Abstract

Students assigned with field practice (practicum) are prone to experiencing burnout. This study focuses on Social Welfare students who are currently undertaking practicum assignments. Burnout conditions can disrupt their social functioning and impacting target groups, institutions, and universities. One factor related to burnout is social support perceived by students. However, there is still minimal research related to burnout and social support among practicum students from social departments in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to describe the relationship between social support and burnout. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive objectives. The sample in this study was all UI Social Welfare practicum students in the even semester of 2023/2024, with a final sample of 75 students. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires in June 2024. The data analyzed univariately and bivariately using Kendall's tau-b test with SPSS. Univariate analysis showed that 70.7% of students experienced moderate levels of burnout, 73.7% of students had moderate perceptions of peer social support, and 65.3% of students had moderate perceptions of social support from school supervisors. Kendall's tau-b test results indicated a significant but weak negative relationship between peer social support and burnout (T = -.334, p < 0.05) and between school supervisor social support and burnout (T = -.322, p < 0.05).

Abstract

In Southeast Asia, the cheap labor market is frequently mentioned as one of the comparative advantages that drive growth in the economy. However, this market frequently employs harmful labour practices against female workers. This study investigates the intersection of gender, labour practices, and economic advantages in the region, concentrating on the obstacles and protective measures for female workers. The key objective of this study is to examine how female workers are protected in Southeast Asia's low-wage labour markets, as well as to assess the effectiveness of these safeguards in preventing exploitation and improving working conditions. This study uses a comparative analytical approach to assess different Southeast Asian countries' policies and practices regarding female workers in the labor market. It evaluates legal frameworks, enforcement procedures and the role of international organizations to advocate workers' rights. Data is collected using qualitative methods such as examining policy documents, and journal articles, and assessing labour market statistics. The data show a considerable gap in the protection of female workers throughout Southeast Asia. While some countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam have adopted successful regulations and programmes, others have significant gaps in enforcement protection. The study emphasizes the need for stronger legal frameworks and enhanced implementation to guarantee that female workers advantage from the region's economic opportunities without being exploited or abused.

Abstract

Natural disasters in Central Sulawesi in 2018 damaged the onion and cocoa farming sectors, which are the main sources of livelihood for the local communities. Post-disaster economic recovery requires sustainable empowerment programs, such as access to capital, agricultural technology, and training to enhance farmers’ capacity. BAZNAS collaborated with PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) through SMI’s CSR program to implement an empowerment initiative for onion farmers in Guntarano Village (Tanantovea Subdistrict, Donggala Regency) and Duyu Subdistrict (Tatanga Subdistrict, Palu City), as well as cocoa farmers in Tuva Village (Gumbasa Subdistrict, Sigi Regency), areas affected by the Central Sulawesi earthquake. This study examines the sustainable recovery strategies through this empowerment program. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through documentation, interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations in the three affected areas: Guntarano, Duyu, and Tuva. The results show that the empowerment program significantly improved farmers' economic conditions, skills, social capital, and well-being, while also promoting environmentally friendly practices such as the use of organic fertilizers and waste management. Community participation, capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration were key factors in the program’s success and sustainability. This study highlights the importance of structured empowerment models, reliable field facilitators, and inclusive policy support to ensure the long-term resilience of farming communities in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a critical role in advancing societal welfare. However, while their numbers have increased, public trust remains low, as NGOs are often perceived to lack the capacity to design and evaluate programs effectively and fail to engage local stakeholders (Bodja, 2006). Previous research has predominantly focused on NGOs' roles in enhancing community participation and social networks, overlooking the importance of program management and stakeholder relations. This article examines the development of program frameworks, program organization, and the involvement of local organizations in Yayasan Nurani Dunia, an NGO that focuses on community development and dedicated to program innovation. Using a qualitative approach, this study employs in-depth interviews and direct field observations. The findings reveal that the program framework has evolved from charity-based initiatives to sustainable empowerment programs. Additionally, program organization demonstrates strong administrative management and incorporates adequate capacity-building elements. Lastly, the engagement of local organizations is reflected in social legitimacy and material and non-material support from relevant stakeholders. Yayasan Nurani Dunia exemplifies social transformation, emphasizing holistic societal change (Lewis & Kanji, 2009).

Abstract

This article aims to examine the migration policies and migrant care in the context of relations between ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Korea. As Korea is dealing with an aging population, an increase in female labour force participation, and an ultra low fertility rate, caregiving, especially for the elderly, has become a pivotal issue. Besides, the traditional nuclear family structure, which has historically served as the primary caregiver for the elderly, is also losing its prominence. In such demographic shift, migrant care workers from AMS are filling the demand for caregiving in Korea, leading to a cross-border international migration from AMS to Korea. Departing from this context, this article seeks to address two main questions: How is the condition of migrant care workers from SEA in Korea and how is the current migration regulation regarding this migrant care activities? How can ASEAN and Korea collaborate to advance migration policies and enhance migrant care within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ensuring the protection and well-being of migrants? The study found that although migrant care workers from AMS could be the supply for the lack of caregiver in Korea, they do not receive wages commensurate with the intensity of their labour. Moreover, caregiving practice is part of the secondary labour market, as described by the dual labour market theory. As Korea continues to grapple with demographic and economic challenges, the role of migrants in the care sector will remain a vital component of its social and policy landscape. Promoting a comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN member states and Korea for decent work is essential to ensuring a fair and sustainable care economy.

It also helps workers improve job engagement, cope with fatigue, and manage stress. This study examined the relationship between social support from coworkers and job stress among 90 employees at PT X. It used a quantitative method with accidental sampling for data collection. The analyses present univariate and bivariate analysis using Kendall's tau-b correlation test. It found that 73.3% of 66 respondents experience moderate job stress, and 72.2% consisting of 65 receive moderate social support from coworkers. The correlation coefficient between coworker support and work stress was -0.260. It concluded that the strength of the relationship is weak but has a negative relationship, meaning that higher coworker support is associated with lower work stress.
