Abstract

Magical realism is a fusion of elements of realism with fantasy or imagination beyond reason, which often occurs in society due to the influence of culture and belief. Among the literary works that have these elements, one of them is the novel Srimenanti by Joko Pinurbo. The research was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods. The theory used in analyzing this novel is Wendy B. Fariz’s theory. The research results show that there are five characteristics of magical realism. These five characteristics include: irreducible elements in the form of belief in myths and supernatural figures (eltece); (2) the phenomenal world in the form of belief in the tradition of the spirit month and the existence of God (religion); (3) doubts caused by figures supernatural (eltece) and magical objects in the form of painting equipment; (4) Merger of Territories in the form of a magical figure (elence) acting like a human; (5) Cracks in Time, Space, and Identity in the form of cracks in space, namely, guard posts, and identity cracks, happen to the character Srimenanti, who has an identity as a painter and a holy person, and the character Uncle Yusi as a teacher and spiritual advisor.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk pesan moral berupa norma agama, hukum dan adat istiadat dalam novel Api Tauhid karya Hasbiburrahman El-Shirazy. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menentukan dan menggunakan langkah-langkah dalam mengumpulkan data dengan cara membaca, menandai, mencatat, dan memahami. Data yang terdapat dalam penelitian ini berupa ungkapan, kalimat yang berasal dari novel Api Tauhid karya Habiburrahman El-Shirazy. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti juga menyesuaikan data dan mengaitkan dengan teori yang digunakan peneliti. Berdasarkan ahsil penelitian, bentuk pesan moral yang ditemukan dalam novel Api Tauhid adalah: (1) pesan moral yang berdasarkan pada norma agama, (2) pesan moral yang berdasarkan pada norma hukum, dan (3) pesan moral yang berdasarkan pada norma adat istiadat.

Abstract

Literature is an eternal cultural representation in written form. The novel Haniyah and Ala at Teteruga’s House was written by Erni Aladjai to perpetuate the culture of eastern Indonesia. This study aims to describe the living equipment and technology in the novel. This is interesting because novels are attached to relics that are rarely owned by modern society. The anthropological theory of literature is assisted in exploring the culture of life tools and technology. Descriptive qualitative research methods are applied to find cultural aspects in each storytelling of the novel. Furthermore, the data collection technique of observing, reading and taking notes is carried out as a step before conducting content analysis. The results of the research findings are the existence of living equipment and technology such as (i) clothing, (ii) shelter, (iii) relics, (iv) weapons, (v) production objects, (vi) transportation in the form of boats, and (vii) agricultural equipment. Through these findings, it can become a cultural discourse for readers, as well as a scientific anchor regarding local wisdom and locality.

Abstract

Cerpen ialah salah satu jenis karya sastra yang menggambarkan realitas kehidupan sosial di dalam masyarakat. Sehubung dengan hal tersebut, penelitian ini mengkaji nilai-nilai sosial yang terkandung dalam cerpen “Setan atau Malaikat” karya Vivin Sunarko, dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan representasi nilai-nilai sosial yang ada di dalam karya tersebut. Metodologi yang diterapkan dalam kajian ini ialah deskriptif kuaitatif, memungkinkan analisis yang komprehensif terhadadap nilai sosial dalam teks. Kerangka analisis didasarkan pada klasifikasi nilai sosial menurut Risdi, yang mencakup tujug kategori, yaitu nilai kepribadian, nilai kebendaan, nilai biologis, nilai kepatuhan hukum, nilai pengetahuan, nilai agama, dan nilai keindahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya 10 data yang mencerminkan beragam nilai sosial dalam cerpem “Setan atau Malaikat”. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bagaimana cerpen dapat menjadi cermin nilai-nilai yang ada dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis penggunaan metafora dan alegori oleh George Lakoff dan Mark Johnson dalam novel "The Little Prince" karya Antoine de Saint-Exupéry dari segi gaya bahasa dan gaya bahasa untuk memahami bagaimana metafora dan alegori memberi makna pada kehidupan. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif menurut Moleong (2004:6), dengan pendekatan stilistika, penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana elemen-elemen sastra ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan tema dan karakter dalam cerita dengan pilihan kata, struktur kalimat, dan penggunaan bahasa lain yang menciptakan metafora dan majas atau ungkapan dalam konteks “The Little Prince”. Metode pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik baca dan catat. Melalui analisis mendalam, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa metafora dan alegori tidak hanya memperkaya narasi, tetapi juga memberikan wawasan yang lebih dalam tentang pengalaman manusia, hubungan antar individu, dan pencarian makna dalam hidup.

Abstract

This study discusses the forms and meanings of reduplication in Javanese found in the short story Langit Jingga by Sumono Sandy Asmoro, published in Panjebar Semangat magazine, edition 8, 2008. The study aims to describe the types of reduplication and their meanings in the short story. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with content analysis techniques and data collection through observing and note-taking. The results of the study found five forms of Javanese reduplication: 1) full reduplication of the base word, 2) reduplication with changes in sound or phonemes, 3) reduplication with affixes, 4) partial reduplication of the base word, and 5) reduplication of the final syllable. The meanings of reduplication found in the short story are: 1) indicating more than one, 2) meaning resemblance, 3) meaning a small amount, and 4) meaning the highest or superlative.

Abstract

This study discusses the process of language acquisition and speech disorders experienced by the main character in the film The King's Speech through the behaviorism and nativism approaches in the realm of psycholinguistics. This film tells the true story of King George VI who had a stutter since childhood, but had to deliver a state speech amidst the pressure of World War II. This study aims to analyze the speech disorders of the main character, as well as how therapeutic interventions and innate language potential can be explained through two main psycholinguistic approaches. The method used is qualitative-descriptive analysis with a literature study approach and content analysis. The results of the analysis show that the behaviorism approach is very relevant in describing the therapy process through reinforcement, repetition, and habits. Meanwhile, the nativism approach is seen through the character's grammatical abilities which remain intact despite obstacles in pronunciation. This study shows the importance of a multidisciplinary understanding of speech disorders, not only from a medical aspect, but also from a linguistic and psychological aspect.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the ideology embedded in the discourse of the 2025 KIP Kuliah scholarship budget efficiency as presented on the Kompas.com news portal. This research employs a qualitative method with an analytical approach based on Norman Fairclough’s model. Fairclough outlines three key dimensions in critical discourse analysis: (i) textual dimension, (ii) discourse practice dimension, and (iii) sociocultural dimension. The stages of data analysis include: (i) description process, (ii) interpretation process, and (iii) explanation process. The results indicate that the textual dimension contains ideologically loaded phrases and vocabulary such as cutting or reduction, not affected by budget efficiency, will not be reduced, restored, original, continued, and accessible. In the discourse practice dimension, Kompas.com employs moderate and rational word choices such as budget efficiency, budget adjustment, and program continuation. These lexical choices reflect an alignment with the state’s narrative emphasizing fiscal stability while simultaneously creating the impression that public interest is still being prioritized. In the sociocultural dimension, the news was written during a period when the KIP-Kuliah scholarship efficiency policy became a public concern. Institutionally, the report represents Kompas.com’s response to the issue, while the social aspect highlights the economic and educational impacts of the scholarship budget cuts on underprivileged communities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan fungsi tindak tutur ilokusi dalam cerpen Ṭabliyyatun Minas-samā’i karya Yusuf Idris melalui pendekatan pragmatik. Kajian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya memahami bahasa tokoh sebagai representasi tindakan sosial dan psikologis dalam karya sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan desain studi pustaka. Data berupa tuturan para tokoh dalam cerpen yang mengandung tindak tutur ilokusi dikumpulkan melalui teknik simak dan catat, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori tindak tutur Searle yang mencakup lima kategori: asertif, direktif, ekspresif, komisif, dan deklaratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 43 data tindak tutur ilokusi, terdiri atas 8 tindak tutur asertif, 16 direktif, 15 ekspresif, dan 4 komisif, sedangkan bentuk deklaratif tidak ditemukan. Temuan ini menunjukkan dominasi tindak tutur direktif dan ekspresif yang menegaskan peran bahasa sebagai sarana ekspresi emosi, kekuasaan, dan relasi sosial antar tokoh. Kesimpulannya, tindak tutur ilokusi dalam cerpen ini berfungsi tidak hanya untuk membangun karakter dan konflik, tetapi juga untuk merefleksikan kritik sosial dan nilai kemanusiaan yang menjadi ciri khas karya Yusuf Idris.

Abstract

This study examines the types of speech acts and politeness principles found in the short film “Es Krim Terakhir dari Ayah | Bensurvive Series,” released on the MOP Channel in 2024. The research is motivated by the need to understand family communication patterns represented through audiovisual media that portray language use within real-life contexts. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation and note-taking, then analyzed using Searle’s classification of speech acts and Leech’s politeness principles. The results show 48 identified speech acts, consisting of assertive (35.4%), directive (31.3%), expressive (29.2%), and commissive acts (4.2%), while no declarative acts were found. Meanwhile, 47 data points related to politeness principles were identified, dominated by the tact maxim (27.66%), followed by the approbation and sympathy maxims (21.28% each), the modesty maxim (12.77%), the generosity maxim (10.64%), and the agreement maxim (4.26%). A total of 46 data points (97.87%) adhered to politeness maxims, while 1 datum (2.13%) violated the tact maxim. These findings indicate that the film highlights communication patterns characterized by information sharing, requests, emotional expression, and polite interaction within a family setting. The study concludes that the film portrays harmonious and empathetic family communication and contributes to pragmatic studies focusing on speech acts and politeness in audiovisual media.
