Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the journalistic contributions of Sadriddin Ayni between 1920 and 1923 to reveal their significance in documenting Bukhara’s socio-political transformations and preserving its cultural heritage. Method: A qualitative content analysis was conducted on several lesser-known articles by Ayni, including “Let Them See and Hear,” “Address to the Jadids and Revolutionaries of Bukhara,” and “Mir Arab Buildings,” which were not included in his official collected works. Results: The findings demonstrate Ayni’s active engagement in chronicling the Soviet restoration of Bukhara, advocating for the humane treatment of the Emir’s relatives, and emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation. His collaboration with local intellectuals and support for historical societies illustrate his dual function as both a journalist and historian. Novelty: This study highlights rare and previously overlooked journalistic writings of Ayni, offering new perspectives on his role in Central Asian historiography and intellectual activism, thus contributing original insight into the historiographical narratives of early 20th-century Bukhara.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the characteristics and types of historical thinking—specifically presentism, passeism, and futurism—and evaluate their influence on the development of national identity among adolescent students in Uzbekistan. Method: A qualitative approach was employed, integrating psychological, philosophical, and didactic analyses to explore how structured historical knowledge, context-rich content, and imaginative engagement contribute to identity formation. Results: The findings reveal that nurturing historical thinking significantly enhances students’ analytical skills, deepens their personal connection to historical narratives, and fosters critical reflection and value-based understanding of the past. Structured historical education not only strengthens students' cognitive engagement but also promotes emotional identification with national heritage, thereby facilitating socialization within a multiethnic society. Novelty: This study uniquely combines psychological and philosophical perspectives with didactic strategies to offer a comprehensive classification of historical thinking, providing theoretical and practical insights for educators seeking to cultivate historical consciousness, national pride, civic awareness, and cultural continuity in diverse educational environments.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop educational strategies that cultivate an anti-corruption worldview and foster ethical consciousness among students in Uzbekistan by integrating civic education, interactive learning, and national moral philosophy. Method: Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research analyzes pedagogical practices, curricular elements, and national initiatives such as “Honesty Lessons,” supported by textual analysis of works by prominent Uzbek thinkers including Alisher Navoi, Abdulla Avloniy, and Mahmudhoja Behbudiy. Results: The findings reveal that role-playing, value-based competitions, transparent assessment methods, and community engagement significantly enhance students’ moral awareness, critical thinking, and civic responsibility. Teachers and institutional support systems play a pivotal role in reinforcing these values through practical and contextualized learning experiences. Novelty: This study introduces a culturally grounded, age-appropriate framework for anti-corruption education that uniquely combines classical Uzbek philosophical thought with contemporary pedagogical methods. It fills a gap in the literature by proposing a structured, context-specific model aimed at instilling integrity and resistance to corruption in school-aged learners within a Central Asian context.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the historical evolution of geographical names in the Miyonkol oasis, a fertile and strategically significant region in the Zarafshan Valley. Despite its rich cultural and economic heritage, the historiography of its naming conventions has remained underexplored. Method: Utilizing a historical-analytical method, the research draws from medieval chronicles, travelers’ narratives, and Russian-era documentation to trace the transformation of toponyms such as Nim Sugd, Sugdi Khurd, and Miyonkol. Results: Findings reveal that the oasis was not only a hub of agriculture and trade during the Turkic Khaganate and the Russian period but also home to important settlements like Ishtikhan and Ofarinkent. The results emphasize the oasis's central role in regional development and identity formation. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the historiographical gap concerning the toponymic evolution of the Miyonkol oasis, an area rich in cultural and economic significance that has not been thoroughly examined through historical and interdisciplinary lenses. The study implies the necessity for further comparative and interdisciplinary research, including digital mapping and archaeological analysis, to fully contextualize Miyonkol’s contribution to Central Asian history. This research reveals the various names used in historical sources to classify the geographical identity of the Miyonkol region. It explores how the area was referred to as Nim Sugd and Sugdi Khurd in ancient times and came to be known as Miyonkol during the medieval period. The study highlights the existence of strategically important areas such as Ofarinkent, Ishtikhan, and Sogarj.

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the role of military alliances, particularly NATO, in influencing the escalation and regional security dynamics of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict from 2014 to 2025, aiming to determine whether such alliances function as deterrents or catalysts of hostilities. Method: Employing a qualitative research design grounded in neorealist theory, the study conducted content analysis of diplomatic documents, official statements, and media reports to examine perceptions and actions surrounding the conflict. Results: Findings indicate that NATO’s eastward expansion and Russia’s perception of strategic encirclement significantly contributed to heightened tensions, illustrating the dual nature of military alliances as both stabilizing forces and provocateurs in international relations. Novelty: This research advances understanding by critically highlighting the paradoxical impact of military alliances in modern conflict, emphasizing that while alliances may bolster security, they can also inadvertently escalate conflicts when perceived as existential threats. The study underscores the necessity for transparent diplomatic communication and confidence-building measures to mitigate security dilemmas inherent in alliance politics, offering valuable insights for policymakers engaged in conflict prevention and regional stability.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the symbolic and artistic significance of animal motifs depicted by ancient humans, focusing on their application to pottery and their lasting influence on subsequent artistic traditions. Method: A qualitative analysis was conducted by examining various animal motifs painted on ancient pottery vessels, complemented by a historical review of their cultural and functional contexts. The study analyzed the use of natural pigments and artistic techniques employed despite the limited tools available during the period. Results: The findings reveal that animal motifs served multiple purposes, including protection from perceived dangers, magical practices in hunting, and artistic expression. These motifs, characterized by their symbolic nature and precise execution, illustrate the aesthetic sensibilities of ancient Iraqi artists. Their enduring presence influenced artistic developments in later eras, indicating a continuity of symbolic representation in Mesopotamian art. Novelty: This research highlights the early integration of symbolic motifs in utilitarian objects, demonstrating how primitive artistic practices contributed to the evolution of cultural and artistic identities in ancient Iraq, an aspect often underrepresented in existing archaeological studies.
