Abstract

the aim of this reseach is to find elaborate the roles of teachers in English language teaching (ELT. Starting from free trade, the increasing number of foreign companies established in Indonesia, so that the use of international languages such as English is very widespread. Of course, aspiring entrepreneurs and job seekers have to master English so they can keep up with the times in this globalization era. If you are still in school or college, then you have the opportunity to learn and master English. If you have graduated from school or college, you should be ready to enter the world of work with the English skills needed by your place of work. To acquire good communication skills or to excel in communication skills, one has to acquire expertise in all the four skills. They are Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Before students are able to master these 4 skills, students have to develop interest towards the subject or language. This is where the important role of the teacher will appear.

Abstract

Abstract: This case study intended to analyze the higher graders’ English learning difficulties of the Islamic Education Guidance and Counselling study program and Islamic Education Management. This study mainly focused on finding students’ difficulties in mastering English competency. It was conducted in Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT) Buntet Pesantren Cirebon by involving 40 students who are also as Santri and a lecturer as the subjects or the researcher. The researcher used both classical and individual approaches in gathering both qualitative and quantitative data. The procedures used context, input, process, and product/CIPP-Evaluations Model for its benefit to increase teaching quality. The data was analyzed by using McDonough & McDonough Model, i.e.: (1) exploration on both students’ learning processes and the results; (2) analyzing the results of exploration through questionnaire, interviewing with students; (3) conducting peer-debriefing, i.e. interviewing with other lecturers related to, the methods, syllabus content, whether they have matched with the students’ needs. The findings showed that students’ English learning difficulties for: (1) Their sense of being-forced; (2) Low mastery on the basic concept/intakes; (3) Less-endorsement from their environment; (4) Forget factor; (5) Having less-chance to practice. In reference with the findings, it was suggested that teachers and institution should facilitate and give high motivation for their students’ English learning process.

Abstract

Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institution that studies religious knowledge (tafaqquh fi al-dîn) with an emphasis on moral formation of students so that they can practice it with the guidance of kiai and make the kitab kuning book as the primary source and the mosque as the center of activity. The growth of Pesantren as a traditional Islamic boarding school in the urban area has demonstrated that there have been changes in the pesantren itself. However, its existence has not been influenced by sociopolitical, economical, or cultural changes, it does not mean Pesantren does not face problems and challenges externally or internally. This article will talk about some issues such as the development of Pesantren: historical point of view, Pondok Pesantren today and of course the challenges which are occurring around.

Abstract

The aim of the reseach is to elaborate the use of  the imagery in the novel: The Client. Starting from the definition of Imagery, the imagery found in the novel, then to find out what John Grisham’s - as the writer of the novel - intention to use imagery in his novel. The objectives of analysis is to have some knowledge deeper about the use of imagery in The Client by John Grisham and how he takes the readers into Mark Sway’s traumatic experience and how he helps the readers understand Mark Sway’s position through imagery found. This study adopts library research (Library Research) which contains an in-depth collection of material on one or several subjects (Young, 1983; p. 188). This study covers the inclusion of primary sources as well as secondary sources. There are 5 types of imagery found in The Client. They are Visual Imagery, Auditory Imagery, Internal Sensation Imagery, Olfactory Imagery and Tactile Imagery.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate Kahoot's efficacy as an online test and its effects on students' academic performance. 15 students from the management major were chosen as research participants by purposive sampling for this study at STIA Satya Negara. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this investigation. Interviews and questionnaires were the research tools used in this study. The purpose of the study's questionnaire was to learn how students felt about Kahoot as a digital evaluation tool used for in-class online quizzes. Additionally, interviews that were semi-structured were done to find out how lecturers and students felt about Kahoot as a digital evaluation tool. According to the study's findings, Kahoot is actually used in EFL lessons. According to the findings of the student impression survey, the majority of students more than 70% are happy with the Kahoot application. The academic success of students is enhanced with Kahoot. The progression of the daily and weekly quizzes demonstrates that student performance has greatly improved from the first week, midterm, to final semester exams.

Abstract

A model for better educational practices is being developed as a result of the expansion of educational research as a branch of science, according to the researchers working in this area. Research and Development (R&D) Method is one of the best model designs. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research methodology that depicts the scenario as it relates to an indicator or the current status of the findings in the field. In this study, the methods for gathering data and information were interviewing, and documenting studies of the necessary data sources. Abstract

Professional development of EFL Teachers is seen as a way to maintain and enhance the quality of teachers. The acquired knowledge does not only bring about improvement in the teaching process, but also leads to career growth. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach, which describes the situation as it is about an indication, or the state of the findings in the field. This article discusses the concept of professional development in the field of EFL teaching which is distinctive from ESL and other subjects. Abstract

The term "English for Specific Purposes" (ESP) refers to a method of teaching English that is centered on the learner's objectives and needs. The ESP technique is a well-liked option in the context of learning English in Indonesia, both at higher schools or universities, especially for students outside of the English major. This method is also consistent with government policies in the area of education, which place an emphasis on the goals of learning English, namely to improve students' proficiency in using English, particularly for academic needs and professional careers with an emphasis on reading skills that enable students to understand authentic material topics relevant to their majors and effectively. This study uses library research, which compiles extensive documentation on a single or a number of topics. Both original sources and secondary sources are used in this investigation. Abstract

This paper discussed the translation error from a business letter made based on American Translation Association (ATA's) made by EFL Learners'. In this research, the researchers used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source in this research is two EFL Learners' who are in translation class with better English skills than other data. Data collection in this study was carried out by taking two data from a total of 36 business letter translating task data given by translation class lecturers. The data is classified based on the type of error according to ATA's Framework for Standard Error Making Classification. The results of the analysis show that there are 18 translation errors in 11 types of 26 types of translation errors with style error as the most frequently found error. Style error is the error that has the highest nominal by appearing five times out of 18 the number of errors with a percentage 27,8%. Finding errors from the two data proves that EFL Learners' who are studying translation studies still have deficiencies. Educators and students must work together so that translation errors produced by EFL Learners' can be reduced.

Abstract

This study's goal is to determine the variables that affect students' motivation to learn English at Darussalam Polytechnic Palembang's Travel Business study program. The basis of this research is seen in the weak mastery of English possessed by students of the travel business study program. This study also aims to find specific motivations that best influence learning English. This study used a qualitative method by giving participants a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements and a Likert scale. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling. The data from the questionnaire were analyzed using statistical procedures and described descriptively. The findings of this investigation indicate that external motivational factors have a better contribution than internal motivational factors, and in external motivation, there is the quality of the instructor and teaching materials, which are the most dominant sub-factors for maintaining learning motivation.
