Abstract

Objectives: This study examines how the global streetwear brand Volcom has been reconstructed as a marker of cross-generational, collective identity within Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It investigates the local meanings attached to the brand, the grassroots mechanisms driving this reconstruction, and the reasons behind its extension into non-commercial display practices. Methods: Using a qualitative case study design bounded by the phenomenon rather than a fixed location, the study draws on in-depth interviews with five purposively selected key informants across four groups (young consumers, adult consumers, community figures, and local retailers), supplemented by netnographic observation of public social media content and contextual field observation. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Findings reveal that Volcom's original association with Californian subculture has undergone de-subculturalization, being re-signified as a symbol of regional solidarity and kinship. This reconstruction is sustained through intergenerational transmission, the curatorial role of local retailers, and social media amplification such as the "Jambul Volcom" trend. Community members further extend the brand's logo into non-commercial spaces, including vehicles and household décor, distinguishing between commercial and cultural authenticity as they do so. Research Implications: The study extends meaning transfer, glocalization, brand community, and extended self theories by demonstrating that brand meaning reconstruction can occur as an emergent, community-driven process that is spatially concentrated rather than geographically dispersed. It offers brand managers insight into how organic, grassroots brand equity can form independently of formal marketing strategy.

Abstract

The Objectives –This study aims to analyze the influence of Brand Authenticity, Social Media Marketing, and Perceived Value on thrift shoe purchasing decisions among Generation Z consumers in Makassar City. The main objective of this study is to determine the most dominant variables in influencing purchasing decisions in the rapidly growing thrift fashion business among Gen Z. The Methods/approaches –This study employed a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis. Data were collected from 95 Generation Z respondents in Makassar City through an online questionnaire distributed through social media. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with respondents aged 18–27 years old and having purchased thrift shoes at least once in the past year. Each variable was measured using a 5-point Likert scale based on theoretical indicators. The Results –The results of the study indicate that three variables—Brand Authenticity, Social Media Marketing, and Perceived Value—have a positive and significant partial effect on purchasing decisions. Among the three, Brand Authenticity has a dominant influence with the highest regression coefficient value. This confirms that the perception of product authenticity is a key factor in shaping thrift shoe purchasing decisions among Gen Z Makassar residents. The Research Implications –This research contributes to the understanding of Generation Z consumer behavior in the thrift fashion market, particularly in the footwear category. The managerial implications of this research suggest that thrift shoe businesses need to maintain product authenticity and transparency, optimize marketing strategies through social media, and enhance consumer value perceptions to improve purchasing decisions and competitiveness in the sustainable fashion market.

Abstract

The Objectives –. This study aims to synthesize the determinants, implementation challenges, and organizational outcomes of Work From Anywhere (WFA) from a Human Resource Management (HRM) perspective. The Methods/approaches –. A literature review was conducted using 33 Scopus-indexed articles retrieved with the keyword "Work From Anywhere". The search was limited to publications from 2020–2026, document type Article, subject area Business, Management and Accounting, and English-language publications. The selected studies were analyzed using a thematic synthesis approach. The Results – Indicate that successful Work From Anywhere implementation is influenced by leadership, communication, organizational trust, digital readiness, and adaptive HRM practices. The review also identifies major implementation challenges, including technostress, blurred work-life boundaries, and social isolation. When effectively managed, WFA contributes to improved employee performance, psychological well-being, work–life balance, talent retention, and organizational agility. The Research Implications – This review integrates fragmented evidence into three major themes, implementation determinants, implementation challenges, and organizational outcomes providing a comprehensive HRM perspective on Work From Anywhere. The findings offer a useful reference for future research and support organizations in developing effective and sustainable flexible work policies.

Abstract

The Objectives – This study examines whether Indonesian food and beverage (F&B) firms generated returns above those implied by market risk during 2021–2025, and investigates whether profitability, leverage, inflation, and the policy interest rate help explain risk-adjusted performance as measured by Jensen’s Alpha. The Methods/approaches – Annual Jensen’s Alpha was calculated for six F&B issuers listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (30 firm-year observations, 2021–2025) and regressed on return on assets, the debt-to-equity ratio, inflation, and the Bank Indonesia 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate, controlling for firm size, using a preliminary pooled OLS model ahead of a full panel-data estimation. The Results – Average Jensen’s Alpha across the sample was −6.82 percent, with only 2022 recording a positive industry-wide alpha. The pooled model explained little of the variation (R² = 0.231) and none of the five predictors was statistically significant, while variance inflation factors indicated severe multicollinearity. The Research Implications – The findings suggest F&B stocks did not consistently outperform risk-adjusted benchmarks, challenging the assumption of intrinsic defensive alpha in the sector. A panel-data strategy with fixed- and random-effects estimation is outlined to refine these estimates and support more cautious, risk-adjusted evaluation of consumer-staples equities

The Results – The findings indicate that training and development have a positive and significant effect on administrative quality, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a coefficient of determination of 70.1%. Furthermore, training and development also have a positive and significant effect on public services, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a coefficient of determination of 91.1%. These findings demonstrate that improving employees' competencies through training and development enhances both administrative quality and public service performance. The Research Implications – The results suggest that government institutions should continuously strengthen training and development programs to improve employees' competencies, thereby enhancing administrative quality and public service performance
