Abstract

As is currently the case, the majority of children cannot read the Quran properly. Even young and emerging adults still read the Quran without paying attention to tajweed and the correct pronunciation of the letters. This is crucial for maintaining accuracy and fluency in reading the Quran, as even a single error in the rules can alter its meaning and lead to sin. The problem raised in this study is how to improve the ability to read and write the Qur'an through local content learning to Read and Write the Qur'an at Ad-Dzikir Pragaan Elementary School, how to implement local content learning to read and write the Qur'an for students and what are the supporting and inhibiting factors in improving the ability to read and write the Qur'an for students at Ad-Dzikir Pragaan Elementary School. To find out more about this research, the researcher used a qualitative research method with a descriptive qualitative type. Data collection in this study used 3 ways, namely interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study are that the learning implemented at Ad-Dzikir Pragaan Elementary School has been implemented since the beginning of this school, and there are several efforts made by teachers to improve students' ability to read and write the Qur'an. Namely; Accustoming students to reading the Quran while simultaneously researching the rules of recitation, encouraging students to check their writing, evaluating their Quran reading through memorization, encouraging students to write the Quran according to the letter placement, and emphasizing the memorization of the Quranic chapters (suras) and requiring memorization of the 30th chapter (juz') for final year students (grade 6). Of course, this approach has both supporting and inhibiting factors.

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of hail in QS. An-Nur/24:43. In the Qur'an, there is only one verse that discusses this phenomenon. This article reviews the thoughts of both a classical and a contemporary exegete, namely the interpretations of Fakhruddin al-Razi and Zaghlul Al-Najjar. Fakhruddin al-Razi’s interpretation has a diverse approach, including rational, theological, philosophical, legal, and fiqhi perspectives. Meanwhile, Zaghlul Al-Najjar’s interpretation follows a scientific approach. This article employs a qualitative method using a library research. It discusses the interpretations of Fakhruddin al-Razi and Zaghlul Al-Najjar regarding the phenomenon of hail in QS. An-Nur/24:43, as well as the similarities and differences between these two exegetes on this phenomenon. The research findings conclude that Fakhruddin al-Razi only explains the formation of clouds through water vapor but does not elaborate on the process of cumulus cloud formation that leads to hail. In contrast, Zaghlul Al-Najjar describes the process of cloud formation through water vapor, the growth of cumulus clouds, the formation of ice within these clouds, and the role of ice in the occurrence of lightning. There is a difference in writing methods and depth of explanation, as Fakhruddin al-Razi uses the tahlili (analytical) method, while Zaghlul Al-Najjar applies the maudhu’i (thematic) approach, focusing solely on scientific verses (ayat kauniyah). However, both exegetes share a key similarity in affirming the scientific miracles of the Qur'an, employing a scientific approach, and integrating Qur’anic science with modern scientific developments.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a fundamental principle in Islamic teachings that emphasizes justice, balance, and proportionality in understanding and practicing religion. This concept has a strong theological foundation in the Qur’an, particularly through the doctrine of wasathiyyah, which positions Muslims as ummatan wasathan. This article aims to examine the historical foundations of religious moderation in the Qur’an and analyze its implications for contemporary Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research, combined with historical analysis and thematic interpretation (tafsīr maudhū‘ī). The data are derived from the Qur’an, classical and contemporary Qur’anic commentaries, Prophetic traditions, and relevant scholarly books and journal articles. The findings reveal that religious moderation in the Qur’an is deeply rooted in the values of justice (‘adl), balance (tawāzun), tolerance (tasāmuh), and humanity (insāniyyah), which were gradually implemented throughout the Makkan and Madinan periods. Furthermore, religious moderation has significant implications for contemporary Islamic education, particularly in strengthening inclusive educational paradigms, integrating moderation values into curricula and learning processes, and enhancing the role of Islamic education in fostering tolerant and inclusive attitudes within plural societies. Therefore, religious moderation serves as a crucial foundation for developing a civilized and contextually relevant Islamic educational system.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the still low level of students' understanding and mastery of the phonetic phenomenon of isymam in the recitation (qiraat) of Imam ‘Asim, particularly in terms of pronunciation. Isymam is one of the rare forms of recitation (qiraat gharīb) that holds significance in the science of Qur’anic recitation and possesses distinct phonetic characteristics that are not represented in writing but are only found in oral practice. The aim of this study is to analyze students’ ability to pronounce isymam in the recitation of Imam ‘Asim, as well as to examine the factors causing pronunciation errors. This is a field study using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and oral tests of Qur’anic reading. The data analysis technique employed is a descriptive-evaluative method, and the results are presented narratively. The findings show that a small number of students still struggle to accurately demonstrate the pronunciation of isymam, mainly because it requires coordination between producing the dammah vowel sound and a simultaneous but voiceless lip movement. Contributing factors to the mispronunciation include limited practice-based qiraat learning in madrasahs, the lack of phonetic Qur’an training, and the absence of dedicated programs for the rare recitations of Imam ‘Asim. Therefore, a phonetic-based approach and intensive training are needed to enhance students' proficiency in reading the Qur’an more fluently in accordance with authentic qiraat rules.

Abstract

The integration of general knowledge and religion in modern Islamic education is a crucial issue in the era of globalization and technological advancement. The main problem raised is the dichotomy between religious knowledge and general knowledge, which hinders the development of holistic Islamic education. The aim of this research is to explore the challenges and opportunities in the integration process, with a focus on philosophical, theological and practical approaches. The research method used is a literature review with qualitative analysis of relevant literature. The research results show that the integration of general knowledge and religion can increase the relevance of Islamic education to the needs of our time, although structural and paradigmatic challenges still constitute the main obstacles. Support from various parties is the key to successfully implementing this integration.

Abstract

Epistemology of moderate Qur’anic interpretation through the integration of riwāyah, ra’yi, and isyārī approaches and its implications for contemporary Islamic education. The study is motivated by the dynamic development of Qur’anic exegesis which, in modern contexts, faces tendencies toward interpretive extremism, either in rigid textual literalism or overly subjective interpretations that risk undermining the authority of the Qur’anic text. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes classical and contemporary tafsīr works as well as relevant literature on Islamic education. The findings reveal that riwāyah emphasizes textual authority and transmission, ra’yi highlights rational reasoning and contextual ijtihād, while isyārī enriches the spiritual and ethical dimensions of interpretation. The integration of these three approaches forms a balanced epistemology of moderate tafsīr that harmonizes text, reason, and spirituality. In the context of contemporary Islamic education, this epistemological framework contributes to a shift in educational goals from mere knowledge transmission toward methodological awareness, curriculum development based on tafsīr epistemology, dialogical learning methods, and the cultivation of moderate, tolerant, and inclusive religious attitudes. This study offers a conceptual contribution to the development of Islamic education that remains faithful to Islamic scholarly tradition while addressing contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of low memorization achievement among the students of Ma’had ‘Aly PPTQ Ibnu Abbas Klaten, where most of them have not reached the target of memorizing five juz each semester. Challenges such as lack of focus, low motivation, weak muraja’ah systems, and discomfort during memorization submission also affect the quality of their memorization. These conditions encouraged the institution to implement the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method as a strategy to improve the students’ memorization progress and quality. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method in memorizing the Qur’an at Ma’had ‘Aly PPTQ Ibnu Abbas Klaten and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its application. This research also aims to determine the extent to which the KLT method contributes to improving the students’ Qur’an memorization quality. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Primary data were obtained from the Head of Ma’had ‘Aly, tahfidz instructors, and students participating in the KLT program. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Source triangulation was used to ensure data validity. The findings show that the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method is implemented through stages such as target setting, intensive tahfidz schedules, supervision by muhafidzah, memorization evaluation programs, and a system for mapping student progress. This method has proven effective in improving memorization quality, increasing motivation, and strengthening the discipline of muraja’ah among the students. Supporting factors include institutional commitment, intensive mentoring, and the supportive environment of the pesantren. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include students’ psychological conditions, time management challenges, and differences in individual memorization abilities. Based on the research results, it is recommended that the KLT program continue to be developed by increasing the variety of memorization methods, strengthening students’ time management, and optimizing motivational guidance. The institution is also advised to enhance its periodic evaluation system and provide additional support for students with slower memorization abilities. Future research may focus on examining the relationship between the KLT method and the psychological aspects of Qur’an memorizers.

Abstract

Research on the Qur'an and Hadith is the primary foundation for the development of Islamic studies. Over time, research models on these two primary sources of Islam have undergone a methodological transformation, from traditional, history-based approaches to contextual, interdisciplinary approaches. This article aims to comprehensively examine research models on the Qur'an and Hadith, both classical and modern, and their relevance in addressing contemporary challenges. This research uses a qualitative approach based on library research. The results indicate that research models on the Qur'an and Hadith are dynamic and adaptive to developments in science, without abandoning the principles of textual authenticity.
