Abstract

Martin Buber is one of those prominent philosophers who offer alternatives to the problem of the distanced or separated view of objects. This view has rooted in the Eastern world, thanks to the Cartesian modern philosophy and the increasingly development of science. The Philosophy of Dialogue is Buber’s proposal to overcome the problem of subject-object distancedness and separatedness. The Philosophy of Dialogue argues that reality is “relation”. There are two kind of relations, according to Buber: I-Thou and I-It relation. The I-Thou relation is human experience as a totality; an original, spontaneous, unpretended and uninterested one that gives effect to the subject and the object as such. The I-It relation, on the contrary, is a distanced and power-pretended relation. It is the later relation that dominates philosophy and science in nineteenth century.Human has a central and fundamental place in Buber’s metaphysical concept of “relation” because the whole beings exist in human’s encounter toward them. Buber’s view about human nature, therefore, is the most basic of his entire philosophical thought. This philosophical standpoint enables Buber to begin his formulation on philosophy of religion. Buber expresses God as The Eternal Thou. With this expression, The Eternal Thou, Buber wants to move beyond all manifestations of human’s belief of God because it is not the understanding about God that Buber is pointing at, but the dialogical moment between man and God. Buber also argues that the only way to express the encounter with The Eternal Thou is by using paradoxical language. Only this paradoxical language can touch the most sublime side of that encounter. Keywords: Martin Buber, Filsafat Dialog, Relasi I-Thou dan I-It, The Eternal Thou, Bahasa Paradox

Abstract

“Moderate Muslims” is a problematic, in the sense that it is too wide for the debate and the plurality of meanings. Everything depends entirely on the perspective, mindset, or even a subjective interests of the maker of meaning itself. This paper describes the debate over the meaning, sociological reality and the role of “moderate Muslims” in Indonesia. With a sociological explanation, this paper concluded that in the context of socio-political constellation today, the meaning of the term “moderate Muslim” can actually be identified easily. The term refers to the majority of Muslims who live and move to and in the midst of the society, seeking a change from ground, and reject religious extremism, violence, and terrorism. Abstract

On the other hand, Islam emphasizes on equality, justice, takāful, freedom and honor, and has theocentrism humanistic concept as a core value of all its teachings. Therefore, it is always interesting to explore the  development of Islamic civilization. At the same time, in translating the concept of the sky to the earth, Islam has dynamic character, elastic and accommodating the local culture, as long as not contrary to the principles of Islam itself. The problem only lies in the procedures and technical implementation. In the context of Indonesian Islamic propaganda, its spread is never separated from the role of Wali Songo. This wali, although many people believed that their mission is much influenced by Sufism thought, but that does not mean they do not consider other aspects, such as geo-strategy, geo-politics, socio-cultural and others. The relationship between Islam and local issues is a never ended thrill. The intimate connection between the two is triggered by excitement followers of Islam who believe in religion with the slogan: shālih li kull zamān wa makān. In this regard, it is reasonable attempt to reconcile between religion and culture. Demak Mosque is a concrete example of the attempt of reconciliation or the accommodation. Islamic way of greeting the local culture is to change the substance of particular locality towards universal-religious as can be seen in the process of Islamization puppet by giving nuances of symbolic-religious character of Islamization than Arabization. Abstract

Education is a human universality as well as a most strategic factor in his life. In the framework of philosophy, man is a material object, while the formal object is all efforts striven for the development of all the potency, all of which were directed at achieving a particular goal. Human existence should be clearly drafted to obtain the ideal formulation of education.Human existence has been equipped with a variety of useful basic potency by God as a tool to reveal the explicit reality that surrounds them in order to get to the truth. As the only creature that has the ability of orientation in three dimensions of time (past, present, and future) make human being special among other beings. To maintain the credibility of the self, man must keep learning. Given by nature not as a mere creature in “being” but rather a creature of “becoming”, he requires a learning process continually, continuously as well sustainably throughout his life, ranging from cradle to grave. This then produced the paradigm of life-long education.Islam, so many centuries ago before the passing of Western concept, has had a theory about lifelong education. Even Islamic education is not only oriented towards the anthropological dimension, but rather includes two poles at once; namely the theocentric and anthropocentric. This study basically aims to explore the concept of lifelong education philosophically, including: (1) what is the nature of lifelong education?; (2) how is the development of lifelong education?; (3) how is the implementation of lifelong education? To answer these questions, this library research uses hermeneutics to interpret facts, data, and phenomena. The collection of data is obtained from primary sources and secondary ones with deductive and inductive approaches. This study also uses reflective contextual logic, namely a system of reasoning with governance between the empirical and the abstract. Keywords: lifelong education, learning process, human potency

Abstract

Ijtihad is mandatory in Islam, but it became an impossible dream since the fatwa of closing of the doors of ijtihad and the enactment of various hard and complex terms for mujtahid qualification. However, scholars have sought to soften the terms of ijtihad by offering the concept of tajazzu’ al-ijtihād, ijtihād jamā‘ī up to critical muqallid. What about the so called santris? Could the students perform ijtihad? Ijtihad is not impossible, indeed, for santris, especially at the level three (critical muqallid). Such taqlid can be categorized as taqlid manhajī. Moreover, those santris had been doing this latest version of ijtihad, including through bahtsul masail forum. However, this forum still must be addressed on several aspects, such as expanding the studies discipline (interdisciplinary), analyzing the impact of decisions on social transformation, as well as maximizing of publication and collection of feedback. Keywords: ijtihad, santri, taqlid.

Abstract

Al-Jabiri’s thought, one of prominent thinkers of Islamic reform, considered as one with original ideas. His two main ideas, namely turats and hadatsah and epistemological critique of Islam (Arabic) is considered unique, despite the criticism leveled by some thinkers. The idea of turats and hadatsah emphasis on more comprehensive reading on turats accompanied by a more productive reading. His criticism on the epistemology of Islam (Arabic), which departed from the mapping of Arabic reason, is very popular; Bayani-Burhani-Irfani. These Al-Jabiri’s ideas, especially about turats and hadatsah, are inspiring this article. It can be used as a telescope to look at Pesantren tradition that became the basis of Al-Qolam tradition as well as its area of concern contained in its vision "to be the best Research Islamic Unibersity Based on Pesantren in East Java in 2030". Turats reading and methods of reading on turats initiated by Al-Jabiri could be adopted by Al-Qolam in defining and reading the Pesantren tradition. Keywords: turats and hadatsah, pesantren, the vision of Al-Qolam
