Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the effect of using authentic material media on descriptive text reading comprehension at the XI grade MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. Research methodology that used in this research was quantitative method. Types of the research was experimental research. The population of the research was the students at XI grade of MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. Further, the sample of the research included 44 students. They were  experimental class consist of 25 students and control class consist of 19 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used test to know students’ descriptive text reading comprehension by learning using authentic material media. To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test formula. After using Authentic Material media the result of T-test  tcount was bigger than ttable (2.781.67). It means that hyphothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was significant effect of using Authentic Material Media.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the development of language acquisition at two years old especially phonemes acquisition. The data was collected by recording the child’s utterances in daily communication. The record was natural because the utterances recorded while the child was playing by phone. The child uttered without any setting. Based on the data analysis it was found that a child at two years old already able to produce words. Some consonant phonemes which was already produced the child are/b/,/d/, /g/,/k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /t/, /y/, /c/. There are 9 variation of consonant phonemes such as /t∫/, /dj/, /ŋ/, /bh/, /dh/, /gh/, /’/, /ch/, /ph/. The total of phonemes acquired by the child is 20 phonemes. Furthermore, the child already can produce vowel phonemes such as /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/ and 4 variation of vowel phonemes like /∂/, /ʌ/, / ε/, / ô/.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking mastery at grade VIII students of SMP N 5 Padangsidimpuan. Type of this research was quantitative research with a correlational method. Based on calculation of the data, the researcher found that the score of rxy was more than rtable 0.737 0,423. It means the result showed that there was a significant correlation between two variables in the good category.

Abstract

This research discusses about derivational affixes in song  lyrics. The researcher analyzed five songs in Harris Jung’s Salam album. The five songs are: Salam Alaikum, Good Life, Rasool’ Allah, I Promise, and My Hero. The kind of the research was library research. The researcher analyzed the data by using four steps, they are understanding (reading), identifying, classifying, and describing. The results of the research are there were two kinds of derivational affixes in Harris Jung’s Salam album in the five selected songs, they were derivational prefixes and derivational suffixes. The dominant of derivational affixes in Harris Jung’s Salam album in five selected songs were derivational suffixes with the total percantage 64% that are suffixes –ness (4), -y (1), -ful (1), -en (1), -ly (2) and then derivational prefixes with the total percantage 36% that are prefixes re- (2), un- (1), pro- (1), in- (1).

Abstract

 This research is discussing about the students’ reading comprehension of the second year MTs.Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan. This research employed descriptive quantitative  research. Based on the result of the research, researcher got the description of the data was found that mean score was 56.76. It means that the students’ reading comprehension of the second year MTs.Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan was categorized into enough ability. Then, from the result of the hypothesis testing, the researcher found that Zcount =-3.57Ztable 0.3264. It means the hypothesis was rejected. Thus, the result of mean scores the students’ ability in enough ability and actually it should be accepted hypothesis, but based on the result of that score it is rejected. So, maybe there is a mistake in instrument or in calculation.

Abstract

The article is aimed to inform that self-assessment optimization through WhatsApp features can Increase the students’ listening comprehension. The action research is used to gain the data. It consists of 4 steps, like planning, acting, developing, and reflecting stage. It conducted for two cycles. The informants of this research come from fourth semester of English Education Program at STAIN Mandailing Natal. The instruments of collecting the data are an interview guide, online questionnaire, Listening script, and field note. Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed in this analysis. Qualitative data would be collected by observation, interviewing, and surveying. The listening examination will collect quantitative evidence. It will be evaluated using a listening comprehension score calculation. The result of the research showed the increasing on students’ listening comprehension through self-assessment optimization, it can be seen from the students’ scoring in each meeting.

Abstract

This research is discussing about students’ ability in mastering subordinating conjunction. The aim of this research was to find out the student’ ability in mastering subordinating conjunction at the fourth semester students of English Department IAIN Padangsidimpuan. This research was descriptive quantitative method that was conducted at the fourth semester IAIN Padangsidimpuan. The population of this research was fourth semester students of English department IAIN Padangsidimpuan. This research used 21 students as a sample. They were gotten by random sampling technique. The mean score of the students’ ability in mastering subordinating conjunction was 81.93. The result of this research showed the students ability in mastering subordinating conjunction was very good category.

Abstract

Learning autonomy means learners have to take responsibility in handing their own learning with the help and supervision guided by teachers. Then, selecting types of assessment techniques can be a way to create students’ learning autonomy during the instructional process. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine some techniques of English learning assessment that can foster students’ learning autonomy in online learning environment. Qualitative research was applied as research design done at English Education Department of the Institute for Islamic Studies of Padangsidimpuan. Ten lecturers of English Education Department were chosen purposively as respondents and interview was used as data collection technique. Then, the data were analyzed through qualitative data analysis in which the data were described and elaborated in detail ways. Related to findings, this study found some techniques of English learning assessment that regarded effective to improve students’ independence in online learning i.e. portfolio assessment, discussion and problem solving, essays and summary writing, online presentation, multimedia presentation, mini research, and recording performance task. Finally, this study concluded that there are many assessment techniques to foster students’ online learning autonomy and the promotion of learning autonomy becomes an important aspect to be included in online learning environment.

Abstract

The main focus of the research was to know the students’ descriptive writing in experiential function realizations and to find out the dominant process in that problems. Qualitative research was used in conducting this research. The participants of this research were 26 students at TBI-1 seventh semester of English Department IAIN Padangsidimpuan. The instrument to collect the data was the documents of students’ answer sheet in writing descriptive text. The data were analyzed by using Cresswell’s theory these are organizing and preparing data, reading data, coding data, generating description of data, representing data, and interpreting data. The result showed that the students’ writing descriptive text in experiential function realized on six process. The processes were material, verbal, mental, relational, behavioral and existential process. From the six processes, relational process realization was the dominant on students’ sentences. There are 47.67%process was categorized into relational process.
