Abstract

The integration of Islamic economic values into elementary education is essential to cultivate ethical financial behavior and entrepreneurial orientation from an early age. This community service program was designed to enhance students’ understanding of sharia economics and foster a business spirit grounded in noble morals. The program was implemented at SDN 2 Muhammadiyah Mamajang, Makassar, targeting 40 fourth- and fifth-grade students aged 9–11 years. A participatory action research (PAR) approach was applied through interactive learning methods such as storytelling, games, role-play simulations, and reflective discussions. The training modules covered fundamental Islamic economic principles, including the pillars of buying and selling, sharia contracts such as murabahah and salam, and ethical values of honesty, trustworthiness, and accountability in transactions. Data were collected through observation, quizzes, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically to capture cognitive, affective, and behavioral outcomes. The findings revealed significant improvements in students’ conceptual understanding of halal transactions, ethical awareness in economic interactions, and observable behavioral changes such as fair pricing and responsible money handling. Moreover, students demonstrated an emerging entrepreneurial spirit with a spiritual orientation, expressing intentions to engage in small-scale businesses guided by honesty and social responsibility. These results highlight the effectiveness of experiential learning in transmitting Islamic economic values and underscore the potential of community service programs as a medium for character education and sharia economic literacy at the elementary level.

The rapid advancement of digital technology and the increasing demand for industry-relevant competencies have transformed the field of accounting, shifting practices from manual processes to computerized systems. This community engagement program aims to strengthen the technological and accounting competencies of students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Unismuh Makassar by introducing Zahir Accounting as a modern, practical, and industry-recognized accounting software. The program responds to a significant skills gap, where many students lack exposure to accounting applications commonly used in professional settings. Through a one-day intensive workshop conducted at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, participants received training on financial management concepts, software navigation, and the preparation of complete financial statements using Zahir Accounting. The activity included theoretical lectures, hands-on tutorials, and guided simulations to ensure students gained both conceptual understanding and practical experience. Findings from the program indicate substantial improvements in students’ digital literacy, financial reporting skills, and awareness of technology-based accounting practices. Moreover, the training enhanced students’ confidence and preparedness to enter the workforce or pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, aligning with Muhammadiyah’s vision of developing competent, values-driven human resources. The program demonstrates the relevance of integrating modern accounting tools into secondary education and highlights the need for continuous training and the development of tailored learning modules to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance the financial management capabilities of weaving artisans in Kampung Tenun Rongkong, Luwu Utara, by strengthening their understanding and application of production cost management. Traditional weavers generally rely on intuitive methods when determining production expenses and pricing, which results in inaccurate cost estimates, inconsistent pricing strategies, and limited financial sustainability. To address this gap, a participatory and problem-based approach was implemented through several stages, including preliminary assessment, training workshops, hands-on mentoring, and evaluation. The program introduced key concepts related to cost classification, cost of goods manufactured (COGM), cost of goods sold (COGS), budgeting techniques, and simple financial record-keeping tailored to small-scale weaving enterprises. The results indicate significant improvements in artisans’ knowledge of production cost components, accuracy in cost calculation, and their ability to record daily expenditures using structured worksheets. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness of overhead costs and adopted more rational pricing strategies based on actual cost data. Mentoring activities further facilitated behavioral changes, particularly in tracking expenses and exploring more efficient raw material procurement options. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges related to varying literacy levels and limited digital readiness remain. The program highlights the importance of continuous assistance and the integration of broader capacity-building topics, such as digital marketing and market access, to ensure long-term sustainability for traditional weaving communities.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to strengthen the financial management capacity of community-based waste banks in Makassar City, Indonesia, through a structured training and mentoring initiative. Waste banks have emerged as an innovative approach to waste management by promoting community participation in waste sorting, recycling, and circular economic practices. However, many waste bank units continue to face significant challenges in preparing accurate and accountable financial reports due to limited knowledge of basic accounting, inconsistent record-keeping, and minimal use of digital tools. This program, implemented collaboratively by Universitas Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia and several universities in South Sulawesi under the International Association of Economic and Business, focuses on improving the competencies of waste bank managers in preparing simple financial statements aligned with fundamental accounting principles. The activities include needs assessment, training on cash flow records, balance sheets, and income statements, hands-on mentoring, and the introduction of basic digital accounting tools. The program also strengthens institutional accountability and enhances stakeholder trust, contributing to better financial governance within the waste bank ecosystem. Furthermore, the initiative supports the strategic goals of Makassar City in promoting community-based waste management and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 11, 12, and 17. The outcomes demonstrate increased financial literacy, improved reporting accuracy, and stronger collaboration between local communities, government institutions, and international academic partners. This program is expected to serve as a replicable model for community empowerment and sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

Micro-enterprises play a crucial role in supporting local economic growth, particularly in coastal areas where communities depend heavily on informal business activities such as fisheries, seafood processing, small trading, and water-based services. Despite their economic contribution, tax awareness among micro-enterprise entrepreneurs in these regions remains remarkably low, limiting their access to formal financial services and government support programs. This community engagement program aims to enhance tax awareness and compliance through an integrated education and mentorship approach specifically designed for coastal micro-business actors in South Sulawesi. The program incorporates interactive tax literacy training, hands-on mentoring, and practical demonstrations on administrative processes such as Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) registration, tax reporting, and the use of digital tax platforms. Collaboration with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, the International Association of Economic and Business, several local universities, community organizations, traditional institutions, and Masjid Terapung Ar-Rahma Tallo ensures a culturally grounded and community-based implementation strategy. The program addresses key issues faced by micro-entrepreneurs, including limited financial literacy, negative perceptions of taxation, minimal access to digital services, and the absence of personalized guidance. Findings indicate that the combination of contextual education and continuous mentorship significantly improves participants’ understanding, confidence, and willingness to comply with tax obligations. Beyond increasing tax awareness, the initiative strengthens community networks, enhances entrepreneurial capacity, and supports the development of a more inclusive and sustainable local economic ecosystem. This model offers a scalable framework for tax empowerment in underserved coastal communities.

Abstract

This study investigates how silent branding shapes implicit brand recognition among fashion consumers in Makassar, focusing on minimalist brands such as Uniqlo, H&M, and Executive. Employing a transcendental phenomenology approach, the research explores consumers’ lived experiences in recognizing brands without relying on logos or explicit visual markers. Twelve purposively selected participants were interviewed in-depth, and data were analyzed through phenomenological reduction, including horizonalization, meaning-unit clustering, and textural–structural synthesis. Findings reveal that implicit brand recognition emerges through the interplay of four dimensions: (1) product design as an implicit identity, including cutting, silhouette, color palette, and material texture; (2) sensory familiarity developed through repeated physical interaction and use; (3) visual exposure across retail and social media environments that reinforces internalized aesthetic schemas; and (4) consistency in aesthetic and material quality across collections, which enhances perceived trust and brand credibility. The study demonstrates that minimalist brands can cultivate strong brand identity without logos when consistent design and sensory cues are reinforced by repeated exposure. This research extends the understanding of consumer perception by highlighting how memory, multisensory experience, and aesthetic consistency contribute to implicit recognition. Practically, the findings suggest that fashion brands adopting minimalist strategies can leverage silent branding to establish meaningful consumer connections, emphasizing experiential cues over overt visual symbols.

Abstract

The increasing demand for clean and affordable energy has encouraged the exploration of locally sourced biomass alternatives, particularly in regions with abundant agricultural waste. Coconut fiber, one of Indonesia’s most prevalent organic residues, presents significant potential for conversion into renewable energy products. This study develops BioCOco, an organic briquette derived from coconut fiber, as an innovative solution to support community-based renewable energy initiatives. The research aims to evaluate the production process, physical characteristics, combustion performance, and community applicability of BioCOco. A mixed-methods approach was implemented, combining experimental laboratory testing with community participation workshops. The briquettes were produced using finely processed coconut fiber and natural starch-based binders, followed by controlled drying and compression. Laboratory results demonstrate that BioCOco possesses high calorific value, low smoke emissions, and strong material durability, meeting common standards for sustainable biomass briquettes. Community trials also indicate positive acceptance, driven by the briquette’s affordability, ease of ignition, and alignment with local environmental values. Additionally, the initiative fosters circular economy practices by transforming waste into a marketable energy product. This study concludes that BioCOco is a practical, low-cost, and environmentally responsible energy alternative for rural communities and holds strong potential for wider-scale adoption. Further research is recommended to optimize production technology and assess long-term socioeconomic impacts.
