Abstract

Estrogen has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, but its levels decrease in postmenopausal women who can trigger oxidative stress. One of the most damaging effects of ROS is lipid peroxidation, and the end product is Malondialdehyde (MDA). Similarly, aging endothelium has increased oxidative stress and endothelial cell sensitivity to apoptosis. This study aimed to determine the effect of cowpea extract on serum MDA levels, aortic endothelial cell counts, and brain MDA levels in the ovariectomy model. Cowpea extract can be used as an alternative to prevent and overcome the effects that occur during menopause, such as cardiovascular problems, decreased bone mineral density, and dementia. The study used 15-month-old female Rattus norvegicus, divided into six groups (OVX, SHAM, OVX+estradiol, OVX+Vu 1.25; 2.5; and 5 mg/kg BW/day). Serum and brain MDA levels were examined by ELISA method, while the number of aortic endothelial cells were examined on histopathological preparations with Hematoxylin & Eosin (HE) staining. The mean value of serum and brain MDA levels decreased with an increase in the dose given (p-value 0.016). The mean value of aortic endothelial cells between the dose groups did not significantly differ. However, the mean value showed an increasing trend as the dose of cowpea extract was given. The results of this study indicate that the extract of cowpea has the potential as an antioxidant to reduce serum and brain MDA levels, prevent a decrease in the number of aortic endothelial cells. As prevention, cowpea extract can be used as an antioxidant and consumed since premenopause to minimize problems that occur during postmenopause.

Abstract

Depomedroxy Progesterone Acetate is a synthetic progesterone used in the injection method in the Family Planning program. This method is familiarly known as 3-month injection KB in the community. Injecting family planning services can be accessed at Independent Midwives' Practices, Doctor's Practices and Community Health Centers. Based on data for 2021, the most widely used method is injection, which is 33.1% (RI Ministry of Health, 2022). However, using it for a long time, this method will cause a hypoestrogen-like state like menopause. This causes health problems such as decreased libido and increased BMI (Body Mass Index). This research is a qualitative research that uses Chi-Square analysis to assess the relationship between the variables studied. The population in this study were 3-month injection acceptors at PMB Lia Sofa with a sampling technique using Acidental Sampling. This research was conducted from April to July 2022 using a questionnaire as a tool. From this study, it was found that there was a relationship between the duration of 3 months of injection injections with an increase in BMI and a decrease in libido

Abstract

Abstract

Child health and early childhood development are strongly influenced by the quality of maternal care, including simple stimulation such as infant massage. However, parenting literacy and practical skills in infant massage remain low among many mothers in Tarakan, North Kalimantan. This lack of knowledge leads to suboptimal stimulation during early childhood, which is a critical period for growth and development. Therefore, the SENTUH Program (Sehat, Nyaman, Tumbuh Harmonis/Healthy, Comfortable, Harmonious Growth) was implemented as a community service initiative to improve mothers’ capacity in infant massage as a form of stimulation and to strengthen mother–child bonding. The aim of this program was to enhance mothers’ knowledge and skills in infant massage through interactive education, demonstrations, and role play. The methods included socialization, training, and hands-on practice. Interactive lectures were delivered on the benefits of infant massage, developmental milestones, and responsive parenting. Infant massage demonstrations were conducted by facilitators using dolls, followed by direct practice by participants. Role play was applied to train empathic communication between cadres, mothers, and infants, while also improving cadres’ facilitation skills in posyandu activities. Evaluation was carried out through pretest–posttest assessments and direct observation of infant massage practice. The results indicated a significant improvement in both knowledge and skills among mothers and cadres. Most participants were able to describe the benefits of infant massage, identify correct steps, and perform the practice independently. Cadres also showed improved ability to facilitate mother classes after training. SENTUH Program proved effective in enhancing mothers’ and cadres’ knowledge and skills in infant massage. This initiative strengthens the role of families and community health posts in supporting optimal child growth and development.

Abstract

Baby Blues Syndrome (BBS) is a common, yet critical, transient mood disorder during the postpartum period, serving as a significant risk factor for severe postpartum depression. Identifying high-risk mothers based on common obstetric factors, such as maternal age, parity, and delivery method, is essential for timely intervention in clinical practice. This study aimed to develop an integrated prediction model for the risk of BBS based on the simultaneous contribution of maternal age, parity, and delivery method. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving a sample of 46 postpartum mothers. Data analysis utilized the Chi-Square test for bivariate analysis and logistic regression for multivariate modelling. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the final model was statistically significant and explained 51.1% of the variation in BBS incidence. The strongest predictor of BBS was the C-Section delivery method, increasing the risk by 13.5 times compared to normal delivery. Additionally, Primipara was a significant predictor, increasing the risk by 8.4 times. Maternal Age was not found to be a significant predictor in the final model. C-Section and Primipara are the most significant obstetric risk predictors for BBS.
