The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between leg muscle strength and the ability of Pencak Silat sickle kicks in Muhammadiyah Bangkinang Middle School students. This type of research is multiple correlation. The population in this study was Muhammadoyah Bangkinang Middle School students, totaling 22 people. The sampling technique in this research is the overall sample with a total research sample of 22 people. Data collection techniques are observation techniques, library techniques and test or measurement techniques. Data analysis in this research uses the correlation test to find the relationship between and prove the hypothesis of the relationship between two variables if the data for both variables are in the form of intervals or ratios, and the data sources from two or more variables are the same. The results of the research show that there is a significant relationship in the opposite direction between the vertical jump and the sickle kick with a correlation coefficient of 0.579 with a significant level of product moment analysis value of Sig, with a percentage 80%. (2-tailed) is smaller than α=0.001 (0.000 < 0.001). The conclusion of this research shows that there is a significant and opposite contribution between the vertical jump and sickle kick the all at Muhammadiyah Bangkinang Middle School.

Abstract

Background: The development of martial arts is accompanied by their institutionalization. The theoretical perspective of GTFA - the General Theory of Fighting Arts and the sociology of physical culture, and the resulting conceptual language were adopted. Problem: An indicator of the institutionalization - the WI (wskaźnik instytucjonalizacji) was proposed to determine the advancement of the institutional development process in fighting arts organizations. It depends on the duration of operation of a given organization. Method: Two qualitative research methods were used - the method of long-term participant observation and broad discourse analysis. Results: The duration of operation affects the position and institutional maturity of a given organization; allows for a longer impact on the social environment. Long-term operation contributes to the stability and recognition of a given organization in the community. A minimum period of 30 years of constant activity seems to be an appropriate criterion for achieving a certain institutional maturity (institutionalization index WI 1). Conclusions: Combat sports organizations of European origin and those that patronize Olympic disciplines (judo) have been operating in Poland for the longest time. Other combat sports organizations in their institutionalization imitate the patterns and institutions adopted in these older organizations.

Abstract

As the future of the motherland and the hope of the nation, primary school students shoulder the historical mission and important task of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The current stage of primary education has become an important position for the popularization and promotion of Chinese martial arts. At present, physical education teachers in primary schools do not know enough about the characteristics of students' physical and mental development, which leads to the inability of physical education teachers to carry out martial arts teaching scientifically and effectively. Therefore, this study mainly adopts the literature method to study the characteristics of physical function development and psychological development of primary school students, and reveals the influence of different physical function and psychological development characteristics on wushu teaching in primary school. Research shows that primary school students are at a critical stage of physiological and psychological development, and the development of bone, muscle, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems is not mature. Teachers should consider these physiological characteristics when designing Wushu courses to avoid excessive load and ensure that students train in a safe environment. At the same time, the psychological development of primary school students is also in a stage of rapid change, with an intense curiosity and imitation ability. However, the attention and willpower are relatively weak. Therefore, the teaching method should focus on stimulating students' interest, cultivating good emotional expression and teamwork ability, and promoting the development of their memory, thinking and comprehensive quality through effective teaching design, so as to provide scientific and effective countermeasures for primary school physical education teachers to carry out martial arts teaching, so as to better popularize and promote Chinese martial arts in the primary education stage.

Abstract

Studi Purpose: Today, in the modern West, karate exists in two systematically different paradigms: Budo and Sport, which are in a state of constant competition for a place and influence in society. In recent years, there has been a tendency to shift the focus of Western society towards Sport, which poses real challenges to Japanese style Budo karate: 1) the threat of becoming a typical Western sport; 2) the threat of marginalization and loss of authenticity and features of the Eastern combat system. Method. The review and analytical study is a summary of the results of the author's previous research and is based on his many years of practical experience in both Budo and Olympic sports. The working hypothesis of the study is to determine the potential ability of the sport discipline of General Karate to become a new compromise between Budo and Sport and to be an effective means of protecting karate from modern challenges and strengthening the influence of authentic Japanese style karate in the West. The article is the presentation at the 13th International Conference IMACSSS, 14-16.10.2024, Malaysia. Result and Discussion. The article provides evidence that Budo and Sport are fundamentally different social phenomena that cannot be evaluated solely in terms of sports competitions. The author uses a civilizational-historical approach and analyzes the structural construction of the Budo and Sport paradigms, respectively. Conclusion. The author considers the compromises made by the East in promoting karate to the West and the assertion that General Karate can be a new compromise that meets the needs of Westerners in top-level competitions and, at the same time, does not require the style to change its own identity, abandon the traditional training strategy or make any concessions to its own philosophical principles.

Abstract

This study explores the lived experiences of collegiate Karatedo athletes in the Philippines who engaged in mental imagery as part of their athletic preparation. Using a narrative inquiry approach, the research investigates how athletes internalize and make sense of visualization techniques, particularly in enhancing performance readiness, confidence, and stress regulation. Data were gathered from in-depth narrative interviews with ten Karatedo athletes from five universities who completed an eight-week structured imagery program. Emerging stories reflect how athletes used imagery as a rehearsal space, a confidence builder, and a mechanism for emotional regulation. The study highlights imagery’s transformative influence on mental preparation, resilience, and identity formation in competitive martial arts. Findings emphasize the need for sport programs to adopt mental training techniques that are personal, reflective, and emotionally empowering.
