Abstract

There were several aspects analyzed in this research related to the differences done by women and men in their language used in conversation. The aspects were: a) The amount of talk. b) TurnTaking. The data of this study was in form of video conversation and its transcription. There were three participants in this conversation, President Clinton, Founder and CEO of Theranos Elizabeth Holmes and Executive Chairman of the Alibaba Group Jack Ma. The first finding was about the amount of talk. It was found that Ken talk the most during the conversation, followed by Joanne and the Lenore. This finding broke the stereotype that men talk less than women. The second finding was about turn-taking. There were two kinds of turn-taking system discussed in this research (other-selection and self-selection). It turned out that Joanne had the smallest amount of other selection but had the highest amount of self-selection.

Abstract

This research was done on teachers' perceptions of the Merdeka Curriculum regarding its effectiveness, challenges, and how it can be improved. This research applied a qualitative descriptive approach to data collection through semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teachers welcome the freedom of the curriculum to ensure students' creative thinking, critical thinking, and collaboration are developed. However, ineffective implementation of these aspects is faced by some challenges such as lack of adequate training and resource limitations, coupled with inequality in school readiness. This study, therefore, calls for continuous professional development, collaboration of stakeholders, and systemic reforms to heighten the success of the curriculum. These insights are expected to help policymakers and educators in improving the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum for the development of a competent and character-driven generation.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of slang words and the word-formation processes used in Jack & Jack’s selected songs’ lyrics on Calibraska album. The researchers used descriptive qualitative method to analyse the slang types and word-formation process in the selected songs’ lyrics. The findings showed that there are two types of slang found in Jack & Jack’s selected songs in Calibraska album, which are primary slang with 46 words (73%) and secondary slang with 17 words (27%) and there are 6 word-formation processes of the slang words used which are borrowing with 3 words (5.4%), compounding with 4 words (7.8%), blending with 3 words (5.4%), clipping with 37 words (67.3%), conversion with 4 words (7.3%), acronym with 2 words (3.6%), and derivation with 1 word (1.8%). From the data analysis it showed thatprimary slang is the most dominant and clipping is the most dominant in word formation process, which is commonly found in songs.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the pragmatics speech act classification 1) What are the types of illocutionary act 2) What is the most dominant types of illocutionary act performed by the main character in the movie titled Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Here, this research used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data provide. From the data , the researcher discovered 76 utterances which is spoken by the main character that contain four out five speech act s by Searle’s theory (1969). In this study, the result shows as expressive holds the top among all speech acts types with the 28 data found (37%). The other speech act show Directive as the second position with 27 data (35%), the third is Representative with 16 data (21%), fourth is Commissive 5 (7%) data, and the last position is Declarative with 0 data (0%). Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Story Chain activities focusing to see its potential in enhancing students’ speaking performance and creativity of young learners in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. Utilizing a qualitative research approach, the data were collected through interviews and direct observations. The findings reveal that Story Chain activities significantly improve students' speaking proficiency, creativity, and confidence. Students demonstrated enhanced vocabulary usage, pronunciation, and the ability to construct coherent narratives. Additionally, the collaborative nature of the activities fostered social interaction and an inclusive classroom environment. However, challenges were identified, including difficulties faced by students with lower English proficiency and those who were initially reluctant to participate. Despite these challenges, the research underscores the effectiveness of Story Chain activities in creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. Suggestions for teachers and future researchers are to optimize the application of this method in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

The main objective of this research was to develop English material using Wordwall application for enhancing fourth grade students’ reading skill based on ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) model. This research was conducted at UPT SDN 30 Gresik, which is located at Jl. DR. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Gg. 24 Blok Manggis 1 No.5, Randuboyo, Randuagung, Gresik, East Java. This research was used research and development design. The researcher only used 2 phases, they are analysis and design phases. The result of analysis phase was the students were struggling to understand the reading text, they did not know much about unfamiliar vocabulary and felt bored when learning in the classroom. Therefore, the researcher decided to develop English material using Wordwall application. In the design phases, the researcher focused on choosing the material, designing assessments for topics and selecting course formats. It can be concluded that the developing of English material using Wordwall application can be an alternative to improve students’ reading skills. As a result, students and teachers also got benefit from this application.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the impact of using kepelan wood waste to optimize production costs and time at CV Dijawa Abadi. Furniture industry waste at CV Dijawa Abadi has become an increasing problem due to accumulating waste in storage areas. This situation occurs due to the lack of waste utilization and delays in waste collection by buyers at CV Dijawa Abadi. This study analyzes wood waste at CV Dijawa Abadi by identifying waste according to wood thickness. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through four months of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data is analyzed and compared with materials from vendors. The results indicate that utilizing kepelan wood waste can minimize furniture production costs and time. These findings serve as a reference for furniture entrepreneurs to be more creative in running their businesses by optimizing material utilization for high-quality products.
