Abstract

Diarrhea is still one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in almost all geographic regions in the world, where all age groups can be attacked by diarrhea. Toddlers are an age group that is vulnerable to disease because their immune systems are still weak so they are easily attacked by bacterial, viral and parasitic infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Candi Sidoarjo Health Center work area. This research method uses descriptive research involving 44 respondents. Data collection using observation sheets. The results of the examination showed that most respondents had a clean water source (68%), healthy toilets (66%), but there were still SPAL and trash bins that did not meet the requirements (48% and 52% respectively). In addition, although most mothers had good hand washing behavior (86%), diarrhea was still found. The conclusion of this study is that environmental and behavioral factors, especially those related to SPAL, waste management, and hand hygiene, play an important role in the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Education efforts and improvement of sanitation facilities are needed to reduce the prevalence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Candi Sidoarjo Health Center area.

Abstract

Anemia occurs when the number of erythrocytes is below the standard value, resulting in less blood carrying oxygen supply to all body tissues. Iron deficiency leads to blood loss. One of the preventive measures is taking blood supplement tablets, but knowledge and consumption of Fe tablets are still relatively low. The study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and consumption of Fe tablets with the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Mu'awanah Sidoarjo Regency. The cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2025 involving 40 female respondents, selected by purposive sampling. Data on knowledge and consumption of Fe tablets were obtained from a questionnaire, while the examination of hemoglobin levels was measured using the Easy Touch Glucose Cholesterol Hemoglobin tool. The results showed that 60% of respondents had good knowledge, 60% regularly consumed Fe tablets, and 62.5% were not anemic. Statistical test analysis was significant, namely the relationship between knowledge and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.000) and Fe tablet consumption with the incidence of anemia (p = 0.046). In conclusion, increasing good knowledge and consuming Fe tablets tends not to be anemic. Therefore, there is a need for continuous health education and routine health monitoring on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

Stroke is the leading cause of death and disability globally, so the role of caregivers is important in meeting the long-term care needs of stroke patients. This study aims to describe the support received by caregivers with stroke. This study uses a qualitative descriptive design with a total sampling approach with a total of 41 caregiver respondents. The instruments used were questionnaires that included emotional support, reward support, instrumental support, and informational support, collected through live interviews. The data were analyzed univariately to describe the percentage of support. The results showed that the majority of caregivers received good instrumental support (87.80%), followed by information support (78.05%), emotional support (75.61%), and reward support (63.41%). These findings indicate that, although instrumental support and information are quite high, efforts are still needed to improve emotional support and appreciation for caregivers with stroke for optimal long-term care. This study emphasizes the importance of interventions that focus on holistic support for caregivers.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels caused by problems with insulin secretion and function. Proper nutritional management is a key component in controlling blood glucose. Stable blood sugar levels can be maintained with a nutritious diet and avoiding unhealthy foods. This study used a cross-sectional methodology and a descriptive analytical strategy. Thirty-four people with diabetes mellitus in Wonoayu Village were sampled using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a 24-hour food recall form and blood glucose measurements using a glucometer. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The study findings showed a strong correlation between dietary habits and blood glucose levels (p = 0.000). Compared with patients with poor dietary habits, individuals with good dietary habits tended to have normal blood glucose levels. This study demonstrates the importance of dietary habits in regulating blood glucose levels, including the type, amount, and timing of meals. To improve adherence to the recommended diet for people with diabetes mellitus, education about healthy eating is crucial.

Abstract

Pneumonia is the most prevalent and possibly fatal respiratory illness among children under five. The purpose of this study is to look at the connection between family smoking habits, nutritional status, and the prevalence of pneumonia in children under five in the Candi Health Center's working region. 43 families with children ages 0 days to under 5 years who sought treatment at the Candi Health Center were chosen using the sequential sampling technique. This study employs descriptive analysis and a cross-sectional methodology. 86% of participants in the research had acceptable nutritional status. Furthermore, according to 80% of families, at least one person smokes at home. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square Test revealed no significant correlation between the incidence of pneumonia and baby nutritional health (p=0.190); nevertheless, there was a high correlation between the incidence of pneumonia in infants and family smoking (p=0.000). Toddlers' health is negatively impacted by family smoking practices, particularly because it raises their risk of pneumonia. Families with small children should know how important it is to keep smoking away from them, safeguard their health, and take them to the doctor on a regular basis for exams.

Abstract

High blood pressure, often known as hypertension, is a common medical issue that can lead to major problems like stroke and cardiovascular diseases. Unhealthy lifestyle choices and a lack of knowledge about hypertension among those who are afflicted are typically linked to the start of the ailment. The research design used in this study was descriptive. A total of 84 respondents diagnosed with hypertension in the working area of Sukodono Public Health Center were recruited using a cross-sectional approach. The frequency distribution revealed that, among the 84 participants, knowledge of hypertension was categorized as good in 30 individuals (35.7%), moderate in 33 individuals (39.2%), and poor in 21 individuals (25.0%). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge among hypertensive patients at Sukodono Public Health Center, Sidoarjo District, was predominantly at a moderate level, represented by 33 participants. The majority of these patients were between 51–60 years old, female, unemployed or housewives, and had attained a senior high school level of education. Accordingly, it is recommended that Sukodono Public Health Center strengthen its health education programs for hypertensive patients in order to enhance their understanding of the disease and to reduce the risk of more severe complications

Abstract

Hypertension, a highly prevalent non-communicable disease, can lead to serious complications including kidney failure and stroke. It is well recognized that unhealthy dietary patterns significantly influence blood pressure stability. This study aimed to examine the correlation between dietary habits and blood pressure stability among individuals with hypertension at Sukodono Primary Health Center. A cross-sectional methodology with a quantitative descriptive design was employed. The sample, obtained through consecutive sampling, consisted of 43 respondents. Data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and direct blood pressure measurements taken during three visits. Descriptive analysis with frequency and percentage distributions was applied. The findings showed that 17 respondents (40%) had unhealthy dietary habits, while 26 respondents (60%) reported healthy dietary patterns. Sixteen respondents (37%) experienced unstable blood pressure, whereas 27 respondents (63%) had stable blood pressure. The majority of respondents with healthy dietary patterns generally maintained stable blood pressure (96%), while most of those with unhealthy dietary patterns demonstrated unstable circulation (88%). This study concludes that nutritious food intake is strongly correlated with blood pressure stability in hypertensive patients. At the primary care level, modifying diets to reduce saturated fat and salt while increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables represents an essential strategy for managing hypertension

Abstract

Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa that can be caused by various factors, both internal and external, such as irregular eating patterns and excessive coffee consumption. In recent years, the number of gastritis cases in the Wonoayu Community Health Center working area has shown a significant increase. This indicates the importance of preventive efforts by understanding the risk factors that can cause gastritis, especially those related to lifestyle. This study aims to determine and analyze the relationship between diet and coffee consumption with the incidence of gastritis in people visiting the Wonoayu Community Health Center. This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive correlation design and a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were patients diagnosed with gastritis at the Wonoayu Community Health Center, with a sample of 63 respondents taken using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection instruments were questionnaires and medical record data. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a diet in the adequate category (63.5%) and coffee consumption in the moderate category (42.9%). The results of the chi-square statistical test showed a significant association between diet and the incidence of gastritis (p = 0.000) and between coffee consumption and the incidence of gastritis (p = 0.000). These findings support previous theories and research suggesting that poor diet and excessive coffee consumption can trigger increased stomach acid production, thereby increasing the risk of irritation of the gastric mucosa and the development of gastritis.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major concern in the field of public health, with the incidence rate continuously increasing over time in Indonesia, including within the working area of Wonoayu Public Health Center, Sidoarjo Regency. Risk factors such as Body Mass Index (BMI) outside the normal range and high cholesterol levels are known to contribute to the occurrence of hypertension. This study was conducted to examine the correlation between BMI and cholesterol levels with the incidence of hypertension. This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The total sample consisted of 46 respondents, selected using the total sampling technique. Data were obtained through direct measurement and interviews, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents had obese BMI status (28.3%) and high cholesterol levels (41.3%). The most common hypertension levels were hypertensive crisis (33%) and stage 1 hypertension (28%). After data analysis using the Chi-Square test, a significant correlation was found between BMI and the incidence of hypertension (p = 0.018) as well as between cholesterol levels and the incidence of hypertension (p = 0.002).An increase in BMI and cholesterol levels is directly proportional to the degree of hypertension. Fat accumulation and atherosclerotic plaque formation can worsen blood pressure regulation. Therefore, health education regarding weight control and cholesterol management needs to be enhanced as a preventive effort against hypertension.
