Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem that affects the physical fitness, cognitive function, and academic performance of adolescents. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia in adolescents is still relatively high. One of the factors contributing to this condition is the lack of physical activity that could potentially support the increase of hemoglobin levels. This study aims to observe if there is a significant effect of morning walking activity on the hemoglobin levels of adolescents with anemia at Al-Amanah Cileunyi Junior High School. This study used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental approach and a one-group pre-test and post-test design. A sample of 30 people was selected using a purposive sampling technique from a population of 57 students in class VIII based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Interventions in the form of morning walking activities were held twice a week for three weeks. Measurement of hemoglobin levels was collected before and after the intervention using the EasyTouch GCHb digital device. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test. There was a significant increase in hemoglobin levels after the intervention (P < 0.05), and there was a significant difference between male and female. Morning walking has a positive effect on increasing the hemoglobin level of adolescents with anemia. It is recommended that this activity be implemented as a promotive and preventive strategy in the school environment.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of effriction massage in reducing pain and increasing range of motion (ROM) in patients with knee injuries based on the duration of injury. Using a prospective controlled clinical trial involving 20 participants aged 20 to 40 years, participants were grouped into two groups: acute (10 days) and chronic (1 month) injuries. The effriction massage intervention was performed for 15 minutes, and outcomes were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain and the goniometer for ROM. Results showed significant pain reduction in both groups, with the chronic group obtaining a greater reduction (58.33%) than the acute group (44.44%). However, the increase in ROM showed significant variation, with the chronic group increasing ROM by 21.64%, while the acute group increased by 21.02%. Analysis showed that duration of injury had no significant effect on pain (p=0.334), but did affect ROM (p=0.035). These findings confirm the importance of early intervention and the implementation of rehabilitation tailored to the chronicity of the injury, opening up opportunities for developing more individualized therapy guidelines. This study recommends the integration of additional modalities for longer injury cases to improve rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract

Water polo is a sport that involves significant physical contact between players. This sometimes makes it difficult for athletes to control their emotions in the game. As a result, athletes often take actions that are detrimental to themselves, the team, and even the opponent.  This problem ultimately results in athletes not being able to achieve their best performance. Therefore, good self-control is needed in this sport. Emotional intelligence allows athletes to manage emotions well. This research aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-control in water polo athletes. The Descriptive method with a quantitative approach was used in the study involving 20 water polo athletes from Club Tirtamerta Bandung. The instruments used in this study were a trait emotional intelligence questionnaire short form of (TEIQUE-SF) and a brief self-control scale (BSCS) given once to the sample. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-control in water polo athletes. This is indicated by a large correlation between variables of 0.023 (p <0.050), which means emotional intelligence and self-control have a strong relationship. This study concludes that emotional intelligence has a significant relationship with self-control in water polo athletes, with that the hypothesis that has been proposed is accepted and stated that there is a significant positive relationship between the two variables. Thus it is recommended to focus more attention on the emotional intelligence of athletes during the training stage so that it is expected that the level of self-control in water polo athletes will also increase.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of knowledge, utilization patterns, strategies, and obstacles of Physical Education teachers in utilizing the surrounding environment as a learning resource in junior high schools in Martapura City. The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive design, involving all Physical Education teachers in junior high schools in Martapura City totaling 12 teachers through a total sampling technique. The main research instrument was a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale consisting of 13 questions regarding knowledge and frequency and 9 supporting questions regarding strategies and obstacles to environmental utilization. The results showed that the majority of Physical Education teachers had knowledge in the low category (42%), while the frequency of environmental utilization was dominated by the moderate category (50%). The combined tabulation of knowledge and frequency also showed that (42%) of teachers were in the moderate category. The most common utilization strategy was the use of school fields (70%), followed by the surrounding natural environment (27%), while public sports facilities and city parks were rarely utilized. The main obstacles faced included limited space, weather, student safety, distance, cost, and accessibility of facilities. The conclusion of this study shows that the use of the surrounding environment as a source of learning physical education in junior high schools in Martapura City is still not optimal, so it is necessary to increase training, mentoring, and development of facilities so that physical education learning becomes more innovative, effective, and contextual.
