Abstract

This study aimed at describing the implementation of Writing Process Approach in an informal classroom of fourth and fifth graders of Barrington Elementary School in Columbus, United States. The data were gathered from five-week observation. The results showed that (1) students were provided with regular, abundant opportunity to write, (2) students were free to choose their own topics with the general theme that the teacher set, (3) there were student-student conferences, student-teacher conferences, and whole-class conferences which allowed the teacher and also the peer to scaffold students in their meaning-making process, (4) language was taught out of students’ individual and whole class writing contexts, (5) students were surrounded by rich literature, (6) the implementation of the writing process did not follow a linear predetermined, rigid stages, but was based on students’ individual characteristics.

Abstract

This study was intended to investigate the influence of sex education and assertion training toward teenagers’ attitude toward pre-marital sex. Pretest-posttest control groups weere employed. Subjects consisted of 32 teenagers who were divided into three groups. The first group consisting of 11 students were given sex education, the second group consisting of 11 students were given assertion training, and the last group, the control or waiting list group, consists of 10 people. Data were analysed using one way analysis of variance and this was supported with individual data analysis. The study found that there was highly significant influence of sex education toward teenagers’ attitude toward pre marital sex; and assertion training did not contribute to teenagers’ attitude toward pre marital sex although score of pre test and post test was different. This led to the conclusion that sex education was more influential than assertion training in influencing teenagers’ attitude toward pre-marital sex.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the correlation between learners’ achievement and their motivation to attend further level of education and to get better income after graduating from Package A Study Group Program. A number of 299 graduates of Package A1-A20 Program in Bandung were involved. The results indicate that there was a significant correlation between learners’ achievement and their motivation to attend higher level of education and to get better income. It means that when learners achieved better, their motivation to continue their study and to earn better was increasing. In other words, Package A program can be used as an income generating

Abstract

Istilah pengembangan sumber daya manusia menjadi populer seiring dengan perkembangan ilmu dan teknologi. Keberadaan pengembangan sumber daya manusia dapat dilihat dari pertumbuhan organisasi dan pengembangan personalia sebagai dampak dari program itu. Karenanya, pengembangan sumber daya manusia harus dilakukan melalui lembaga atau organisasi dan dikelola secara profesional serta berorientasi kepada pertumbuhan kinerja. Dalam pengembangan sumber daya manusia terdapat kegiatan utama, yakni kegiatan belajar. Dengan demikian pengelolaan kegiatan belajar merupakan unsur penting bagi pengembangan sumber daya manusia.

Abstract

Keluarga memiliki tugas dan tanggung jawab meletakkan dasar-dasar disiplin-diri bagi anak. Disiplin-diri sangat diperlukan pada era globalisasi oleh subjek didik agar mereka memiliki kompas dan memberikan warna pada perubahan dunia yang mega cepat sehingga tidak hanyut dalam arus perubahan. Akibat tidak berdisiplin-diri antara lain adalah kumpul kebo, perkelahian remaja dan hanyut dalam arus perubahan. Ini menunjukkan betapa pentingnya disiplin-diri untuk ditanamkan dan dikembangkan kepada anak sejak usia dini.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the contribution of education level, frequency of participation in training, teaching experience, and attitudes toward teacher's profession to the elementary school teachers' competence in teaching Social Studies. The sample consisted of 160 elementary school teachers in Kedungkandang, Malang. Data were collected by using observation, questionnaire, and interview, and were analyzed statistically with multiple regression. This study revealed that the teachers' competence tended to be high. The contribution of teachers' participation in on-the-job training to the competence in teaching social studies was higher than the contribution of education level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjajaki sosok kebutuhan profesional guru SD dalam rangka peningkatan mutu pengelolaan pengajaran. Dengan survei, pengumpulan data dilakukan atas sampel purposif yang diambil dari sembilan Dati II di Jawa Timur. Data dianalisis dengan analisis isi. Ditemukan bahwa kebutuhan profesional guru SD meliputi kebutuhan ideal (normatif), kebutuhan teramati, serta kebutuhan terekspresi dan relatif, mulai dari kebutuhan yang mendasar yaitu pemahaman tujuan pendidikan nasional sampai dengan yang sangat teknis, misalnya latihan penyusunan butir-butir tes. Pemenuhan kebutuhan profesional guru SD akan berhasil apabila terdapat kerjasama Depdikbud, Dinas P dan K, kelompok kerja guru, dan PGSD/LPTK terdekat.

Abstract

This study was intended to describe a learning model for comprehension reading in elementary school. The model implemented was problem solving strategy with IDEAL technique. The result showed that the teacher could activate students’ schemata, students could predict the content of the reading passages, identify problems and topics, explain the topics discussed, and find ideas and effect in the reading passages.

Abstract

Independent learning is an alternative way in developing quality of human resources. It acknowledges children’s individual potentials and nature as human beings. Commonly implemented in laboratory schools, independent learning is developed on the basis of studies of educational theories and practices. It can be gradually and continously developed in elementary as well as secondary education. In short, such an alternative of learning types is worth considering in the pursuit of an active and effective teaching-learning process.

Abstract

The aims of the study were to examine the effects of various learning strategies, that is, using examples, non-examples, or text-books, on the outcomes of learning social science. Pretest and post test were assigned to the subjects, 129 fifth graders, who had been devided, in three groups. Multiple comparisons of the three groups indicate that the subjects taught using examples and non-examples out performed those taught using textbooks.
