the student with hearing problems in dealing with disability. Continuous education at home and at school have positive impacts on the students.

Abstract

This study was carried out to see the effectiveness before and after the use of the cooperative model approach on the achievement of students in writing summary essays in Malay. In addition, this study was also carried out to analyse the differences that existed before and after the use of the cooperative model on the achievement of students in the writing of summary essays in Malay. A total of 30 respondents consisting of students from a 4th-grade class were involved in implementing this study as a sampling purpose. This study uses cognitive development theory as a guide in cultivating 21st-century learning practices (PAK-21) in the classroom. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method in the form of a test. 30 sets of pre and post-test questions were given to all respondents involved as an instrument in this study. The data for the pre-and post-test instruments were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. The results of the study found that there is a significant relationship between students' achievement in the writing of summary essays in Malay before and after the use of the cooperative model approach. The results of the study also show that there is a positive development in the performance of students in writing summary essays in Malay after the cooperative model approach is applied (mean=88.40). This indirectly proves that the use of the collaborative model approach is relevant and able to improve the performance of students in the teaching of Malay summary essays. This study is expected to be a reference source for other researchers and Malay language teachers to make teaching activities more creative and effective.

Abstract

One of the evaluation models generally used in prevention programs is the Kirkpatrick evaluation. The model is used to escort the evaluation program closer to its effectiveness. Kirkpatrick's framework consists of four levels: reaction, learning, behaviour, and result. The purpose of the current research was to assess the validity of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument for drug prevention programs in primary school students in Malaysia. This study used a survey research design by involving 692 primary school students in Malaysia. Three procedures were used to analyse the data in this research, namely Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Cronbach Alpha. EFA revealed the structure of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model which the reaction level has 12 items, the learning level has 8 items, the behaviour level has 6 items, and the result level has 6 items. At the same time, the CFA results showed that the model fit indices established a four-factor structure. Finally, the evaluation model has Cronbach's alpha value of .952, which exceeds the standard (.70 or above). It can be concluded that the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument was acceptable and reliable to assess the level of drug prevention programs among primary school students in Malaysia.

Abstract

Andragogy is a set of ideas about how to help adults learn that have yet to get much attention in sports teaching, especially in schools that prepare people to become coaches. This qualitative exploratory study looked at a university program in Padang, Indonesia, that was meant to prepare students to work with adult athletes. The study looked at how the ideas from Knowles' Andragogy in Practice Model were used in that school. We talked to and asked 14 pre-service coaching students and nine adult players about their learning experiences, interests, and environmental factors. The results aligned with andragogy ideas like giving students choice, problem-based learning, and teaching based on values. Cultural values valuing group work and obedience to authority clashed with basic pedagogical principles. Economic limits also affected how ready people were to learn on their own. The general company mindset continued to be similar to how young people are coached. A combined method that adapts andragogy to the local social, cultural, and sports norms is offered to improve coaching education and adult learning in this setting. The results shed light on an area that has not been studied much and applied to andragogical theory. They also show how to use teach-ing methods appropriate for different cultures.

Abstract

Research article abstracts play a vital role in shaping initial impressions of scholarly work. This study investigates nuances in abstract writing across arts and humanities, social sciences, physics and astronomy, and chemistry. Using Bhatia's four-move and Hyland's five-move models, we analyze rhetorical move structures in 20 recent abstracts from top journals in each discipline. Verb tense preferences are examined through Tseng's approach, with a focus on the introduction move. Lexical density ratios are calculated following Halliday to assess complexity. Results reveal distinct move patterns between soft sciences (arts and humanities, social sciences) emphasizing logical flow, and hard sciences (physics and astronomy, chemistry) prioritizing conciseness. Verb tense analysis exposes tailored rhetorical strategies, with soft sciences exhibiting varied tenses and hard sciences consistently using present perfect tense to frame background. Lexical density is higher in soft science abstracts indicating more descriptive narratives, while hard science abstracts are more information-dense. These disciplinary nuances underscore the need for tailored guidelines and training in abstract writing. Findings contribute insights to enhance coherence, aligned with the conventions and epistemologies of diverse scientific communities.

Abstract

This study utilized Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to identify the core factors that constitute lifelong learning competencies among students with disabilities in a university context. This study aimed to evaluate the content validity and perform Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) on a 14-item scale designed to assess lifelong learning competencies in students with disabilities. The items were developed based on five key factors: Goal setting, application of knowledge and skills, self-direction and self-evaluation, locating information, and adaptable learning strategies Analyzing the responses of 46 students with disabilities, the study validated the content of the 14 items on the Lifelong Learning Competencies scale. However, the EFA process indicated that only these 10 items could be consolidated into theoretical factors, resulting in four key dimensions: curiosity, openness to learning, access to information and information literacy, and self-direction and self-evaluation. These factors encapsulate critical elements of lifelong learning competencies, including self-regulation, critical thinking, and adaptability. The findings underscore the necessity for universities to implement inclusive strategies that nurture these competencies, thereby fostering an environment conducive to the success of students with disabilities. This research contributes to the advancement of inclusive educational practices, ensuring that students with disabilities are equipped to thrive in lifelong learning and achieve academic and professional success.

Abstract

Research has shown that lack in resilience may contribute to relapse among former drug addicts. Furthermore, spirituality is recognized as a factor that can positively influence resilience levels. This study investigates the connection between resilience and spirituality among individuals undergoing treatment in drug rehabilitation centres. The objectives were to assess: (1) the level of spirituality among drug addicts, (2) the level of resilience among drug addicts, and (3) the correlation between spirituality and resilience. Using a correlational research design and quantitative methodology, data were collected from 224 participants who are inmate from drug rehabilitation centre. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and the Ummatic Personality Inventory (UPI) were utilized to measure resilience and spirituality, respectively. Results indicated that most participants demonstrated moderate levels of spirituality (75%) and resilience (62.5%). A significant positive relationship between the two variables was found (Pearson’s r = 0.665, p < 0.001), indicating that higher levels of spirituality are associated with increased resilience among drug addicts in rehabilitation.
