Abstract

Feed is one of the critical factors for the success of livestock production because it contributes 70-80% of production costs. High protein feed ingredients are expensive, so it is necessary to use non conventional feed. Golden snail are pests that interfere to rice growth in agricultural areas, one of which is in North Tapanuli Regency. Golden snail have a high protein content so they are very efficient to use as a source of protein feed. In this study, golden snail in the form of flour was used as a substitute for fish meal in laying quail rations. The research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely P0 = 8% fish meal, P1 = 4% GSF, P2 = 8% GSF, P3 = 12% GSF with 5 replications. The research parameters were feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, feed conversion and over feed cost income. The results showed a significant effect of P2 on egg production as much as 31.71% and income over feed cost IDR 2602.15/ head compare to other treatments of quail eggs. However, giving GSF did not show a significant effect on egg weight, feed consumption and ration conversion. The results showed that the use of GSF was suitable as a substitute for fish meal on quail feed an application of 8% GSF for quail feed was a novelty finding.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain information on the influence of age differences on the growth of Bali cattle that are traditionally reared in cages. The number of cattle used were 9 heads. During the study, individual cages were used. This study had a randomized block design with three ranges of body weight as a group. The treatment in this study was the difference in the age of cattle, which consisted of cattle aged 1 year (I1), age 2 years (I2) and 3 years (I3). The results showed that the difference in the age of the cattle had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the dry matter consumption of feed, daily body weight gain and the conversion of Bali cattle feed traditionally reared in pens. However, there is a tendency that cattle aged 1 year have better growth and efficiency in using feed than cattle aged 2 and 3 years. It can be concluded that raising cattle at 1 year of age results in more efficient growth than cattle at 2 and 3 years. However, further testing needs to be done with a higher number of cattle and a wider range of body weight.

Abstract

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a gram negative bacteria that can reduce the quality of meat and cause diarrhea if the amount is too much.This study aims to investigate the presence of E. coli  contamination in chicken meat sell in traditional markets in Medan. This research was conducted using the perposive sampling method and collect samples from 30% of each nine traditional markets with a total of 32 samples. The traditional markets in Medan, namely Petisah, Central, Sei kambing, Kampung Lalang, Kwala Bekala, Helvetia, Kampung Baru, Kemiri and Padang Bulan. Reserch were conducted by using the CFU / ml method with chromocult media. Samples were analyzed  in the laboratory of the Regional Veterinary Disease Investigation Center Region 1 Medan. The results showed 32 samples of chicken meat had exceeded the maximum limit of microbial contamination. The highest total microbial average was in the Kampung Lalang market 3.49 Log CFU / g, and the lowest was in the Kemiri market of 2.79 Log CFU / g. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the meat in the traditional markets of Medan was all contaminated with E. coli and had passed the maximum limit of bacterial contamination.

Abstract

The need for rabbit pellets is increasing along with the increasing maintenance of rabbits in North Sumatra. This study aims to determine the feed consumption (FC), avarage daily gain (ADG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR), of male local rabbits given fermented kepok banana peel (KBP) pellets. The fermentation used in this study was using local microorganisms based on KBP. This research was conducted by Dr. Hamza No. 5 North Sumatra Province from October 2020 to December 2020.The research design was used a randomized block design (RBD) with 3 treatments, 3 groups and each group consisted of 3 rabbits so that 27 male local rabbits were obtained. The treatments were P0 = 40% KBP without fermentation in pellets, P1 = 40% fermented KBP in pellets and P2 = 60% fermented KBP in pellets. Determination of groups based on body weight with the following groupings: K1: 418 g - 458 g, K2: 459 g - 499 g, and K3: 500 g - 540 g.The results of P0, P1 and P2 showed that the value of FC (g / head / day) were 83.76; 84.58; and 86.83 respectively. TheADG value (g / head / day) were 11.47; 12.79; and 15.01 respectively. The FCR value were 7.45; 6.78; and 5.93 respectively. The conclusion shows that the utilization of fermented KBP up to a level of 60% in the pellets is more efficient to use to increase Feed Consumption, Average Daily Gain, Income OverFeed Cost and reduce Feed Convertion Ratio of male local rabbits.

Abstract

Kampong chicken has great potential to be developed into superior breed in an effort to support food security and improve farmer welfare. This study aims to determine the effect of adding lactose to free-range chicken semen macroscopically and microscopically. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of the Center for Artificial Insemination at the Food Security and Animal Husbandry Service of North Sumatra Province in October 2020 - January 2021. This study used a Randomized Block Design method with treatment P0 ( Semen control) P1 (Semen with Ringers diluent), P2 (Semen with diluent lactose), P3 (Semen with Ringers diluent + Lactose), macroscopic test and parameters include color, volume, concentration and pH of semen. To determine the quality of spermatozoa can be seen from the motility test, abnormality and viability. The results showed that the use of Ringer + lactose diluent in chicken semen stored for 8 hours at 40C during the study had a very significant effect on spermatozoa motility with values: P0 (52.88% a), P1 (21.64% bc). P2 (31.39% b), P3 (19.57% c) respectively and had no significant effect on abnormalities of spermatozoa with values: P0 (6.59% tn), P1 (6.11% tn), P2 (7, 36% tn), P3 (4.4% tn) respectively. As conclusions that the use of ringers + lactose diluent can work well to defend spermatozoa from damage to cell membranes resulting from the elements contained in ringers and lactose solutions which can be used as an energy source when the semen is cold shock during the storage period

Abstract

Good quality animal feed was a determining factor for the success of livestock industry. Maggot BSF had the potential as a promising protein source feed. The aimed of this researceh was to investigate digestibility of crude protein, dry matter, organic matter of BSF maggot flour. The maggot was kept in media of fermented palm oil coir (FPOC) with dose of fermenter 1, 3, 5%. The maggot processed into flour and fed to kampong chickens. The reseach was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were: M0 (fish meal), M1 (Maggot FPOC 1%), M2 (maggot FPOC 3%) and M3 (maggot FPOC 5%). Based on the results of the study, it was found that BSF had a significant effect (P <0.05) on protein digestibility (M0 = 75.70, M1 = 63.03, M2 = 73.32, and M3 = 56.24), a very significant effect (P <0.01) on the digestibility of dry matter (M0 = 64.72, M1 = 44.08, M2 = 44.26, and M3 = 37.43), and the digestibility of organic matter (M0 = 68.59, M1 = 45, 32, M2 = 48.08, and M3 = 47.47). Maggot flour from FPOC 3% produced good crude protein digestibility in kampong chicken compared to FPOC 1% and 3% .

Abstract

Business productivity at the farm level is still low when compared to commercial businesses both in terms of business management, quality and quantity of production.This study aims to analyze financial aspects of laying ducks on community farms. The research was conducted in Air Batu Subdistrict, Asahan Regency in June until August 2020. The samples were determined by stratified sampling, namely dividing three business scales based on the number of livestock ownership, i.esmall-scale business (150-340 ducks), medium scale business (350- 500 ducks) and the highest scale business (550-800 ducks) with the number of respondents per business scale of 3 breeders. Parameters were production cost, income. revenue, R/C, BEP, Net B/C, Gross B/C, NPV, IRR, and PP. The results of the study showed that the average income per period per business scale was Rp. 32.792.167, - Rp. 112.390.667, - and Rp. 207.431.867. R / C value> 1, the value of BEP production is smaller than the amount of egg production, BEP price is smaller than the selling price of eggs per egg, the value of Net B / C and Gross B / C> 1, the NPV value> 0 or positive, the IRR value with an interest rate of 16.75%, respectively, is 26%, 27% and 27% greater than the interest rate and PP, respectively 4,3,2 months before the project age (5 years).

Abstract

KBP is a waste from processing of Kepok banana which has not been used optimally because it has low nutritional content. One way to improve nutritional quality of KBP by fermentated process. This study aims to examine the nutritional content of fermented KBP with various doses of MOL and fermentation time. The research was conducted by using an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 x 3 factorial pattern and 3 replications. The first factor was various doses (D1 = 1%; D2 = 3%; D3 = 5%) and second factor was fermentation time (L1 = 3 days; L2 = 5 days; L3 = 7 days). The variables observed were moisture and dry matter content, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, ash, and BETN. The results showed that fermentation of KBP using various doses of MOL had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on moisture content, dry matter, crude protein, ash, but had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on crude fiber, crude fat and BETN. Fermentation time had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on moisture content, dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, and BETN, but had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on ash content. There was an interaction between MOL dose and fermentation time on BETN levels but there was no interaction between MOL dose and fermentation time on moisture content, dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat and ash. The conclusion of this research is fermentation of KBP using MOL up to 5% increased dry matter content, crude protein, and decreased moisture content and ash content.

Abstract

Eco Enzymes (EE) is one of the products of fermentation that comes from fruits and vegetables wastes. Enzymes and organic acid in Eco Enzymes has a positif effect on plant growth. This study aims to investigate dilution of Eco Enzymes and its application to improve the growth of Turi plants. This research used the completely randomized design method (CRD). The treatments consisted of P1 (1:300), P2 (1:200), dan P3 (1:100), and there were 5 replications. Parameters were plant height, stem diameter, number of branches, number of leaves and leaf width. The results of this research were that 1:100 dilution treatment had significant effect (p<0,05) on the the parameters of plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and leaf width. However there was no significant effect on the number of branches. The best response to Eco Enzymes was 1: 100 dilution.

Abstract

KembangTelang plant is a legume that contains high protein for animal feed.This research aim to investigate the effect of giving Eco Enzymes (EE) at different concentration on the growth and production of KembangTelang plant (Clitoria ternatea L.) and it was conducted at the Compost Center, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra from October to December 2020. Research design was used a completely randomized design with two factors, namely Eco Enzymes concentration and watering application using plant infusion which was regulated by dropping rate. There were 3 treatments and 3 replications. The first factor were the concentration of Eco Enzymes, i. e K1=1% , K2=0,5%, K3=0,33%. The second factor were watering with a plant infusion system or a regulated dropping rate, T1= slow drop, T2= medium drop, and T3= quick drop. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem diameter, leaf width, production of fresh matter and production of dry matter.The results showed that the concentration of Eco EnzymesK1 1% gives a very real effect (P< 0.01) on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, and production of fresh matter, while on the parameters of stem diameter gives a real influence (P<0.05), and gives an unreal influence (P>0.05) on the parameters of leaf width, dry matter production and the use of plant infusion. The best response of Eco Enzymes administration was of 1% concentration.
