Abstract

This classroom action research tries to improve the teaching and learning process of literature appreciation using constructivist approach. More specifically, the constructivist approach is implemented during pre-reading, whilst-reading, and post-reading. Purposively sampled, nine fifth grade students were then categorized into fast, moderate, and slow readers based on their pre-test scores. This approach proves to increase students' scores in appreciating literary works.

Abstract

 Perguruan tinggi sebagai pusat pengembangan ilmu sangat menentukan kemajuan bangsa. Keberhasilan pembinaan perguruan tinggi sebagai pusat ilmiah merupakan modal dan embrio menuju masyarakat industri maju. Pengembangannya harus senantiasa bertumpu pada dasar filsafat hidup bangsa agar tidak lepas dari realitas dan idealitas kehidupan. Pancasila sebagai filsafat hidup bangsa Indonesia perlu diderivasikan ke dalam kehidupan ilmiah di perguruan tinggi agar dapat fungsional dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan kuantitas perkembangan ilmu di Indonesia.

Abstract

Mathematic object consists of facts, concepts, principles and operations, which are the major of instructional material to improve students' transferable competence. The discussed problem is whether mathematic objects in textbook have been presented correctly. To answer this question, the writer uses content analysis. The analysis technique applied is the analysis among books using interactive model. The result of this research shows that the five analyzed books (TS, EL, PB, PR, and YT) have errors in presenting mathematic objects.

Abstract

Developing Learners Group through Package B. This action research aimed at developing a program that would involve learners in the learning activities of Package B until they finished the program, which is equal to junior high school, and that would develop learners’ creativity and personality. The study was intended for three years, starting from 1996. However, it was conducted yearly in accordance with the research fund. In 1996’1997, Package B developed a program which make learners engaged in the learning activities. The program was projected to help them finish the package for three years to get an academic qualification equal to junior high school. In addition, it helped them develop their creativity and personality through making educational toys and printing.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the stages of students’ cognitive development, the relationship between cognitive stages and students’ mastery of science concepts, the differences in science concepts among the cognitive stages, and the differences in mastery of science concepts between boys and girls. Using purposive random sampling, this study involved 115 sixth-grade students. The data were collected using tests of cognitive developmental stages and of science-concept mastery. The Pearson product moment correlations, one-way anova, and t-test were employed to analyze the data. The findings indicate that 60% of the students were at the concrete operation stages, whereas the rest were at the beginning of the formal operation stage. The study also found that there was a relationship between cognitive development and science-concept mastery, that there were differences in the mastery among cognitive developmental stages, and that there was no difference in science mastery between boys and girls.

Abstract

Skills of Questioning among Junior-high-school Teachers in Classroom Interaction. The aims of the study were to investigate the level of questioning skills among junior-high-school teachers in the teaching-learning process and to explore factors contributing to the development of questioning skills. The subjects involved were 15 teachers (10 % of the population) of Indonesian, English, and Social Studies. The data were collected through a questionnaire and observation, which were then analyzed using regression, analyses of variance, correlation, and t-test. The results show that the majority of the teachers reflect questioning skills which are of fair category and only 20% of very good category. The study also reveals that training contributes to the development of questioning skills (67.14 %).

Abstract

Correlation between the Principal's Managerial Skill and Organizational Climate and Teachers' Performance. This research was conducted to examine the correlation between the principal's managerial skill and organizational climate and teachers' performance. The sample consisted of 125 physical education teachers and principals in Kabupaten Mojokerto. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which were then analyzed statistically by regression analyses. The result indicated that there was a significant correlation between the managerial skill and organizational climate and the teachers' performance. The performance of teachers graduated from sport teacher schools was better than those graduated from non-sport schools.

Abstract

The focus of the study is to examine the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in the teaching learning process as compared to the conventional learning. Two classes of students taking Office Management course were involved, one being taught using PBL and the other using the conventional method. Two essay tests were given to the two classes, one given at the beginning of the semester and the other after four-week PBL program. The result of t-test indicates that PBL class performed significantly better, implying that PBL could better improve students' achievement in Office Management Course.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui relevansi bidang tugas pengelola program ke-PLS-an di instansi pemerintah dan swasta dengan kemampuan lulusan program S-1 PLS FIP. Penelitian ini bersifat evaluatif. Populasinya adalah instansi/lembaga yang mengembangkan program ke-PLS-an di Jawa Timur. Sampel diambil secara purposif. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi dan focus group discussion. Analisis dilakukan secara deskriptif non-statistik. Hasilnya adalah bahwa kurikulum S-1 PLS relevan dengan bidang tugas pengelola program ke-PLS-an di instansi pemerintah dan swasta, dan bahwa kebutuhan instansi sampai tahun 2000 terhadap lulusan S-1 PLS di Jawa Timur baru tercukupi sesudah tahun 2010.

Abstract

This study was aimed at developing a battery of high school student alienation called SASSM (Skala Alienasi Siswa Sekolah Menengah). It refered to pooling items, searching the dimensions, the characteristics, and the reliability of the dimensions. The data were collected through discussion, literature review, Q-sorting, and questionnaire. The 100 pooled items were identified. The exploratory factor analysis extracted 7 dimensions consisted of 47 items. By using confirmatory factor analysis, the same dimensions and items were confirmed. These dimensions were task powerlessness, social powerlessness, meaninglessness, self-estrangement, value isolation, lovelessness, and joylessness.
