Abstract

Learning is a process of educational interaction that occurs between teachers and students, and one of the components that determines its success is learning media. Using appropriate media in learning activities is one way to achieve the learning objectives you want to achieve. The diversity of upakara plants can be used as a natural learning medium in conveying plant biodiversity material in biology learning at school. The use of upakara plants as a learning medium can provide direct experience to students, giving a complete and meaningful impression of various plant variations based on characteristics that can be observed by involving all the five senses. Students not only receive information, but are actively involved in exploring, seeking and discovering new experiences to be able to construct their own knowledge. Therefore, the use of upakara plants found in the surrounding environment acts as a natural medium that can help develop all students' potential in understanding and recognizing the types of plants in nature. Apart from that, students are also able to apply their understanding of the importance of plant biodiversity, as well as apply the principles of grouping living things (taxonomy) based on observable characteristics, so as to facilitate learning activities, especially on plant biodiversity material.

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that has a variety of soil types, types of climate, both macro and micro climates and other environmental factors, causing Indonesia to have a diversity of biological resources arranged in a high diversity of ecosystems, both natural and artificial ecosystems. Agriculture is an artificial ecosystem that functions to support the lives of farmers socio-economically. An agricultural ecosystem that is less stable will result in a decline in agricultural production and a decline in the health of people who consume agricultural products as the main food ingredient. In agricultural cultivation, controlling pests and plant diseases is absolutely necessary to increase agricultural yields. Vegetable pesticides are pesticides whose active ingredients come from plants or plants and other organic materials which are effective in controlling pest attacks and plant diseases. The ingredients for these vegetable pesticides are sourced from various types of existing plants. The active compounds in these botanical pesticides are biodegradable so they are safe for the health of the environment and consumers.

Abstract

Bali starling (Leucopsar rothschildi) is one of the endemic species of Bali and the typical Indonesian animal whose natural distribution is only found in the Bali Barat National Park. The number of Bali starlings in nature is few and are classified as rare or endangered animals. This is the effect of the large number of illegal hunts in natural habitats because of high market demand and loss of forest habitat which causes the population of Bali starlings to decline rapidly. The method used in this research is library research with a qualitative descriptive approach. Based on the research results, it is known that conservation efforts for the Bali starling as a protected animal through the local wisdom of the Balinese people which is based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy have had a positive influence on the number of Bali starlings. The explanation of Tri Hita Karana is in the form of awig-awig or customary law. Community support for local wisdom is important in its implementation in a conservation-carrying capacity.

Abstract

The Hindu community in Bali is inseparable from various religious ceremonies. In every religious ritual, the community uses multiple types of upakara facilities which are seen as a symbolic communication process carried out between humans and God, for all His gifts. Upakara facilities come from biodiversity, one of which comes from plants. Plants from the Zingiberaceae family known as empon-empon plants are one of the upakara facilities used in every Yadnya ceremony. Research related to this utilization was conducted in Kedisan Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency. Based on the research results, it is known that there are 14 types of plants from the Zingiberaceae family that are used in the ceremony, namely jahe (Zingiber officinale), kunyit kuning (Curcuma domestica Val.), kencur (Kaempferia galanga), kecombrang (Etlingera elatior), temu ireng (Curcuma aeruginosa), temu lawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), temu kunci (Boesenbergia rotunda), temu giring (Curcuma heyneane), temu mangga (Curcuma amada), temu tis (Curcuma purpurascen Blume), temu gongseng (Kaempferia rotunda L.), temu agung (Curcuma aromatica), temu putih (Curcuma zedoaria Rocs.), dan lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet). The use of Zingiberaceae plants as a means of ritual is so extensive that the local community balances it with conservation efforts carried out in the yard, planted in pots, and planted as an interlude in plantation areas, fields, and on the edge of rice fields. So in this case, the use of Zingiberaceae plants as a means of ritual is a local wisdom that contains conservation values.

Abstract

Local wisdom is a learning resource rich in ecological, social, and cultural values that can be utilized in education, especially biology learning. In Bali, the use of medicinal plants by the community is not only for traditional medicine, but also part of the cultural heritage that reflects the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. This study aims to explore and integrate the potential of local medicinal plants as contextual learning resources in biology subjects at SMA Negeri 9 Denpasar. The method used is an exploratory qualitative study through observations of the school environment, interviews with community leaders and biology teachers, and documentation of local ethnobotany references. The results of the exploration showed that there are at least twelve species of medicinal plants commonly used by the local community, including temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), cat's whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus), and pule pandak (Rauvolfia serpentina). These three plants have interesting morphological characteristics to study as well as pharmacological properties that are relevant to public health issues. The integration of these plants in biology learning is carried out through a contextual approach, such as herbarium creation projects, identification of plant structures, and creation of educational videos based on field studies. This activity increases student engagement in the learning process and strengthens the relationship between biological concepts and local realities around them. This finding emphasizes the importance of integrating local knowledge into the school curriculum as a strategy to enrich open materials, increase learning motivation, and foster awareness of conservation and preservation of local culture. This study recommends the development of systematic local wisdom-based teaching materials as a concrete step in supporting Independent Learning and preserving local identity through education.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the science learning outcomes of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Sukawati, Gianyar through contextual learning. By involving a sample of 69 people taken by simple random sampling, but what is randomized is the class because it cannot change the classes that have been formed previously. Thus, this study is classified as a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The instrument used to collect data is a multiple-choice science learning outcome test that has been tested for validity and reliability coefficient. The data collected has been tested for its prerequisites and is in a normal distribution and has a homogeneous variance so that the hypothesis test with the t-test can be carried out. From the results of the hypothesis test, it was found that the science learning outcomes of students who took contextual learning were better than the science learning outcomes of students who took conventional learning. For that, in order to obtain more optimal science learning outcomes, it is recommended to use contextual learning.
