Abstract

The problem in this study is to determine the factors that cause the suboptimal performance of Karate Dojo Street Fighter Athletes in Bukittingi City. This study aims to determine the physical condition and technique of Karate Dojo Street Fighter Athletes in Bukittingi City. This type of research is descriptive statistics. The population in this study consisted of 15 male and 5 female Karate Dojo Street Fighter athletes in Bukittingi City. Sampling in this study used the census method, where all athletes were used as samples, with a total of 20 athletes. The research instrument used a test consisting of aerobic endurance with a 15-minute Balke Test run test, leg muscle explosive power measured by the standing board jump test, speed measured by a 20m sprint, agility measured by side step, punching technique measured by gyaku tsuki. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive statistical methods (frequency tabulation), with the formula P = F / N x 100%. The results of this study show that the abilities of Karate Dojo Street Fighter Athletes in Bukittingi City on all assessment indicators can be categorized as good / very good. Based on this, it can be suggested for other dojos in Bukittinggi city to improve their physical condition, improve their aerobic endurance through long-distance running and long-distance walking, improve their speed through speed play training, improve their punching ability through gyaku tsuki combination training, and be more active in training both during training and outside of training hours.

Abstract

Purpose. The crescent kick is one of the important basic techniques in the martial art of Pencak Silat, used to gain quick points in a short time in every Pencak Silat match using basic technical movements with agility to move to avoid opponents in the martial art of Pencak Silat. The research method uses a variety of exercises such as using rubber weights in order to strengthen the muscles in the legs, and make the legs not stiff. The purpose of this study is to determine the accuracy when using the crescent kick for someone who studies the martial art of Pencak Silat. The research method used is an experiment with a one group pre-test post-test design. The sample in the study were IPSI (Indonesian Pencak Silat Association) Talang Kelapa martial artists, the sampling technique used was random sampling data and the sample in this study were students of IPSI (Indonesian Pencak Silat Association) Talang Kelapa martial artists totaling 10 athletes. Data analysis used was the t-test. The results of this study showed an average pretest score of 26.7 and a posttest score of 37.1, resulting in a mean difference of 10.4 between the pretest and posttest scores. The study's recommendations suggest that the rubber weights used provide significant resistance to movement, enabling athletes to overcome the resistance and change direction of their kicks.

Abstract

Studi Purpose The problem of this research is that the athletes are less than optimal in doing the speed of the jab. This study aims to determine the effect of dumbbell weight training and spring force training on the speed of the jab. Method This research is a type of quasi-experimental research. This research was carried out at the Andalas Plaza, Padang City. The time of the research implementation is from February 21 to March 21, 2021. The design of this research is "pre-test and post-test two group design". The overall population of athletes at Plaza Andalas Boxing Camp, Padang City. Sampling was taken using a total sampling technique, where the sample was male athletes, totaling 8 athletes. The types of data needed in this study are primary data and secondary data. Sources of data obtained through direct data collection in the field through tests and measurements of the sample. The instrument of this research is through a jab speed test. Result The statistical data analysis technique used the Liliefors normality test and t-test with a significant level of = 0.05. From the results of the research, the effect can be seen from the mean difference t-test where the increase in the speed of the jab in the dumble weight training group is 17 times higher than the group using the spring force training group 6 times. Thus, this value indicates that the given dumbbell weight training and spring force training have differences in increasing the speed of the jab at the Plaza Andalas Boxing Camp boxing athletes, Padang City.

Abstract

Martial arts and combat sports have grown significantly in recent decades, both in terms of the number of practitioners and scientific production, establishing themselves as relevant practices for health, athletic performance, and human development. In this scenario, the relevance of teacher training stands out, traditionally linked to the achievement of a black belt or equivalent, but marked by a technical character. Although effective in transmitting motor skills, this model neglects pedagogical and theoretical dimensions that are fundamental for critical and contextualized teaching. There are studies that demonstrate scientifically tested methods for teaching martial arts and combat sports. However, many teachers are unaware of these scientific advances with practical potential. Thus, this study proposes recommendations for teacher training in martial arts and combat sports, such as bringing science closer through theoretical-practical courses, lectures, and refresher programs; valuing master-apprentice guidance; and specializing in specific audiences. Such measures can contribute to professional qualification and the consolidation of more effective, safer teaching practices that are aligned with scientific evidence.

Abstract

Abstract

Perspective: Among the many martial arts, disciplines, and styles, only a few have achieved global renown. Managing a company or other martial arts organization requires promotional activities. The broader concept of marketing and the General Theory of Fighting Arts provide the theoretical foundation for this discussion. Problem: Are there any relationships between the type of promotional activities and fame, popularity, and measurable organizational success? How does presence in popular culture (films, books, celebrities) contribute to the international popularity of a given martial art style?. Method: A multiple case study was conducted for five relatively popular martial arts styles. Promotion of the style in films, books, through celebrities, international organizations, and the history of the master was considered. Included: 1) Kyokushin karate; 2) Wing Tsun kung fu; 3) American kenpo karate; 4) Jeet Kune Do kung fu; 5) Chuck Norris System. Results: International popularity is achieved only through a combination of the following promotional activities: film appearances, books, celebrity students, and organizational development. Conclusions: In the absence of such activities, the distinguished master-teacher and his school remain largely unknown or little known. Particularly in martial arts that reject competitive sports, it is difficult to achieve greater international popularity.

Abstract

Perspective. Traditional martial arts are increasingly incorporated into higher education as competitive and co-curricular activities; however, empirical evidence explaining how pedagogical practices influence psychological readiness and performance remains limited, particularly within culturally embedded martial traditions such as silat. Problem. Much of the existing literature prioritises biomechanical or performance-oriented perspectives, offering limited insight into the pedagogical and psychological mechanisms through which training is translated into effective competitive outcomes. This gap risks reducing silat to a culturally neutral sport and overlooks its educational and cultural foundations. Method. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between pedagogical practices, psychological readiness, and competitive performance among Malaysian university silat athletes, with particular attention to the mediating role of psychological readiness and the relative contribution of culturally grounded pedagogy. A quantitative, cross-sectional research design was employed involving 312 silat athletes from public universities in Malaysia. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM). Results. The findings indicate that pedagogical practices have a strong, positive relationship with athletes’ psychological readiness, whereas psychological readiness, in turn, significantly predicts competitive performance. Pedagogical practices also demonstrate a weaker but significant direct effect on performance. Mediation analysis confirms that psychological readiness partially mediates the relationship between pedagogy and performance. Conclusions. Among pedagogical dimensions, cultural–philosophical integration emerges as the strongest predictor of psychological readiness. In conclusion, the study provides empirical evidence that pedagogical quality, particularly culturally grounded pedagogy, plays a central role in shaping psychological readiness and enabling consistent competitive performance among university silat athletes. Future research should adopt longitudinal designs, incorporate objective performance indicators, and extend this pedagogical–psychological framework to other traditional martial arts and cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the movement techniques of momtong dollyo and eolgol dollyo chagi kicks in kyorugi athletes at the Orion Taekwondo dojang, which, based on initial observations, still show weak mastery of basic techniques. The approach used is descriptive with a case study method, involving 14 kyorugi athletes selected purposively. Technique assessment was conducted using an assessment rubric and evaluated by judgment through observation of four technical aspects: initial stance, execution, final stance, and dominant kicks. Data analysis was carried out using a quantitative descriptive model with a percentage formula. The research results showed that 65.47% of athletes were classified as athletes who frequently use the eolgol dollyo chagi kick, while 96.42% of athletes mostly used the momtong dollyo chagi kick. It can be concluded that the momtong dollyo chagi kick is more often used in competitions because it is easier to perform compared to the eolgol dollyo chagi kick, with the tendency that the kicks used by athletes aim to score as many points as possible and win the match.
