Abstract

Depression is a common phenomenon in Indonesia, particularly among adolescents. Many teenagers today suffer from mild to severe depression as a result of stress from both internal and external factors, which can lead to mental problems and even suicidal thoughts. This fact can be seen from the results of the pretest conducted on students in class 11 Mathematics and Natural Sciences  3, which resulted in eight students who have mild depression categories. Therefore, an effort should be made to reduce the level of depression symptoms by providing group counseling using motivational interviewing techniques so that the level of depression symptoms does not rise to the severe depression level. This study aims to see how effective group counseling with the motivational interviewing technique is in helping class 11 Mathematics and Natural Science 3 of State Islamic High School 2 Bandar Lampung students overcome mild symptoms of depression. This study employed a pre-experimental research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The data-collecting techniques employed were questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The purposive sampling technique was utilized to select eight students as the sample from class 11 Mathematics and Natural Sciences 3. The treatment consisted of six meetings, including pretests and posttests. The results revealed a pretest score of 263 with an average of 32.8 and a posttest score of 151 with an average of 18.8. There is a noticeable difference after receiving group counseling with motivational interviewing technique. The results of the T-test and N-gain indicated a decrease in the level of depression experienced by students, as seen by the pretest and posttest scores.

Abstract

Social media among teenagers leads to problems with body dissatisfaction caused by the intensity of use, which influences teenagers to compare themselves with the ideal self that is shared on the media. The aim of this research is to determine the role of social media user intensity in body dissatisfaction mediated by social comparison. This research is quantitative research with a correlational model. The subjects in the research were 103 young female students from X senior high school in the Sidoarjo. The data collected was analyzed using the linear regression formula and path analysis to test the mediation hypothesis. The results showed that the intensity of social media use was correlated with body dissatisfaction with a significance value of 0.031 (P<0.05) . The research also found that there is a role of intensity of social media use on body dissatisfaction mediated by social comparison with a t count value greater than t table 14.122 > 1.98.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage characterized by emotional and social challenges that significantly impact mental health. Emotion regulation plays a fundamental role in adolescent well-being, influencing behavioral outcomes, peer relationships, and resilience to stress. This study reviews existing literature on emotion regulation among adolescents, examining factors such as social support, peer victimization, and family influence. A systematic literature search was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies that explore emotion regulation interventions and their effectiveness. Findings indicate that strong emotion regulation skills act as protective factors against maladaptive behaviors, while poor regulation is associated with increased risks of anxiety, depression, and self-injury. Social support from family and peers plays a crucial role in shaping adolescent emotional development, with parental responsiveness and peer interactions significantly influencing regulatory abilities. Interventions such as mindfulness-based programs and cognitive behavioral therapy demonstrate effectiveness in enhancing emotion regulation, but their success depends on cultural and contextual adaptations. Additionally, systemic factors, including educational policies and social environments, further influence emotion regulation outcomes. The study emphasizes the need for integrated intervention strategies that address individual, familial, and societal influences on emotion regulation. Future research should investigate long-term intervention impacts, explore the neurobiological basis of emotion regulation, and develop culturally adapted programs to enhance effectiveness. Implementing evidence-based approaches in schools and communities can significantly improve adolescent mental health and resilience.

Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of applying the PETTLEP Imagery technique, with a focus on Physical and Timing aspects, in increasing self-efficacy in non-professional karate athletes. This method involves realistic visualization of movements as well as simulating the duration of movements according to the match situation. The intervention was carried out in the Psychology Building at Muria Kudus University, with a duration of each session of 1–2 hours. The subject involved was a 23 year old female karate athlete who had experience competing from an early age. The implementation method includes physical training combined with visualization of movements and setting the duration according to match time. The results of the activity showed that the subject experienced a significant increase in self-confidence, concentration, and mastery of movements that were more accurate and regular. The combination of Physical and Timing techniques has proven to be effective in increasing the efficiency of movement techniques and reducing anxiety before the match. In conclusion, the PETTLEP Imagery technique can increase athletes' physical and mental readiness in facing competitions, with a positive impact on training performance and reducing anxiety.

Abstract

Urbanization has significantly reshaped social and environmental landscapes, posing complex challenges to mental health in densely populated areas. This narrative review aims to explore how urban stressors—both social and physical—influence psychological well-being, and what interventions may mitigate their impact. Literature was collected through comprehensive searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using keywords such as "urban mental health," "social determinants," and "environmental factors." Inclusion criteria focused on peer-reviewed studies examining urban populations and mental health correlations. Results consistently highlight the protective role of strong social networks in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, while isolation is a major risk factor. Environmental stressors such as poor housing, pollution, and lack of green spaces exacerbate psychological distress, particularly among marginalized populations. Access to mental health services remains unequal, with systemic barriers like funding gaps and service fragmentation limiting outreach. Discussion reveals that while findings align with classical theories, new data support the integration of technological, environmental, and community-based approaches. Policy recommendations include promoting green urban design, investing in community programs, and expanding access to digital mental health tools. In conclusion, enhancing social support and equitable access to services are vital strategies for improving mental health outcomes in urban settings.
