Abstract

Mix pasture contains more complete nutrition for animal feed. This study aims to determine the effect of giving sheep feces compost with different fertilization doses and intervals on the productivity of mixed pastures (Clitoria ternatea and Brachiaria ruziziensis). This research was conducted in Kotangan Village, Kec. Galang, Kab. Deli Serdang North Sumatra from September to November 2020. The experimental design was used a split-plot design with two treatment factors and three replications. Factor I is the main plot, namely the fertilization interval: N1 = once every four weeks and N2 = once every two weeks. Factor II as a subplot which were doses of compost : P0 = control (without compost), P1 = compost 1 kg/plot (10 t/h), P 2 = compost 2 kg/plot (20 t/h) and P3 = compost 3 kg/plot (30t/h).The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, number of branches, fresh production, dry matter, crude protein, and crude fiber. The results showed that sheep feces compost doses and different time intervals for fertilization had a significant effect (P<0,05 ) on the number of leaves and tillers of Brachiaria ruziziensis, crude protein, and coarse fiber of mixed pasture. There was no significant effect (P>0,05) on plant height, the number of leaves and number of branches of Clitoria ternatea, the height of Brachiaria ruziziensisas, and fresh and dry mixed pasture production. The appropriate fertilization interval was once every two weeks, and the best fertilizer dose was 3 kg/plot (30 t/h).

Abstract

Pork consumers prefer it because it has a unique taste. This study aims to determine the factors that influence meat pork consumer behavior and determine the potential segmentation of consumers in traditional markets. The study was conducted in the traditional markets of Pematangsiantar City, namely Horas and Dwikora Parluasan traditional market. It lasted from September 2020 until November 2020. In this study, primary data was obtained from observations and interviews with 70 consumers of meat pork buyers in traditional markets. Secondary data were obtained from related agencies such as the Central Bureau of Statistics and Animal Husbandary Department. The results showed that the characteristics of consumers influenced the potential segment of consumers in meat pork purchasing decisions. The variables of quality and number of families show a relationship of partial influence with the amount of consumption in the analysis of consumer behavior. However, the variables of age, occupation, education, income, and price of pork do not show a partial relationship with consumption.

Abstract

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a gram-negative bacteria that can reduce meat quality and cause diarrhea if the amount is too much. This study investigates the presence of E. coli contamination in chicken meat sold in traditional markets in Medan. This research was conducted using the purposive sampling method and collected samples from 30% of each nine traditional markets with 32 samples. The traditional markets in Medan, namely Petisah, Central, Sei Kambing, Kampung Lalang, Kwala Bekala, Helvetia, Kampung Baru, Kemiri and Padang Bulan. Research was conducted by using the CFU / ml method with chromocult media. Samples were analyzed in the laboratory of the Regional Veterinary Disease Investigation Center Region 1 Medan. The results showed 32 samples of chicken meat had exceeded the maximum limit of microbial contamination. The highest total microbial average was in the Kampung Lalang market, 3.49 Log CFU / g, and the lowest was in the Kemiri market of 2.79 Log CFU / g. Based on the research results, it was found that the meat in the traditional markets of Medan was all contaminated with E. coli and had passed the maximum limit of bacterial contamination.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain information on the influence of age differences on the growth of Bali cattle that are traditionally reared in cages. The number of cattle used was nine heads. During the study, individual cages were used. This study had a randomized block design with three ranges of body weight as a group. The treatment in this study was the difference in the age of cattle, which consisted of cattle aged one year (I1), age two years (I2), and three years (I3). The results showed that the difference in the age of the cattle had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the dry matter consumption of feed, daily body weight gain, and the conversion of Bali cattle feed traditionally reared in pens. However, there is a tendency that cattle aged one year have better growth and efficiency in using feed than cattle aged 2 and 3 years. It can be concluded that raising cattle at one year of age results in more efficient growth than cattle at 2 and 3 years. However, further testing needs to be done with more cattle and a more comprehensive range of body weight.

Abstract

The demand for kampung chicken meat has increased due to awareness to consume organic chicken meat. This research aims to find out the factors that influence the demand for chicken meat in Sidikalang City. This research was conducted in Sidikalang City from May until June 2021 with primary data processing. The research method used is multiple regression analysis and deliberate sampling. The results showed that the demand for chicken meat in Sidikalang city was influenced simultaneously by the price of chicken meat, the price of broiler chicken meat, family income, age, number of family members, education level and taste level. As conlusion that a significant influence on the demand for chicken meat is the family income with a confidence level of 95%.

Abstract

Consumption of chicken meat is very accepted by consumers compare to other kind of meat. The purpose of the study was to find out the factors that influence the demand for broiler chicken meat in Gunungsitoli city. The research was conducted from May until June 2021 using primary data. The method used in sampling is interviewing respondents with purpossive sampling (intentionally) and in analysis with Multiple Linear Regression using SPSS 24 application tool. The results showed that the demand for broiler chicken meat in Gunungsitoli city was influenced simultaneously by the price of broiler chicken meat, age, number of family members, income level, fish price, taste level, and education level with R²=0.606. The price of broiler chicken meat, income level and taste level have a noticeable effect on the confidence level of 95%.

Abstract

Innovations in milk processing include making it into fresh cheese using local coagulant.  This study aims to determine the effect of papain enzyme levels on the coagulation process of milk formaking fresh cheese. This research method used a 4 x 4 factorial completely randomized design with 2 replications of factor A giving papain enzyme levels, namely A0 = 0.2 g (using commercial rennet), A1 = 0.1 g papain enzyme rennet, A2 = 0.2 g papain enzyme rennet, A3 = 0.3 g papain enzyme rennet, and factor B storage time B0 = 0 days B1 = 5 days B2 = 10 days and B3 = 15 days. The variables measured were organoleptic tests including color, aroma, and preference. Based on the results of the study, it was found that from the addition of four levels of papain enzyme used and four variations of storage time, the administration of papain enzyme 0.3 g (A3) and storage time of 15 days (B3) was the optimal treatment to increase color, aroma, and preference for cheese and can be used as an alternative to the use of rennet

Abstract

Deli Serdang Regency is one of the largest sheep-producing areas in North Sumatra Province. Analysis of the potential for sheep development in the area needs to be done, to achieve various goals. This study aims to identify livestock resources, base or non-base areas and sheep capacity as well as to find the right strategy for the development of a sheep business in Deli Serdang Regency. The method used in this research is the stratified sampling method in all districts in Deli Serdang Regency and purposive sampling method in three districts, namely, Percut Sei Tuan, Hamparan Perak, and Galang as a method of determining the area. Interviews with 10 breeders from each sub-district were conducted to gather information related to sheep farming in the area. Data analysis was performed with descriptive analysis, location quation (LQ), animal density, analysis of feed concentration index , and capacity analysis for Livestock Population Increase (LPIC). The results showed that the livestock resources in Deli Serdang Regency have the potential to develop sheep farming businesses. There are 13 districts which are base areas with a capacity of livestock unit.

Abstract

Siborongborong is the first region that produces the largest kampung chicken with an average population of 83,349 heads.This study aims to identify the characteristics of kampung chicken marketing institutions and marketing channels, analyze marketing margins, farmer's share, profit ratio, and marketing costs for kampung chicken, as well as analyze the marketing efficiency of kampung chicken in Siborongborong. The method used in data collection is snowball sampling, while data collection in this study is primary data and secondary data. Primary data was collected through interviews using questionnaires and direct observation of farmers, middlemen and consumers. While secondary data is obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and other agencies related to research as well as from literature, books, or journals that can be used as references to support primary data during research. The results of this study indicated that two marketing institutions are involved, namely breeders and traders. There are two marketing channels, namely the first channel: farmers - retailers - consumers and the second channel: farmers - collectors/agents - retailers - consumers. Marketing analysis can be seen from several calculations, namely, the margin share where in this analysis channel II (IDR. 21,000) is greater than channel I (IDR. 15,000). Farmer's Share channel 1 (77.09%) is greater than channel II (67.69%). In channel II (3.79) profit ratio is greater than channel I (1.82) and in channel II marketing costs (IDR.7.613/kg/month) is greater than channel I (IDR. 5.304/kg/month). The marketing efficiency of kampung chicken is seen from its marketing efficiency, each channel has been efficient with a value between 0-33%.

Abstract

Gambier leaf extract is a latex extract from the leaves of the gambier plant and contains catechin compounds that act as antimicrobials. In order to increase the shelf life and minimize the use of synthetic chicken meat preservatives, this study was carried out with the aim of knowing the administration of gambir leaf extract (Uncaria gambir Roxb) as a chicken meat preservative. This study used a factorial 3 x 5 completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 replications. Factor I is various doses of gambir leaf extract, namely E1 (1% gambier leaf extract with aquadest solvent), E2 (1% gambier leaf extract with Castrol oil, tween and aquadest solvents), E3 (2% gambier leaf extract with Castrol oil solvent, tween and aquadest) and Factor II is the length of fermentation (1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days and 5 days). Variables observed included air content (highest yield at concentration E2 = 77.56), Ph (highest yield at concentration E2 = 5.57), and total microbes (highest yield at concentration E = 7.73 CFU/g). The results showed that the dose of gambier leaf extract had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the water content and pH of chicken meat, but had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the total microbial meat. Storage time had no significant effect (P>0.05) on water content, pH and the number of microbes in chicken meat. There was no interaction between the dose of gambier leaf extract and storage time.
