Abstract

Irrational use of medicines remains a public health problem, including among adolescents in religious educational institutions. Santri living in Islamic boarding schools are required to be independent in managing their daily health needs, which may increase the risk of improper medicine use if adequate knowledge is lacking. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and understanding of santri at BTRG Islamic Boarding School, Aceh, regarding proper medicine management through the socialization and introduction of the DAGUSIBU concept (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicines Properly). The activity was conducted using an educational and participatory approach, including lectures, interactive discussions, and the distribution of educational media. A total of 52 santri participated in the activity, consisting of 30 male and 22 female santri. The results showed an improvement in santri’s understanding of DAGUSIBU principles, as indicated by active participation during the sessions and their ability to explain the material after the activity. This program had a positive impact on increasing awareness of rational medicine use among santri. Therefore, continuous DAGUSIBU education is recommended to enhance health literacy in Islamic boarding school environments.

Abstract

The Community Service in the Field of Pharmacy through Aid Distribution and Health Education for Victims of the Aceh Tamiang Flash Flood was implemented as a form of social responsibility by pharmacy academics to support post-disaster community health recovery. This program aimed to provide basic medicines, conduct public health education, and raise awareness on rational drug use and hygiene practices. The activity was carried out on December 28, 2025, in Kedai Telaga Meuku Sa Village, Banda Mulia Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, involving lecturers and students from the YPPM Mandiri Academy of Pharmacy, Banda Aceh. The implementation consisted of three stages, preparation, execution, and evaluation—using an experiential learning approach. The results indicated an increase in community knowledge regarding disease prevention and appropriate drug use (±84%), along with improved communication skills and social empathy among students. The activity also strengthened collaboration between academia, local government, and the community in enhancing community health resilience in disaster-prone areas. Nevertheless, the program had several limitations, including a relatively short implementation period and limited area coverage; therefore, a follow-up program is recommended through the establishment of community health cadres and sustainable mentoring activities.

Abstract

The lack of students’ understanding regarding proper medicine storage, expiration dates, and the scope of pharmacy professions remains a common issue in schools. This condition may affect adolescent health literacy and increase the risk of inappropriate medicine use. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge regarding pharmaceutical product stability while introducing the field of pharmacy to students of MAN 6 Aceh Besar. The implementation method used educational counseling through interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and distribution of educational leaflets. The participants consisted of 60 twelfth-grade students who actively attended the program. The materials delivered included the concept of product stability, factors affecting drug quality, differences between expiration date and shelf life, and an introduction to pharmacy professions. The results showed an increase in students’ understanding of proper medicine storage and safe drug use. Participants also demonstrated high enthusiasm toward information related to pharmacy education and career opportunities. Overall, this activity was effective in improving health literacy while serving as a medium for introducing the pharmacy field to high school students.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide educational support and mentoring through an emergency school program for children affected by flood disasters in Beuringen Village, Meurah Dua Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency. Flood disasters have disrupted educational processes and negatively impacted children’s psychosocial conditions, thus requiring alternative efforts to ensure the continuity of learning in emergencies. The implementation method consisted of three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were carried out directly (offline) by a community service team in collaboration with Bimbel Aswaja Pidie Jaya. The program included basic learning activities such as reading and writing, homework assistance, hygiene education, interactive learning activities, and the distribution of aid to participants. The evaluation was conducted through observation and a simple emoticon-based instrument to measure children’s happiness responses. The results indicate that the emergency school program was successfully implemented and received positive responses from participants. Approximately 85% of the children expressed happy to very happy responses toward the activities. The program not only improved learning motivation but also contributed positively to the psychosocial recovery of children after the disaster. In conclusion, the emergency school program can serve as an effective alternative solution to maintain the continuity of children’s education while supporting psychosocial recovery in disaster-affected areas.
