Abstract

Knowledge of first aid for drowning victims among communities near water attractions is essential to improve the success of assistance, especially for tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis). Proper first aid knowledge is necessary to the reduce mortality and morbidity of accident victims, as the level of knowledge will affect the handling techniques for accident victims before they are taken to the hospital. However, currently, very little education is provided to the community as first responders at the scene. Therefore, the PPK ORMAWA BEM STRADA INDONESIA team conducted training on first aid for drowning victims for Pokdarwis and the community around Sumber Complang, Pranggang Village, to increase awareness and success when assistting. This activity aims to determine the relationship between increased knowledge of Pranggang Village Pokdarwis and helping drowning victims using the simulation method. The results obtained show a p-value of 0.004. Since 0.004 is less than < 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a difference in respondents' abilities before and after training. An effective simulation method can easily teach someone to understand new knowledge. These results indicate that the simulation method is very effective in training lay people to perform first aid for drowning victims.

Abstract

One of the main causes of low exclusive breastfeeding is the lack of knowledge of mothers about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. Many mothers do not fully understand the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and prefer to give formula milk, even though exclusive breastfeeding is the best choice for babies. Not a few mothers also find it difficult to provide exclusive breastfeeding, either because of medical problems, work, or ignorance about the right way to breastfeed. The aim of this community service is to optimize breastfeeding knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding to increase the success of breastfeeding and improve the baby's health status. This activity was carried out by providing counseling on exclusive breastfeeding by providing a Pre-Test before being given counseling and a post-test after being given counseling. Then conducting a demonstration of how to breastfeed properly and correctly. This counseling was carried out at the Al Kautsar Clinic, Setro Village, Prambon Sidoarjo which was attended by 20 breastfeeding mothers. The results before being given counseling were 8 participants (40%) with Good knowledge and after the activity there was an increase to 15 participants (75%) with Good knowledge. It is hoped that more emphasis will be placed on providing exclusive breastfeeding to increase the success of breastfeeding and improve the health of babies.

Abstract

Obesity represents a significant public health challenge, particularly in Indonesia. The World Health Organization reported that around 39 million children under the age of five were overweight or obese in 2020. In Indonesia, approximately 13.5% of adults aged 18 years and older are overweight, with 28.7% and 15.4% classified as obese at BMI thresholds of ≥25 and ≥27, respectively. In East Java, the prevalence of obesity among children under five increased from 5.67% in 2020 to 8% in 2021. To address this issue, a community engagement initiative was conducted at the DENKESYAH Madiun Polyclinic, East Java, which included health counseling, group exercise, distribution of an obesity prevention pocket book, and educational seminars involving internal medicine and pediatric specialists. The intervention aimed to raise parental and community awareness regarding the risks of childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyle practices. Statistical analysis using SPSS revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = -5.361, p = 0.000), confirming the effectiveness of the intervention in improving participants’ understanding of obesity. These findings emphasize the importance of community-based interventions in combating childhood obesity and promoting healthier lifestyles among children, and they may serve as a reference model for preventive healthcare programs in similar settings

Abstract

The development of hospitals in Indonesia has been increasing rapidly in recent years. Along with the increasing number of hospitals each year, the amount of medical waste produced also rises. If medical waste is not managed properly, this condition will increase the potential for hospital waste to pollute the environment, spread diseases, and cause occupational accident. The solid waste management process at RSKK includes sorting and containment, transportation, storage, and management. This study aims to identify the solid waste management system, both medical and non-medical, at Kediri General Hospital. The methods used are the fishbone diagram, Urgency, Seriousness, Growth (USG) method, and analyzed by Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat (SWOT). Based on the assessment results, the problem determination related to the medical and non-medical solid waste management system at Kediri General Hospital was obtained. Proposed solutions to address these issues include maximizing storage in the non-medical waste Temporary Storage Site (TPS) to be stored or contained separately according to the type, as well as the need for a waste bank for non-medical solid waste management, providing training for management officers and operators to obtain a competency certificate for hazardous and toxic waste management, and increasing human resources for hospital waste management. This research specifically examines strategies for medical and non-medical solid waste management systems and identifies solutions to these problems.

Abstract

Office employees who work with computers typically spend prolonged periods—approximately 8 hours per day from morning until evening, five consecutive days a week (Monday to Friday) characterized by static working postures and limited physical activity. Musculoskeletal problems such as complaints of neck, shoulder, back and knee pain are often found by RSUD Kabupaten Kediri employees. This condition can cause musculoskeletal disorders, which can significantly reduce work productivity. Therefore, a residency is conducted to develop community-based physiotherapy services. An analysis was conducted, followed by the implementation of solutions through awareness campaigns, educational sessions, and the distribution of brochures discussing ergonomic posture, musculoskeletal pain, and prevention and management strategies. The study was carried out for one month and involved 10 respondents who met the inclusion criteria using purposive sampling. Research instruments included the Nordic Body Map, VAS, and RULA. The Fishbone diagram, USG method, and SWOT analysis was used in this recidency.Education and socialisation have been proven effective in reducing musculoskeletal complaints among employees who work with computers at RSUD Kabupaten Kediri. Additionally, prevention and management strategies, such as self-guided stretching exercises, can alleviate musculoskeletal pain, while awareness campaigns about proper ergonomic practices when using computers are also crucial for preventing musculoskeletal issues.

Abstract

Hospital Health Promotion is an important function in health care settings that aims to empower patients, families and communities to actively participate in health maintenance and improve well-being. This study analyzed the implementation of Hospital Health Promotion in Simpang Lima Gumul Kediri Hospital to identify factors that influence its effectiveness and develop optimization strategies. A mixed approach was used in this study, including interviews with hospital management and staff, analysis of hospital documents, and review of relevant literature. The results showed that although the hospital has implemented various Hospital Health Promotion programs, there are several challenges that hinder its full potential, lack of training for hospital health promoters, lack of communication among staff, suboptimal program evaluation, and attitudinal barriers from some implementers that hinder the effectiveness of Hospital Health Promotion. To overcome these challenges, the management of Simpang Lima Gumul Hospital in Kediri needs to optimize its Health Promotion program through regular monitoring and evaluation. This process will be supported by a self-assessment form to simplify the evaluation and will include efforts to identify problems, strengthen human resources, develop innovative and integrated programs, utilize technology, increase collaboration with external partners, and measure program achievements for continuous improvement. Implementing this strategy is expected to increase the effectiveness of the hospital's health promotion program and contribute to better health outcomes for the community it serves.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the skills of health cadres in optimizing the coverage of early detection of non-communicable diseases using the SAKTI application at the Ngadiluwih Health Center UPTD, Kediri Regency. Non-communicable diseases have increased every year and are one of the leading causes of death, which is of national and global concern at this time. Based on the results of a preliminary study at the Ngadiluwih Health Center in 2023, it was found that the non-communicable disease control program in 2023 had not reached the target; therefore, it was necessary to strengthen the Primary Service Integration (ILP) at the Ngadiluwih Health Center, Kediri Regency. The data collection method used a questionnaire that was administered before (Pre-test) and after (post-test) the implementation of the activity. The results of the statistical analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge and skills. The average pre-test value was 6.23, and the average post-test value increased to 8.88. The significance value of the Wilcoxon Test was 0.000 (p <0.05), which indicated that the increase in knowledge and skills was statistically significant.  This increase indicates that the counseling method carried out successfully increased the knowledge and skills of cadres on the use of the SAKTI Application, and they were able to conduct independent screening in the community.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a steadily increasing global prevalence and is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, including in Indonesia. This condition creates a major health and economic burden, particularly for individuals with low to middle socioeconomic status, as it is often detected late and inadequately treated. Limited public awareness of early symptoms, modifiable risk factors, and preventive measures is a key factor contributing to delayed diagnosis and the risk of serious complications in the future. This community service program was carried out at Ngasem Community Health Center, Kediri Regency, and involved 25 participants with a history of DM. The primary objective was to enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding DM through health education using a participatory approach. Knowledge levels were assessed before and after the intervention to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational activity. The results indicated a clear improvement in participants’ understanding of the early symptoms of DM, associated risk factors, and preventive strategies. This suggests that participatory health education is an effective approach to improving public knowledge and encouraging proactive health behavior. Sustained and systematic educational interventions are therefore essential to support the prevention and control of DM at the community level.
