Abstract

Introduction: Febrile seizures are convulsions in children triggered by a body temperature above 38°C without intracranial abnormalities. This condition may cause delayed brain development, paralysis, mental retardation, and 2–10% may progress to epilepsy or death. Methods: This study aimed to determine the difference in mothers’ knowledge about first aid for febrile seizures in children under five before and after health education using leaflet media. The research was conducted from September to October 2024 in the Sakura Ward of Buleleng Regency Hospital with 32 respondents selected through purposive sampling. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied. Results: Before the intervention, 90.6% of respondents had low knowledge, while after the intervention, 93.8% had good knowledge. The paired t-test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference in mothers’ knowledge before and after education. Conclusion: Health education using leaflet media effectively improves mothers’ knowledge about first aid for febrile seizures in toddlers. Health workers are advised to use leaflet media as a concise, clear, and efficient educational tool for febrile seizure prevention.

Abstract

Introduction: Prenatal attachment is a close, warm, and loving cognitive and emotional bond that forms between a mother and her fetus, aimed at the well-being of both the mother and the fetus. This bond is known to encourage healthy behaviors, such as adherence to iron tablet intake during pregnancy. Objective: To determine the relationship between prenatal attachment and adherence to iron tablet consumption in the service area of the Benteng Community Health Center in Palopo City. Methods: A cross-sectional design involving 33 third-trimester pregnant women using total sampling. Prenatal attachment was measured using the Indonesian version of the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (IPAI), and adherence was measured using a questionnaire.  Data analysis was performed using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: Prenatal attachment was significantly associated with iron tablet adherence (p = 0.004 < p = 0.05). A total of 51.5% of pregnant women had high prenatal attachment, and 60.6% of pregnant women had high adherence. Conclusion: Prenatal attachment, a healthy lifestyle behavior among pregnant women, has been proven effective in improving adherence to iron tablet consumption. A close, warm, and loving emotional bond between the mother and the fetus can be utilized in antenatal care practice.

Abstract

Vulva hygiene is an effort to maintain the cleanliness of the external genital area of women. Lack of care can cause vaginal discharge, which is an abnormal discharge from the vagina that can smell and cause itching. In Indonesia, 90% of women have experienced vaginal discharge, and 60% of them occur in adolescent girls. This study aims to determine the effect of booklet media on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls about vulva hygiene in preventing vaginal discharge. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the pretest-posttest type with a control group. The sample consisted of 80 adolescent girls selected through purposive sampling techniques. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire, and data analysis was carried out using the t-test. The results of the study showed that health education using booklet media about vulva hygiene significantly increased the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls, as evidenced by a p value <0.05 for both variables. Health education delivered through booklet media is more effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls compared to the use of Power Point media.

Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a regularly occurring mental health ailment that may have serious implications for maternal well-being and toddler development. Growing proof suggests that PPD performs a crucial role in shaping the socio-emotional consequences of toddlers for the duration of the early years of life. This systematic literature overview pursuits to synthesize current-day findings on the connection between PPD and toddler socio-emotional development, become aware of research gaps, and highlight implications for practice and policy. Using established choice standards, we analyzed seven peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 until 2025 that examined maternal depressive signs and symptoms and child developmental outcomes. The evaluation discovered regular evidence linking persistent maternal depression with accelerated behavioral problems, reduced emotional variability, and delays in socio-emotional milestones amongst babies and young children. Furthermore, cumulative publicity to each prenatal and postnatal despair is associated with exacerbating developmental risks. While a few studies also explored maternal sleep, parenting stress, and physiological correlates including oxytocin stages, those findings have been much less conclusive. Notwithstanding methodological variation, the reviewed literature supports the urgent need for early identification and intervention for maternal despair to limit lengthy-term negative consequences on kids. Those findings underscore the significance of integrating intellectual health offerings into maternal and child fitness programs and get in touch with for further research on mediating and moderating elements that have an impact on developmental trajectories.

Abstract

Background: Husbands’ perceptions significantly influence women’s reproductive health, affecting healthcare-seeking behavior, contraceptive use, antenatal care participation, and maternal outcomes. However, comprehensive mapping of these social perceptions remains limited. Objective: To systematically map and synthesize evidence on husbands’ social perceptions toward women’s reproductive health across diverse cultural settings. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Literature was searched from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases for articles published between 2021–2025. Keywords used included “husband perception,” “social perception,” “women’s reproductive health,” and “men involvement.” Studies included were qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research focusing on husbands’ perceptions regarding women’s reproductive health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs). Data were extracted and thematically synthesized. Results: From 312 identified articles, 6 studies met the inclusion criteria. Three primary themes emerged: (1) Husbands’ knowledge and misconceptions about reproductive health (contraception, maternal care, menstrual health), (2) Cultural and religious beliefs shaping perceptions toward women’s reproductive health, and (3) Husbands’ perceived roles and decision-making power in women’s reproductive healthcare-seeking behaviors. Studies in LMICs reported that patriarchal norms and low health literacy among husbands contribute to delayed reproductive healthcare access. In contrast, studies from HICs highlighted shared decision-making and supportive roles, yet gaps in specific reproductive health knowledge persisted. Conclusion: Husbands’ social perceptions significantly impact women’s reproductive health outcomes. Addressing misconceptions, promoting health literacy, and engaging husbands in reproductive health programs are crucial to improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes globally. Future interventions should integrate culturally sensitive strategies to enhance husbands’ positive involvement in women’s reproductive health.

Abstract

Baby Blues Syndrome (BBS) is a common, yet critical, transient mood disorder during the postpartum period, serving as a significant risk factor for severe postpartum depression. Identifying high-risk mothers based on common obstetric factors, such as maternal age, parity, and delivery method, is essential for timely intervention in clinical practice. This study aimed to develop an integrated prediction model for the risk of BBS based on the simultaneous contribution of maternal age, parity, and delivery method. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving a sample of 46 postpartum mothers. Data analysis utilized the Chi-Square test for bivariate analysis and logistic regression for multivariate modelling. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the final model was statistically significant and explained 51.1% of the variation in BBS incidence. The strongest predictor of BBS was the C-Section delivery method, increasing the risk by 13.5 times compared to normal delivery. Additionally, Primipara was a significant predictor, increasing the risk by 8.4 times. Maternal Age was not found to be a significant predictor in the final model. C-Section and Primipara are the most significant obstetric risk predictors for BBS.
