Abstract

Objective: The historical development of East Turkestan in the 19th century is pivotal in understanding the geopolitical dynamics of Central Asia. One significant episode is the rise of the Seven Cities State under Muhammad Yakubbek, formed after consolidating various khanates in East Turkestan amidst regional instability and external imperial interests. Method: This article aims to explore the geographical, political, and administrative structure of the Seven Cities State, its defense strategy, internal governance, and diplomatic efforts to preserve sovereignty against major powers. Result: The study reveals that Muhammad Yakubbek effectively unified the region, structured the state into hierarchical provinces, revived traditional governance mechanisms, and sought international recognition while navigating pressures from Russia, China, and Britain. The research offers a multi-layered analysis of the state's administration, integration strategies, and Muhammad Yakubbek’s pragmatic diplomacy, based on a synthesis of historical narratives. Novelty: The findings highlight the fragile nature of emerging states in contested borderlands and underscore the role of geopolitical foresight, regional alliances, and administrative reform in state survival during imperial rivalries.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to comparatively analyze genetic material in the Merdeka Curriculum and Cambridge A Level Biology, focusing on the approach to content, built competencies, and cognitive levels based on Bloom's taxonomy. Method: The study was carried out through the analysis of official curriculum documents and reference textbooks for each curriculum. Results: The results showed that both curricula covered similar key themes of genetics, such as DNA structure and trait inheritance. However, the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes more conceptual understanding and local contextualization with the dominance of the cognitive level of understanding (C2) and applying (C3). Meanwhile, Cambridge A Level presents material in a systematic and in-depth manner, demanding analytical and evaluative competencies (C4–C5), and integrating quantitative and statistical approaches. These differences reflect different philosophical orientations. The Merdeka curriculum focuses on meaningful learning and character building, while Cambridge A Level emphasizes scientific precision and advanced academic readiness. Novelty: The implications of this study lead to the importance of integrating approaches so that genetic learning becomes more balanced between academic depth and contextual relevance.

Abstract

Objective: This research is motivated by the low learning achievement of students in IPBA materials, especially in the cognitive domains of knowing, applying, and reasoning. This is based on the results of the TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) survey in 2011, 2015, and 2019. Based on the results of observations, the ability to know, apply, and reason are abilities that are less facilitated in the IPBA learning process in the classroom. One of the learning alternatives that is seen as having ways that can train knowing, applying, and reasoning skills is learning with levels of inquiry (LOI). Therefore, the study aims to determine the contribution of the application of LOI in improving student learning achievement in the domains of knowing, applying, and reasoning. Method: The research design used in the study was a one group pretest-posttest design with a research sample of 35 students at one of the State Junior High Schools in Pandeglang Regency. Results: Based on data analysis using effect size, it was found that the effect size value of 0.75 in the knowing domain and 0.71 in the reasoning domain was in the medium category. Meanwhile, the effect size value of 1.32 in the applying domain is in the large category. This shows that the implementation of the LOI makes a moderate contribution to the improvement of the domain of knowing and reasoning. However, the LOI makes a significant contribution to the improvement of domain applying. Novelty: This research highlights the targeted use of Levels of Inquiry (LOI) to specifically enhance the cognitive domains of knowing, applying, and reasoning—domains often under-supported in IPBA learning—providing empirical evidence of its differentiated impact across cognitive dimensions.
