Abstract

In the era of digital disruption, Islamic Education (PAI) institutions face complex challenges in maintaining relevance and the quality of graduates. This research aims to synthesize the fundamental principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) and integrate them into the context of future-oriented Islamic education management. The research method used is qualitative with a library research approach, where data were collected through accredited scientific literature and analyzed using content analysis and theoretical synthesis techniques. The results indicate three main pillars in the implementation of TQM in Islamic educational institutions: 1) Reconceptualization of customer focus, which positions students as a divine "Amanah" (trust) whose potential must be developed to the maximum; 2) Implementation of a continuous improvement cycle through the Plan – Do – Check - Act (PDCA) model, which is viewed as a manifestation of the values of Itqan (professionalism) and Muhasabah (self-evaluation); 3) Synergy of total involvement and visionary leadership based on the principles of Syura (consultation) and Uswah Hasanah (exemplary leadership). This research concludes that the success of TQM in PAI is an orchestration between data-driven professional management and spiritual integrity. These findings provide a theoretical contribution to educational institution managers in building a resilient, authentic quality culture amid global competition.   Keywords: Total Quality Management (TQM), Education Management, Educational Quality, PDCA.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) are the two largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia that form the “two wings” of modernity in Islam Nusantara. Muhammadiyah, founded by KH Ahmad Dahlan in 1912, emphasizes the purification of teachings through modern education, Health, and urban da’wah. NU, born in 1926 under KH Hasyim Asy’ari, preserved the pesantren tradition while adapting to colonialism. Both became the canvas of the history of the Islamic movement from independence to the 1998 Reformation, combining reform and conservation. This study aims to analyze their dialectical role in building an inclusive, tolerant, and progressive Islamic identity amidst socio-political dynamics. Analytical and descriptive qualitative methods were applied, analyzing journals related to Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. Key findings: Muhammadiyah modernized urban areas through thousands of schools and hospitals; NU strengthened rural areas through Kyai and pesantren. Collaboration was evident in the 1945 Jakarta Charter and the 1984 Congress, producing moderate Islam that rejects radicalism, contributing 60% of national political cadres post-New Order. Both create harmony between reform and tradition: Recommendations to strengthen dialogue between factions in the face of contemporary digitalization of da’wah.   Keywords: Muhammadiyah, Islamic Modernization, NU

Abstract

The Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the Kurikulum Merdeka is designed not only to develop cognitive competence, but also to build attitudes of religious moderation and respect for diversity. These values align with the message of QS. Al-Hujurat: 13, which emphasizes human diversity as sunnatullah and the foundation of social ethics. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka for PAI and to explore the role of turāth (classical Islamic texts) in internalizing values of moderation and tolerance at MTs Mambaus Sholihin, a pesantren-based madrasah with a multicultural student background. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation related to PAI instructional practices and institutional policies. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka at MTs Mambaus Sholihin is carried out contextually by integrating the national curriculum with turath texts as instructional sources. Classical books play a significant role in shaping students’ ethics, character, and mutual respect. The internalization of QS. Al-Hujurat: 13 is reflected in the pesantren culture that emphasizes tolerance practices, conflict prevention, and educational approaches in handling student misconduct. This study concludes that the leading turāth approach strengthens the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka PAI in developing religious moderation attitudes within a pesantren-based madrasah environment.   Keywords: Merdeka Curriculum, Islamic Religious Education, Religious Moderation, Turath Texts, QS. Abstract

This article examines the concept of heart education in Imam Al-Ghazali's thought, placing the heart (qalb) as the center of human moral and spiritual development. This research is motivated by the tendency of modern education to emphasize cognitive aspects and academic achievement, while often marginalizing moral and spiritual dimensions. This condition has implications for the emergence of various moral problems and character crises in society, particularly among the younger generation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, which examines Al-Ghazali's main works, such as Ihya' Ulum al-Din, Mizan al-'Amal, and Kimya' al-Sa'adah, as well as supporting literature from relevant scientific books and journals. The analysis is carried out descriptively and analytically to reveal the nature of the heart, its spiritual function, the process of purifying the soul, the purpose of heart education, and the method of moral development offered by Al-Ghazali. The results of the study show that heart education in Al-Ghazali's perspective is a holistic educational system that is not only oriented towards the formation of external behavior, but also emphasizes the transformation of the human heart. Education of the heart encompasses the integration of cognitive, ethical, emotional, and spiritual aspects through the process of tazkiyatun nafs (self-control), controlling desires, cultivating noble morals, and strengthening spirituality. The educational methods used, such as role models, habituation, advice, self-reflection, and self-examination, are considered relevant for application in the context of modern education. Thus, Al-Ghazali's thoughts on the education of the heart can serve as a conceptual foundation for developing more comprehensive character education to address the moral crisis and character degradation in the era of globalization.   Keywords: Heart Education, Al-Ghazali, Heart, Morals, Character

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesian senior high schools as a strategic response to the challenges of digital transformation and the learning characteristics of Generation Z. Using a qualitative library research method, the study synthesizes empirical findings, policy documents, and theoretical perspectives related to curriculum implementation, digital pedagogy, and student digital literacy. The results show that the Merdeka Curriculum is primarily implemented through project-based learning, differentiated instruction, blended learning models, and digital platforms, such as the Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) and Learning Management Systems. Teachers play a crucial role as facilitators, yet many still face difficulties due to limited digital pedagogical competence, inadequate infrastructure, and gaps between policy expectations and school realities. The study also identifies key factors influencing implementation effectiveness, including supportive policy alignment, teacher TPACK mastery, technological readiness, and students’ digital literacy, particularly in critical thinking and ethical use of technology. The conclusion highlights that successful implementation requires strengthening teacher competence, improving digital facilities, and designing learning strategies aligned with Generation Z’s visual, interactive, and collaborative learning preferences. The main scientific contribution of this research lies in the development of the Integrated Digital Learning Model (IDLM), which integrates policy, pedagogy, and generational characteristics to guide more contextual and sustainable implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum within digital learning ecosystems.   Keywords: Merdeka Curriculum, Digital Learning, Generation Z, TPACK Integration, Curriculum Implementation

Abstract

Amid the complexity of ethnic and religious diversity in public schools, religious moderation becomes essential in creating a safe and inclusive educational environment. This study aims to examine the practice of religious moderation within the context of multicultural education, focusing on the experiences of Chinese students at SMP Negeri 2 Kota Pontianak. In a multiethnic and multireligious society like Pontianak, students from minority groups often face challenges in expressing their cultural and religious identities, especially within formal educational settings dominated by majority values. The study explores how values of moderation, such as tolerance, respect for differences, and social harmony, are manifested in daily school practices. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving students, teachers, and school staff. The findings show that the school’s multicultural approach, implemented through curriculum content, interfaith activities, and a culture of dialogue among students, has successfully created an open space for identity expression among Chinese students. The integration of Islamic religious education with the values of religious moderation not only nurtures religiosity but also strengthens social cohesion and inclusive civic identity. This study contributes to the development of adaptive and equitable pedagogical strategies in addressing diversity in formal education.   Keywords: Religious Moderation, Multicultural Education, Chinese Students

Abstract

The transformation of Qur'an interpretation in the digital age has significantly changed the landscape of Islamic knowledge, where access to interpretation is no longer limited to classical literature and formal institutions, but rather extends through digital platforms such as apps, social media, and artificial intelligence. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the transformation of Qur'an interpretation in the digital era by highlighting the tension and synergy between traditional approaches and contemporary innovations. The methods used are a descriptive qualitative approach through literature studies, digital observation of various popular platforms, and content analysis to understand the influence of technology on users' religious understanding. The results of the study show that digitalization has a positive impact in the form of democratization of knowledge and the expansion of the accessibility of Islamic literature that is more practical and inclusive for a wide audience. However, this phenomenon also presents serious challenges in the form of a shift of religious authority from sanad-based legitimacy to algorithmic validation, the risk of simplification of meaning, and the potential spread of invalid interpretations. Evaluation of automated systems (AI) even shows a low consistency limitation compared to the decisions of scholars. This study concludes the importance of harmonious integration between authentic traditional methods and modern technology, as well as the need to strengthen Islamic digital literacy and the active role of religious institutions to maintain the authenticity of interpretation in cyberspace.   Keywords: Tafsir Al-Qur'an, Digital Era, Islamic Tradition, Innovation, Islamic Literacy.

Abstract

Islamic education emphasizes character building and moral conduct (adab) as fundamental aspects of the learning process. This study is motivated by the importance of sincere intention, careful selection of teachers, and the synergistic roles of parents, teachers, and students in shaping students’ character and attaining the blessing of knowledge. This research aims to examine the concept of character development from the perspective of Shaykh az-Zarnuji as presented in Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim, as well as to analyze the relational roles of parents, teachers, and students in achieving educational success within Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research, with Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim as the primary source and supported by relevant scholarly literature. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that character development is achieved through sincere intention for the sake of Allah, selectivity in choosing knowledgeable and morally upright teachers, the cultivation of virtuous conduct toward oneself, teachers, and peers, and the optimal use of time through spiritual activities such as remembrance (dhikr), worship, supplication, and deliberation. Furthermore, the study highlights that educational success and the nobility of knowledge largely depend on the synergistic roles of parents as primary educators and role models, teachers as intellectual and moral guides, and students as learners who demonstrate humility and earnestness in seeking knowledge. The harmonious interaction among these three elements is a fundamental prerequisite for holistic character formation, noble conduct, and the attainment of blessed knowledge in Islamic education.   Keywords: Character Development, Synergy, Parents, Teacher, Student
