Abstract

Polygamy is one of the topics that is still a topic of considerable interest among exegetes. The conversation about this hat has attracted a lot of attention, causing long discussions and debates using various methods. Among the exegetes who discuss this polygamy are Amina Wadud and Muhammad Syahrur. This research uses descriptive-analytical research to describe the data collected and make a literature study (Library Research) as a data source. Amina Wadud tends to reject polygamy with the argument that this practice is not in accordance with the concept of gender equality and does not support the formation of a loving family as expected by the Qur'an. Moreover, in his view, there is not a single verse in the Qur'an that explicitly supports the practice of polygamy. Meanwhile, Muhammad Abduh allows polygamy on condition that it is in an emergency, that is, if the benefits outweigh the harms.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and describe in depth the implementation of nagham (melodic patterns) of the Qur'an in the tilawah (recitation) learning process at Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyatul Wildan, Subang. Nagham, as the art of reciting the Qur'an with specific melodic tones, not only beautifies the recitation but also helps deepen the understanding of the verses and enhances students’ memorization abilities. This research employs a descriptive qualitative field method with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings show that the learning of nagham is carried out gradually and in a structured manner using methods such as simā’i (listening directly to the teacher), talaqqi, and supervised independent practice. The types of nagham taught include Bayyati, Hijaz, Nahawand, Sikka, Soba, and Jiharkah. Students show significant progress in terms of voice quality, melody accuracy, and emotional expression in their recitations. The main obstacles encountered include the lack of vocal talent in some students, reluctance to try when prompted by instructors, and insufficient individual practice time. This study recommends that students continue practicing by adding extra practice schedules and encourages the pesantren to actively participate in LPTQ (Institute for the Development of Qur’anic Recitation) management to further develop students' potential to higher levels.

Abstract

The issue of global environmental degradation requires a multi-perspective approach, including from a religious perspective. This article examines the concept of ecological jihad from the semantic perspective of the Qur'an as a form of spiritual and social responsibility of Muslims towards environmental preservation. This research aims to explore the meaning of the word jihad and related terms such as khalifah, fase, islah, and mizan to understand their semantic expansion in the contemporary ecological context. This study uses a qualitative approach with semantic-linguistic analysis of relevant Qur'anic verses. The results of the study indicate that jihad in the Qur'an is not limited to armed struggle, but encompasses various forms of earnest effort, including preserving the environment as a form of ecological jihad. These basic principles serve as an ethical and theological basis for building ecological awareness. Furthermore, ecological jihad is understood as a collective effort of the ummah to prevent damage to the earth (fasad fi al-ardh) through concrete actions ranging from a lifestyle revolution (reducing consumption, implementing zero-waste), participation in conservation (reforestation, waste management), environmental education, to advocacy for pro-environmental policies. Thus, ecological jihad can be interpreted as a form of devotion to God that reflects faith, social concern, and human responsibility as caliphs for stewardship of the earth. These actions are concrete manifestations of efforts to prevent damage to the earth and achieve the common good, in line with the spirit of jihad in the Quran as a constructive and beneficial struggle.life, humans must never escape from mistakes, especially Muslims. The Qur'an should be the main foundation in all walks of life and be a guide in every matter and problem, including in achieving repentance to Allah SWT. However, there are many factors that can mislead humans, lead to the wrong path and tempt humans to follow temptations, lusts that can lead to sin, especially in a life that is increasingly deviating from Islamic teachings. The result can destroy man and prevent him from doing good. Therefore, it is necessary for humans to refer to the Qur'an as a helper to get an understanding of asking for forgiveness for the sins that have been committed through repentance.

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of mountain destruction from the perspective of two Abrahamic holy books, namely the Qur'an and the Bible. The narratives of both books explain that the destruction of mountains on the last day of time is a powerful symbol in describing cosmic events on the Day of Judgment. The destruction of mountains in the Qur'an is described in detail and visually, such as dust, flying feathers, and mirages. Meanwhile, in the Bible, the destruction of mountains tends to be symbolic, indicating God's wrath. The methodology used is a literature review with a qualitative, chronological, descriptive, and analytical approach, with primary sources from sacred texts and relevant literature. Kristeva emphasizes that texts are interconnected and form shared meaning. The results of the research indicate that both books, regarding the destruction of mountains, are not merely physical visualizations. However, the destruction of mountains carries meaning as a symbol of God's power and as a sign or reminder for all humanity.

Abstract

This study examines the evolution of the development of Qur'anic exegesis from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the period of codification. During the Prophet’s lifetime, exegesis was characterized by its authenticity, as it was directly sourced from divine revelation and his explanations to the companions. After the Prophet’s death, the companions continued the process of interpretation based on their understanding of the context of the verses, transmitted reports (riwayat), and independent reasoning (ijtihad) grounded in Shari'ah principles. Subsequently, the generation of the tabi'in and later scholars enriched the methodology of tafsir through linguistic, historical, and analytical approaches, alongside the development of supporting sciences such as Arabic linguistics and the study of asbab al-nuzul (occasions of revelation). The period of codification marked a significant milestone in the intellectual history of Islam, characterized by systematic efforts to collect, compile, and document the interpretations of the companions and tabi'in. This research employs a historical-descriptive method to trace the changes, methodological developments, and socio-historical dynamics that influenced Qur'anic exegesis throughout the early Islamic period. The findings reveal that the evolution of tafsir was driven by the community’s need for deeper understanding of the Qur'an, the complexity of socio-political contexts, and the advancement of Islamic sciences. It illustrates that the evolution of Qur'anic exegesis was not merely a response to practical needs but also a continuous scholarly process within Islamic civilization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the pronunciation ability of 10th grade students at SMA ‘Aisyiyah Boarding School Bandung in articulating the qalqalah letters in Surah Al-Falaq based on the theory of makhārijul ḥurūf. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, audio recordings, and interviews. The findings reveal that only some students were able to pronounce qalqalah letters correctly in accordance with their articulation points and phonetic characteristics. Common pronunciation errors included the absence of sound rebound, overly weak or excessive articulation, incorrect articulation points, and the inability to distinguish between qalqalah ṣughrā and kubrā. Contributing factors to these errors were the lack of phonetic awareness, minimal talaqqī and musyāfahah practice, and limited learning media. This study recommends the use of a more phonetics-based and practical tajwid teaching approach to improve students’ Qur’anic recitation quality.

Abstract

A correct understanding of the Qur’an relies heavily on mastering the Arabic language, the original language of revelation. One of the most essential yet often overlooked linguistic aspects in Qur’anic interpretation is the use of pronouns (ḍamā’ir). In the Qur’an, pronouns not only serve as word substitutes but also significantly affect contextual understanding and meaning precision. This article aims to highlight the importance of mastering the rules of pronouns as a requirement (syurūṭ) for a qualified mufassir, while analyzing the forms, types, and referents (marjiʿ) of ḍamīr in the Qur’an.This study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research. Data were collected from the Qur’an, classical and contemporary tafsir literature, and Arabic grammar books focusing on pronouns. The analysis was conducted using content analysis, involving identification of verses containing ḍamīr, classification of their forms and syntactic roles, and examination of contextual referents to ensure accurate interpretation. The findings reveal that ḍamīr in the Qur’an appear in various forms (explicit and implicit), each governed by specific grammatical rules. Understanding the referent (marjiʿ) is crucial, as misidentifying it may lead to flawed interpretation. The study also uncovers special grammatical principles regarding pronouns, including rhetorical devices such as ḍamīr al-sha’n, ḍamīr al-faṣl, and implied referents, which differ from the conventions in other languages. Thus, mastering the rules of pronouns is an indispensable requirement for every Qur’anic exegete, as affirmed by experts in Qur’anic sciences and Arabic linguistics

Abstract

In life, humans must never escape from mistakes, especially Muslims. Based on the context of the research, there are two main focuses discussed in this research, namely: 1). What is the meaning of repentance according to Al-Alusi in Ruh Al-Ma'ani interpretation? 2). How is the essence of repentance in QS Az-Zumar: 54 Al-Alusi's perspective in Ruh Al-Ma'ani interpretation? the focus of the research is Al-Alusi's interpretation of the Nature of Repentance in QS. Az-Zumar: 54.This type of research is included in library research, an analytical study with a qualitative approach. This research also uses thematic interpretation, the primary data source is the book of Tafsir Ruh Al-Ma'ani by Al-Alusi. The results of the findings in this study, etymologically the meaning of repentance in Al-Alusi's view is to return from sin to obedience to Allah, while terminologically repentance is a way to return to Allah SWT, not just the elimination of sins but also the establishment of a better relationship with Allah SWT. While the essence of repentance contained in QS Az-Zumar: 54 Al-Alusi's perspective in the Ruh Al-Ma'ani interpretation is the process of returning to Allah SWT with sincerity before it is too late, because it is driven by love and awareness of the greatness of Allah SWT, not just fear.
