Kariwari adalah rumah adat suku Tobati (yang secara etimologis berarti “manusia sejati dari matahari”) yang bermukim di pesisir teluk Youtefa, Jayapura. Struktur bangunan Kariwari berbentuk limas segi delapan berjenjang tiga. Atap Kariwari disusun dari daun sagu. Seluruh bangunan bertumpu pada satu tiang utama di tengah. Bagian dalam Kariwari terdiri dari satu ruang luas tanpa sekat. Kariwari berfungsi sebagai tempat diselenggarakannya pesta-pesta adat, ritus inisiasi anak-laki-laki, pentradisian makna dan nilai-nilai hidup suku Tobati, serta sebagai tempat penyimpanan benda-benda pusaka adat. Jurnal Kariwari adalah jurnal yang diterbitkan oleh Sekolah Tinggi Pastoral Kateketik Santo Yohanes Rasul Jayapura. Jurnal ini membahas persoalan pastoral Gereja meliputi masalah: Pendidikan, Katekese, Teologi, Fenomenologi Agama, Liturgi, dan permasalahan umat lainnya. Jurnal ini terbit 2 (dua) kali dalam setahun pada bulan Januari dan Juli.

Abstract

The task of the laity is to "direct the world to Christ." This does not mean forming a Christian society, but creating the possibility of believing in Christ, allowing the attitude of faith from the human side. Faith is not a spontaneous natural reaction, it is not an instinct that occurs automatically and is forced, nor is it an action taken because it is forced, but is free and autonomous. In this situation, in all the reviews described here, the service and role of lay people are placed.

Abstract

a well known axiome extra ecclesiam nulla salus is frequently misintrepreted an exclusive meaning that only the member of the church will entertain salvation from Christ. Placed in historical context, the original formulation of the axiome is not intended so, that it is a task of the Church and theologians to study germs of the universality of the salvation Jesus Christ has brought to the world. Particular interpretation offered here is that of J. Dupuis who elaborated theological endeavours of Latin fathers: Augustine and Origens who presented Jesus enveloped in theology of history; and Greek Fathers: Justine, Ireneus, and Clemens who furnished Jesus Christ as Logos.

Abstract

Across the history of Christianity, eros, a dimension of love, is considered a love that cannot reach God or even into the love of God. This view shows that the source of eros is not God. Eros is always seen as love that is of human being, and therefore cannot be compared with agape. Based on the view, in this paper I try to show that the source of the eros is God. Eros can be aligned with agape; the unity of eros and agape can be found in God's love. The unity of dimensions of love: eros and agape, is also considered the real basis of incarnation of Christ. I developed the argument, following the Encyclical letter Deus Caritas est on perichoresis of the Trinity and elaborating some theologians' proposition on the relation between eros and agape.

Abstract

Bimbingan merupakan salah satu aspek yang berfungsi untuk memberikan dorongan kepada setiap siswa di sekolah dalam meraih keberhasilan dalam studi. Perkembangan kepribadian siswa terbentuk melalui proses belajar dengan lingkungannya. Kepercayaaan diri bagian dari kepribadian siswa dan ini merupakan faktor penting bagi keberhasilan siswa untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungannya. Dengan kepercayaan dirinya ini maka siswa dapat berkembang dan dapat menemukan potensi-potensi yang ada dalam dirinya. Tidak semua siswa memiliki kepercayaan diri yang teguh, guru bimbingan dan konseling memiliki peran yang penting dalam memupuk kepercayaan diri siswa. Layanan bimbingan konseling diberikan untuk semua siswa, agar setiap siswa dapat menentukan bakat-bakat, minat-minat maupun potensi-potensinya.

Abstract

Work is an essential aspect of human life and is often associated with the pursuit of well-being. However, many fail to recognize that work is not solely oriented toward material fulfillment but also carries a significant spiritual dimension. This study aims to reveal the theological values of work based on 2 Thessalonians 3:10, which reflects the Apostle Paul's teaching on the responsibility of labor within the Christian faith. The research employs a literature study method with an exegetical approach to the text of 2 Thessalonians 3:10, focusing on the Greek verb ergazesthai, the infinitive form of ergazomai, which signifies working actively and responsibly. The findings show that although Paul does not explicitly use modern terminology such as "professional," his concept of work includes elements of skill, competence, commitment, precision, and dedication of time, effort, and thought. Paul emphasizes that work is a moral and spiritual obligation, not only to meet physical needs but also as a testimony of faith. This theological reflection affirms that Christians are called to work professionally, with integrity and a spirit of service, following the example set by Jesus Christ during His life.

Abstract

This research analyzes the competency gaps among graduates of the Catholic Religious Education Study Program at Saint James Catholic College of Merauke from both alumni and user perspectives. Employing a case study design with descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data, the study involved 45 alumni from the 2020-2024 graduation period and 45 graduate users in South Papua. Data collection was conducted through structured surveys, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Research findings reveal significant competency gaps in digital skills (-24.5%), multicultural communication (-18.3%), and pastoral leadership (-15.5%), while pastoral catechetical competency demonstrates a solid foundation with the smallest gap (-4.3%). Contributing factors include curriculum limitations that have not been responsive to technological developments, limited technology infrastructure, and post-pandemic digital transformation creating new competency demands. The dispersed geographical conditions of South Papua with the multicultural complexity of 20 ethnic groups add challenges for graduates in integrating Catholic values with local wisdom. Despite relatively high user satisfaction levels (4.51 on a scale of 5), there has been an increased demand for digital competency by 45%, social advocacy skills by 42%, and conflict management by 38% during 2020-2024. The research recommends responsive curriculum development, technology infrastructure strengthening, enhanced strategic partnerships with user institutions, and continuous professional development programs to bridge competency gaps.

Abstract

Keuskupan Jayapura merupakan salah satu dari lima keuskupan di Papua. Pusat keuskupan ini terletak di ibu kota Provinsi Papua. Keuskupan Jayapura memiliki 4 dekenat dan 28 paroki. Dalam artikel ini kami akan menyajikan kesaksian penulis berdasarkan pengalaman hidup dan karya beliau di Keuskupan Jayapura. Bila berbicara tentang seluruh proses karya pastoral di Keuskupan Jayapura, tentu saja tidak dapat dilepaskan dari peran para misionaris Fransiskan di Papua. Para misionaris melalui pertolongan Roh Kudus mewartakan Injil Kristus di Keuskupan Jayapura sehingga benih-benih Injil itu masih terasa oleh umat hingga kini kita memiliki seorang uskup asli Papua, Mgr. Yan You, Pr. Dalam tugas memanggil dan mewartakan para misionaris di Keuskupan Jayapura tentu saja tidak berjalan mulus karena banyaknya tantangan dan hambatan yang mereka alami. Dalam situasi demikian para misionaris tidak menyerah karena mereka dituntun oleh Roh Tuhan untuk terus menyebarkan kabar baik kepada sesama. Akhirnya, berkat upaya para misionaris, Keuskupan Jayapura akhirnya terbentuk menjadi Gereja Partikular hingga kini. Berkat karya Roh Kudus, Keuskupan Jayapura dapat berpartisipasi dalam misi Allah Tritunggal di tanah Papua dan kini dipimpin oleh seorang uskup asli Papua, yaitu Mgr. Yan You.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Shared Christian Praxis (SCP) catechesis model to enhance Catholic Youth (OMK) involvement in church life at St. John the Apostle Station Rawa Biru. The low participation of OMK (only 15% of 40 active members) serves as the research background. A qualitative method with participatory action research design was employed through observation, in-depth interviews with 6 informants, and documentation of catechesis implementation. Thomas Groome's SCP model was applied in two meetings with relevant themes. Research findings reveal three factors causing low involvement: economic (priority on livelihood as the dominant factor), internal (lack of motivation and self-confidence), and external (minimal family support and absence of structured formation). SCP implementation received positive responses despite limited participation. Participants showed progression from passive attitudes to greater openness in sharing experiences. The SCP model effectively increased Christian identity awareness, self-confidence, and involvement commitment, although its impact remains limited. The research concludes that the SCP model proves effective but requires systemic support and long-term consistency. This model offers a contextual and participatory catechesis alternative, integrating life experiences with faith traditions. Recommendations include developing holistic pastoral programs, enhancing local catechist capacity, and strengthening multi-level accompaniment systems.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menyingkap identitas fundamental Yesus sebagaimana disampaikan oleh penginjil Markus. Metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah pendekatan naratif biblis, dengan menelusuri bagaimana penulis Injil Markus memperkenalkan Yesus sebagai Kristus dan Anak Allah dalam dinamika pewahyuan yang progresif melalui peristiwa, dialog, dan kesaksian berbagai tokoh dari data narasi teks Injil Markus. Kajian ini mengajukan hipotesa bahwa struktur dan alur naratif Markus menunjukkan suatu perjalanan teologis dari pengenalan yang samar menuju pengakuan penuh atas Yesus sebagai Anak Allah dalam penderitaan dan wafat-Nya di salib. Temuan dalam analisis ini adalah adanya tiga gelar utama Yesus dalam Injil Markus, yakni Kristus, Anak Allah, dan Anak Manusia, yang ketiganya saling melengkapi dalam menggambarkan misteri identitas dan misi keselamatan-Nya.   This study aims to uncover the fundamental identity of Jesus as presented by the evangelist Mark. The method used in this study is the biblical-narrative approach, tracing how the author of the Gospel of Mark introduces Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God within the progressive dynamic of revelation through events, dialogues, and the testimonies of various characters based on the narrative data of the Gospel text. This study hypothesizes that the structure and narrative flow of Mark reveal a theological journey from a vague understanding to the full acknowledgment of Jesus as the Son of God in His suffering and death on the cross. The findings of this analysis show that there are three main titles of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark: Christ, the Son of God, and the Son of Man, all of which complement each other in portraying the mystery of His identity and salvific mission.
