Abstract

This bibliometric analysis explores global trends, author productivity, institutional and country contributions, citation patterns, and thematic relationships in the literature linking smoking and mental health. Data from the Scopus database were retrieved using specific keyword combinations related to smoking and mental health, resulting in 1,782 eligible articles after filtering for research quality. The study examines publication trends, identifies high-impact studies, and maps thematic clusters in the field. Results indicate a notable increase in publications after 2000, driven by growing recognition of smoking's impact on mental well-being and the integration of mental health considerations in tobacco control policies. Thematic mapping reveals key areas of focus, including smoking cessation interventions, the neuropsychological effects of nicotine, and socio-economic factors influencing smoking behavior. Despite significant progress, critical gaps remain, particularly in research from low- and middle-income countries, minority populations, and the long-term effectiveness of interventions. This study calls for a more inclusive approach to future research to develop culturally sensitive and accessible interventions, ultimately improving global health outcomes.

Abstract

The transition of young workers to youth Not in Employment, Education, and Training (NEET) is part of the problems of employment and welfare of the Indonesian population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the 2019 and 2020 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) data, this study aims to explain the characteristics and determinants of young workers transitioning to unemployed and inactive NEET compared to remaining employed using multinomial logistic regression, in all and gender model. Most of the young workers who are transitioning into youth NEET are concentrated in Java. Gender, education, digitalization, internet, skills, employment status, and business fields significantly affect the transition of young workers to unemployed and inactive youth NEET. In addition, minimum wages and GRDP, also affect the transition to NEET. Specifically, transition to youth NEET in males are influenced by regional labor market conditions, while females are more influenced by demographic factors and human capital. This research implies the urgency of an education and training investment policy that focuses on digitalization for young workers. Furthermore, COVID-19 gives important lessons about the flexibility of the labor market for young people and the importance of gender-specific employment policies as well as ease of access in human capital investment for female.

Abstract

Indonesia is encountering consecutive health problems caused by malnutrition. The latter poses long-term effects on children’s development. As this issue continue its prominence, using linear regression and binary logistic with time lag to analyze data from Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2007 and 2014 shall support the analysis of issue. Previous results from the models indicated that maternal decision-making in their share of food expenditure has a weak correlation for stunted children's experience. However, this study revealed different results. It suggested that involvement in from men in nutritional knowledge, skills, and financial backing to advance women's roles contributes to better children's nutritional outcomes. This study proved urgency to reassess and address the role of women in household decision-making to tackle issues of malnutrition in Indonesia.

Abstract

In 2019-2022, the percentage of child labor in eastern Indonesia has consistently been higher than in western Indonesia. However, research specifically focusing on child labor in eastern Indonesia is limited. This study aims to examine the conditions and factors influencing child labor in eastern Indonesia. Utilizing data from the August 2022 Indonesia National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), the study employs descriptive analysis and binary logistic regression. Findings reveal that 5-6 out of 100 children in eastern Indonesia are engaged in child labor. Predominantly, they work in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, though there are regions where most are employed in other sectors. Factors such as gender, age, school enrollment status, the educational level and occupation of the household head, marital status, position as the eldest child, household size, residential classification, the presence of other working children in the household, and the interaction between age and school enrollment status significantly influence child labor in eastern Indonesia. The government should establish specific programs or divisions within the Indonesian child protection commission at regional levels to collect data, mediate, and provide tailored solutions to effectively address child labor issues across different regions.

Abstract

The achievement of unmet need for family planning in the last two years has decreased from 14,7 percent in 2022 to 11,5 percent in 2023. However, that rate is still high because 2024 RPJMN target of unmet need for FP in Indonesia is 7,4 percent. The policies made by the government to reduce unmet need for FP are utilizing ICT and improving access to family planning services. Thus, this research aims to study the relationship between utilizing ICT and access with unmet need for FP in Indonesia. Based on data from 2017 IDHS, the analytical method used in this research are binary and multinomial logistic regression. The results show that the variable of ICT’s devices has a negative relationship with total unmet need for FP, for spacing, and limiting births. Internet has a positive relationship with total unmet need for FP and for spacing births, but negative relationship with unmet need for limiting births. Access to family planning services has a negative relationship with total unmet need for FP and for limiting births. So, it can be concluded that reducing the womens’s opportunities to have unmet need for FP can be done by utilizing ICT and access to FP services.

Abstract

The high prevalence of teenage smoking in Indonesia is a serious problem. This study aims to analyze the influence of the smoking behavior of close individuals to teenagers, including parents, family, and social environment, on the smoking behavior of teenagers in Indonesia. Using the National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) 2021 Data, with a sample of 187,277 adolescent individuals. The results of this study indicate that the smoking behavior of parents, family, and a smoking environment has a significant positive influence on teenage smoking behavior. Parents who smoke increase the likelihood of teenagers smoking by 1.61 times, while smoking family members also contribute to an increased likelihood by 1.57 times. The smoking environment has a relatively smaller influence with an increase of 1.11 times. Other factors such as age, gender, and adolescent school participation also have a significant influence on teenage smoking behavior, with males having a much higher likelihood of smoking compared to females. These findings provide important insights into the role of close individuals in shaping teenage smoking behavior and underscore the importance of adolescent smoking prevention efforts in Indonesia

Abstract

One of the social problems in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia is high rates of under-registered child marriage. Marriage registration is an obligation in marriage legislation in Indonesia and also an issue of human rights. Studies on marriage registration are very limited in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to examine the critical determinants that affect the provision of having a marriage certificate in case of child marriage in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The study used the 2022 Indonesia National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS) data. The analysis was done using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression. The results indicate that the variables included in the analysis are statistically significant. The odds ratio indicates that women are more likely to register their marriage than men. It is more likely that people who lived in the urban areas, people who married after 16 years, people who had been educated in senior high school and above, people who were employed, and people who accessed the internet/social media were more likely to register their marriage. People who had not joined Bank Accounts, who came from rich families, and who had social insurance from the government were in line with those who did not register their marriage (odd ratio=1). The finding in this study concluded that gender, age at marriage, place of residence, wealth index, education, working status, joint bank account, media exposure, and receiving social insurance from the government are the leading determinants of registered child marriage in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Furthermore, there is a need to educate the importance of registering a marriage to society more intensively and the policy makers should campaign awareness of existing marriage certificates.

Abstract

Indonesia has entered a period of aging population. The number of elderly people has increased sharply without social security ownership, making the elderly population vulnerable to poverty. Financial demands make the elderly must continue to work in their old age, even though their biological and psychological conditions are declining. The study aims to analyzes the effect of social insurance (pension insurance and health insurance) on the work participation of the elderly population which is controlled based on individual, household, and social characteristics. Using secondary data from the 2020 National Socioeconomic Survey and analyzed using logistic biner regression, this study found that the ownership of pension security and health insurance has a significant negative effect on the work participation of the elderly. Elderly people who are heads of households, have low education, male, live in rural areas, have no health problems, have a large number of working family members, and whose economic conditions are below the poverty line tend to continue working at retirement age.

Abstract

Abstract. Ideally, government would be more comprehensive in looking at poverty alleviation issues; not only on the indicator of poverty incidence. They needs analysis related to poverty gap, to find out how poor are the poor, so that it becomes input for more effective poverty reduction. This research aims to analyze the diversity of poverty gap at the household level in Jambi Province according to regional type and socio-economic characteristics. Poverty gap is expressed as the gap between the per capita expenditure of poor households and the Poverty Line (PL). Using Susenas data for 2020-2022, this research found that half of poor households had a gap of around 11-15% of PL and few of them were above 50%. This means that the challenge of poverty in Jambi Province is actually greater in handling poor households whose existence is not too far from PL. The results of the Mann-Whitney test found significant differences in gaps according to a number of household characteristics, but differed between regions. The implication is that the Jambi Provincial government, in its efforts to accelerate poverty reduction, can focus more on urban areas by paying attention to the characteristics of poor households which are closely related to variations in the poverty gap.
