Abstract

This community service research aims to provide anti-bullying education to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for students at the Matlabul Ulum Jambu Lenteng Islamic Boarding School in Sumenep. Bullying, whether physical, verbal, or psychological, has been shown to negatively impact students' mental health, social well-being, and learning motivation. The research used a qualitative, participatory approach through observation, interviews, and educational activities involving students, religious teachers and boarding school administrators. The educational program was implemented through religious lectures, group discussions, role-playing, and the reinforcement of Islamic values such as brotherhood, empathy, and mutual respect. The results showed a significant increase in students' awareness of the dangers of bullying, a decrease in bullying cases, and increased empathy and social awareness among students. The active role of the teachers and boarding school administrators, along with the implementation of a stricter monitoring system, contributed to the program's success. Overall, the anti-bullying education at this Islamic boarding school was effective in building a more peaceful, inclusive, and character-based culture. Going forward, this program needs to be continuously evaluated and strengthened so that anti-bullying values become more ingrained in the students' daily lives.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve financial literacy and foster a culture of saving among elementary school students through an educational and creative approach. The target participants were students in grades 1–3 at SD Negeri 1 Kepuhrejo, Tulungagung. The activity employed a combination of financial education, direct practice, creative activities, educational games, and saving simulations. Student understanding was evaluated qualitatively through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and simple reflective evaluation conducted before and after the learning activities. The evaluation focused on students’ ability to explain the concept of money, distinguish between needs and wants, and demonstrate saving behavior during the simulation. The results showed a positive change in students’ understanding, as reflected in their ability to respond to questions and identify examples of needs and wants after the educational session. Students also demonstrated greater willingness to set aside pocket money during the saving simulation and expressed interest in continuing to use their decorated piggy banks. These findings indicate that combining financial education with creative and experiential activities can support the development of basic financial literacy and positive saving attitudes among elementary school students. The activity provides a practical model that can be adapted and replicated in other elementary school settings.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has brought significant implications for education, particularly in students’ patterns of gadget use. Although gadgets have become an integral part of students’ daily lives, their use is often dominated by entertainment rather than learning and worship, potentially creating challenges for students’ moral and spiritual development. This community service activity was conducted at SMPN 1 Ngantru, Tulungagung Regency, involving 993 students from Grades VII, VIII, and IX. The activity aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of Islamic manners in gadget use and encourage them to utilize digital devices wisely, productively, and in ways that support worship. The activity employed interactive lectures, discussions, ice-breaking activities, and simple evaluations. The effectiveness of the activity was evaluated through students’ responses to questions about Islamic manners in gadget use, their participation and enthusiasm during discussions and activities, and their ability to identify appropriate and inappropriate patterns of gadget use in relation to learning, entertainment, and worship. The results showed that students demonstrated better understanding of appropriate gadget use, active participation in discussions, and greater awareness of the importance of limiting entertainment-oriented use and maintaining discipline in worship. These findings indicate that integrating Islamic literacy with interactive activities can provide a practical approach to strengthening students’ digital ethics and character in the context of contemporary technology use. The activity highlights the importance of incorporating Islamic digital ethics into character education to guide students toward responsible, productive, and spiritually meaningful gadget use.

Abstract

Environmental problems caused by plastic waste remain a serious challenge, including in primary education. The low level of students’ awareness of waste management highlights the need to strengthen environmental character from an early age. This community service activity aimed to strengthen students’ environmental ethics through eco-theology-based recycling creativity at SDN 1 Ngantru, Ngantru District, Tulungagung Regency. The activity employed an educational-participatory approach consisting of eco-theology and environmental ethics education, demonstrations, hands-on practice in transforming used plastic gallons into plant pots, reflection, and evaluation. The participants were 45 second- and third-grade students. The success of the activity was assessed qualitatively based on three main indicators: students’ understanding of eco-theology and the importance of environmental protection, students’ environmentally responsible behavior during the activity, and their ability to produce functional plant pots from used plastic gallons. Evaluation was conducted through observation of student participation and behavior, assessment of students’ responses to questions about the learning materials, and evaluation of their recycled products. The results showed that more than 90% of students actively participated throughout the activity, while all groups successfully produced plant pots of acceptable quality. Students also demonstrated the ability to explain the learning materials, maintain cleanliness, and develop practical skills in reusing plastic waste. Integrating eco-theological values with recycling activities provided students with a learning experience that connected environmental knowledge, character development, and practical skills. Therefore, an educational-participatory approach based on eco-theology has potential as an applicable environmental education model for strengthening environmental awareness and responsible environmental behavior among primary school students.

Abstract

Limited vocabulary mastery remains a major challenge in Arabic language learning at Islamic elementary schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah), as instruction is still largely dominated by memorization and translation with minimal support from a meaningful Arabic language environment. Consequently, students often struggle to retain and use vocabulary in simple communicative contexts. This study aimed to describe the mentoring process for establishing an Arabic language environment (bi'ah lughawiyah) and to analyze its implementation in improving students' vocabulary mastery at MI Miftahul Ulum Angsokah Timur. The study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings revealed that the systematic implementation of bi'ah lughawiyah through daily language habituation, song-based vocabulary memorization, the use of the Green Dictionary (Kamus Hijau), hiwar practice, audiovisual media, and Arabic wall magazines successfully created a language-rich environment that enhanced students' vocabulary mastery, pronunciation accuracy, learning motivation, and self-confidence. This study contributes a contextual mentoring model that integrates classroom instruction with the linguistic culture of the madrasah, offering an effective and sustainable approach to strengthening Arabic language learning at the Islamic elementary school level
