Abstract

This study explores and evaluates the effectiveness of integrating roleplay methods and multimedia technology in improving students' English-speaking skills in the hospitality industry. Using an action research approach, this study was conducted among third-semester by totalling sampling 30 students majoring in travel business at Prasetiya Mandiri Polytechnic Bogor. This research method includes three cycles of action: planning, action, observation, and reflection. In the planning stage, roleplay scenarios relevant to real situations in the hospitality industry are designed and combined with multimedia technologies such as video tutorials then participate in roleplay activities integrated with these multimedia elements. The results showed that integrating role play and multimedia technology significantly improved students' speaking skills. Students become more confident in using English, can communicate more effectively, and show improvement in pronunciation, intonation, and proper use of vocabulary. This study concludes that the integration of Role play with multimedia technology is a practical approach to improving English-speaking skills among hospitality students.

Abstract

Community Service activities carried out by four lecturers of the Prasetiya Mandiri Polytechnic play a crucial role in the preservation of Palembang City culture and tourism, especially the Telok Abang Ship tradition related to the commemoration of Independence Day on August 17. This program prioritizes collaboration between the academic world and the community in preserving and promoting Palembang's rich cultural heritage. The Telok Abang ship is not only a cultural symbol, but also an important part of the identity and pride of the people of Palembang. The involvement of the younger generation in this preservation shows a strategic effort to instill awareness about the importance of preserving local culture and strengthening the spirit of nationalism. In addition, this activity shows the significant contribution of universities in supporting the preservation of local culture and tourism through community service programs. Thus, this program is not only successful in preserving cultural traditions, but also in developing local tourism and strengthening national identity.

Abstract

Abstract. Self-directed learning (SDL) is critical in modern education, empowering learners to independently manage their learning processes and fostering lifelong learning. Despite its advantages, SDL presents significant challenges, including cognitive overload, motivational barriers, and ineffective decision-making. This study explores the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance SDL by providing personalized decision assistance. Using a qualitative approach—through case studies, expert interviews, and literature reviews—the study examines the use of AI-driven tools such as adaptive learning platforms, personalized recommendation systems, and intelligent tutoring systems. Findings reveal that these technologies improve resource selection, learning efficiency, and engagement by offering real-time, adaptive feedback and personalized learning paths. Participants reported increased autonomy, reduced cognitive load, and increased learners’ motivation, leading to measurable improvements in learning outcomes. However, limitations such as over-reliance on AI and the lack of emotional and contextual understanding underscore the need for a hybrid approach that combines AI with human oversight. This study highlights the potential of AI to significantly reshape and enhance self-directed learning (SDL) by making it more personalized, efficient, and accessible. It also offers recommendations for integrating AI into educational practices in ways that balance technological innovation with essential human-centred guidance

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in English language learning as a means to enhance students' language literacy in Indonesia, particularly in response to the low literacy levels reported by PISA. The primary challenge addressed is the lack of understanding and ability among students to evaluate texts, largely due to limited access to interactive and practical learning resources. The purpose of this research is to explore the impact of ICT on improving various aspects of language literacy, including reading comprehension, information connection, and text evaluation skills. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that ICT usage significantly improves students’ language literacy, especially in text comprehension and analysis. Based on previous studies and current technological applications, ICT has proven to be effective in enhancing both English language learning and literacy development. With greater accessibility, increased interactivity, and the support of innovative tools, ICT offers a more modern and effective alternative to traditional teaching methods. In conclusion, despite challenges related to access and distribution, ICT plays a positive and influential role in supporting the development of students’ language literacy.
