Abstract

The purpose of this case study was to investigate how the Group Investigation strategy is used in learning English in the classroom, and how it affects learning outcomes, as well as how Merdeka Curriculum is implemented.  This study intended to add to the existing literature on the effectiveness of Presentation with Practice as a learning method in the context of comprehension and vocabulary acquisition, particularly in developing students' skills in learning English. Data was collected from interviews, observations, documentation, and report of students in SMAN 03 Mandau and SMKN 02 Pinggir.  The results showed that the strategy of Provision of Materials with Practice was effective for teaching English, especially for students' comprehension and vocabulary growth.  The use of Projector and Internet as Learning Media, and in the strategy of Presentation with Practice provides an opportunity for students to easily share their views and engage in an effective learning process while working together.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of using Padlets in writing descriptive texts. This research is using experimental method. The research will be conducted in schools at SMAN 7 Mandau. The population in this study was class XI SMAN 7 Mandau. The samples used in this study were students of class XI IPS 1 which consisted of 31 students as experimental class and students of class XI IPS 2 which consisted of 33 students as the control class. Data collection techniques used are tests, questionnaires and documentation. Checking validity of the data using statistical analysis techniques. The result showed that the result obtained from the post test showed that in the experimental class, which was original only 12 students (50%) who scored more than KKM to 21 students (88%). Meanwhile, in the control class, which was originally 13 students (54%) who scored more than the KKM, it became 17 students (71%). So, it can be concluded that there is significant effect of using the Padlet application on the motivation to learn to write descriptive texts for class XI students of SMAN 7 Mandau. Based on the results of hypothesis testing , the value of sig. (2-tailed) is 0.007 which means more less than 0.05 so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.

Abstract

This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore the implementation of the English education program at Ibadurrahman Boarding School (IDBS) Duri, Riau. The research participants included grade IX students categorized by high, medium, and low academic performance, as well as teachers and school staff. The research findings show that English language learning activities at IDBS Duri are highly structured and disciplined, starting from morning until afternoon. Students demonstrate high academic achievements in English subjects, supported by additional tutoring from competent teachers. Participation in English extracurricular activities is also very high, which helps students develop communication skills and confidence. Additionally, IDBS Duri has successfully integrated Islamic values into English learning through contextual approaches and religious activities. In conclusion, IDBS Duri has created a holistic English education environment, combining academic aspects and Islamic character development. This approach not only enhances students' academic achievements but also helps them develop into individuals with noble character and high ethics. This study can serve as a model for other schools in implementing a comprehensive English education program.

Abstract

The hospitality industry in the digital era requires its staffto have qualified English skills. This study examines thechallenges and opportunities for students of the D3Hospitality Study Program at Prasetiya MandiriPolytechnic in learning English in the digital era. Theresearch method used is a prospective case study with aqualitative approach. Data was collected through in-depthinterviews with students, lecturers, and hotel staff. Thestudy results show that D3 Hospitality students facevarious challenges in learning English in the digital era,such as the ease of being distracted by gadgets, difficultychoosing quality learning materials, and lack of motivationto study independently. On the other hand, the digital eraalso offers various opportunities to improve Englishlearning, such as easy access to learning materials,different learning methods, and global interaction withnative English speakers. Based on the findings of theresearch, practical strategies were formulated to improveEnglish learning at D3 Hospitality of Prasetiya MandiriPolytechnic in the digital era, namely: (1) the use ofexciting and interactive educational technology, (2) thedevelopment of learning materials that are contextual andrelevant to the needs of the hospitality industry, (3)increasing students' motivation to learn independently,and (4) the creation of a positive English learning culturein the study program environment

Abstract

This study was carried out find out. The Effect of Using Hello English Application on Students' Ability In Writing Active And Passive Voice At Eleventh Grade At SMAN 9 Mandau”. The descriptive quantitative was applied to describe data, with a quasi-experimental research design. The study population was all 280 students in grade XI consisting of 9 classes. Due to the large population, the researcher took a sample of 57 students. In this study, the average pre-test score for the experimental class was 63.86 and the control class was 60.57. Meanwhile, the average post-test score of the experimental class was 76.55 and the control class was 68. It can be concluded that there is a difference in the average of students' speaking ability during the pretest and posttest. This means that there is a significant influence on students' writing ability through the Hello English Application.

Abstract

This study was carried out find out. The Effect Of Using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) Toward Student’s Writing Ability in Descriptive Text at Tenth Grade of SMAN 9 Mandau.”. The descriptive quantitative was applied to describe data, with a quasi-experimental research. The study population was all 336 students in grade X consisting of 9 classes. Due to the large population, the researcher  took a sample of 70 students using cluster random sampling technique. In this study, the average pre-test score for the experimental class was 65.74 and the control class was 54.85. Meanwhile, the average post-test score of the experimental class was 76.58 and the control class was 68.62. Based on the probability scores gathered from SPSS 22, it was shown that the sig. (2-tailed) value for Pair 1 was 0.000 < 0.05. This indicated that there were significant differences in the average students’ writing ability between the pre-test and post-test. This meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected)

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine The effect of using WhatsApp media toward students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the tenth grade of SMAN 9 Mandau. Quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design. The research population is all class X which totals 329 students consisting of 9 classes. Due to the large population, the researcher took a sample of 68 students. In this study, the average pre-test score of the experimental class was 65.64 and the control class was 54.73. Meanwhile, the experimental post-test class was 76.47 and the control class was 68.44. It can be concluded that there is a significant influence on the ability to read narrative text through WhatsApp media.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students’ ability in forming passive voice at the 11th grade of SMAN 6 Tanjungpinang. The objective of this research was to investigate the students’ ability at the 11th grade IPA I of SMAN 6 Tanjungpinang which consist of 20 students in forming passive voice. This research was an analytical study using the purposive sampling method, which was just one class as participants. The design of this research used descriptive quantitative method both quantitative was used to present the result in this research and descriptive to explain data systematically, factually, and accurately. Technique for analyzing in this research were collected the student’s test which focused on the forming of passive voice in tenses, checking the test and giving the score percentage, and categorizing the data based on the theory of the interval score by DP. Harris. After analyzing it could be seen that students’ ability in forming passive voice at the 11th grade of SMAN 6 Tanjung Pinang was considered good category, since the mean of students’ score was 73, which were specifically the classification indicated that no one student or 0 % were considered very poor, nine students or 45 % were considered excellent, six students or 30 % were considered good, three students or 15 % were considered fair, and two students or 10 % were considered poor.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the perceptions of students in the English Education Program toward ChatGPT at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Hubbulwathan Duri. The research adopted the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach with a quantitative method. Data was collected through a closed-ended questionnaire completed by 22 students. The questionnaire utilized a Likert scale to assess students’ perceptions of the ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) of ChatGPT in learning. The research found that students have positive perceptions of ChatGPT, particularly in enhancing learning effectiveness, time efficiency, and information accessibility. However, challenges such as dependence on technology and the occasional irrelevance of information quality were also identified. Data analysis was conducted by converting questionnaire scores into percentages to illustrate the levels of acceptance and satisfaction among students toward ChatGPT. This study was expected to provide insights for educational institutions and technology developers regarding the optimal integration of ChatGPT in learning. The findings also highlight the importance of a balanced approach to utilizing technology to support effective and innovative learning.

Abstract

The aims of the study were to examine the effect of Task-Based Instruction (TBI) on enhancing the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at MA Hubbulwathan Duri. Using a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, it compares students' speaking abilities before and after TBI implementation and examines differences between the experimental group (TBI) and the control group (traditional instruction). The research questions included: (1) How are students' speaking skills before using TBI? (2) How are students' speaking skills after using TBI? (3) Is there a significant difference in students' speaking skills after using TBI?  Data analysis through paired t-tests showed that the experimental group demonstrated significant improvement in speaking skills, particularly in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and fluency, after receiving TBI. Meanwhile, the control group, which received traditional instruction, showed minimal progress. The findings reveal a significant difference in speaking performance between the two groups, emphasizing TBI's effectiveness in enhancing speaking skills. This study highlights the potential of Task-Based Instruction as an effective teaching method for improving students' speaking Skills.
