Abstract

Land use and land cover (LULC) have become a principal catalyst of ecological transformation, significantly affecting biodiversity, ecosystem services, and climate systems. Since 1960, anthropogenic activities such as urbanization, deforestation, and agricultural expansion have transformed more than 32% of the Earth’s surface, threatening ecological stability. In Batubara District, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, rapid land-use transformations have raised concerns about environmental sustainability. This study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal patterns of LULC and evaluate their impacts on ecosystems in Batubara District, providing insights for sustainable land management and policy formulation. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing remote sensing data from Landsat and Sentinel satellites, and integrated with GIS tools. Regression and sensitivity analyses were conducted to identify drivers of land use change and assess potential policy scenarios. A stratified random sample ensured representation across various land use types. The findings reveal significant land conversion driven by population growth and resource extraction, resulting in habitat fragmentation, reduced carbon sequestration capacity, and disruption of hydrological cycles. Urban expansion and deforestation were identified as major contributors to declining ecological connectivity and biodiversity loss. Sensitivity analysis further highlighted that inconsistent land management policies and climate variability hinder effective environmental planning and predictive modeling. This study highlights the pressing necessity for integration and adaptive land-use planning that incorporates spatiotemporal data and policy frameworks. The results provide actionable knowledge to support biodiversity conservation, enhance climate resilience, and promote sustainable development in rapidly transforming landscapes, such as Batubara District.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of QR Code-based attendance systems in enhancing data accuracy and supporting sustainable school management. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted using the PRISMA framework to analyze 9 selected articles published between 2015 and 2025. The review process involved identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion, with data extracted regarding research objectives, methods, respondents, applied technologies, and findings. The results indicate four major themes. First, efficiency was the most consistent advantage, as QR Code systems significantly reduced the time required for attendance and minimized administrative workload. Second, accuracy and reliability improved through automated digital records, reducing human errors and enabling evidence-based decision-making in educational institutions. Third, security was enhanced with innovations such as randomized QR, animated QR, and dynamic QR codes integrated with geofencing and IMEI validation, effectively preventing fraudulent practices like proxy attendance and buddy punching. Fourth, QR Code attendance systems demonstrated clear contributions to sustainable school management, particularly through integration with academic and financial systems, thereby promoting transparency and institutional accountability. This review concludes that QR Code-based attendance systems represent a simple yet strategic innovation with significant academic and managerial implications. Future research should focus on comparative studies across different QR Code models, long-term evaluations, and wider applications in primary and secondary schools to further strengthen digital transformation in education.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the agricultural products that has a fairly high value, making it one of the export commodities. Ironically, however, the amount of exports from 2021 to 2024 has continued to decline, partly due to monkey infestations. Efforts to prevent monkey attacks have been made by designing monkey detection based on PIR-HC-SR04 sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and combined with a microcontroller as a controller, but the results have not been able to distinguish between monkeys, cows, and humans passing through the plantation area. For this reason, the use of cameras will be tried as a means of sensing the plantation area and replacing the use of old sensors. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to optimize the detection of monkey pests based on digital images. To achieve this research objective, the convolution neural network (CNN) method is used. In order to obtain maximum results, the CNN will be trained beforehand so that it can correctly distinguish between monkeys, cows, humans, and so on. The results obtained are not yet optimal due to the occurrence of monkey pest attacks.

Abstract

The student attendance system serves as a means to assess student engagement in a classroom setting. As universities transition from online to in-person lectures, they grapple with challenges associated with managing large student populations, notably the cumbersome task of recording attendance for performance evaluation. This process not only consumes valuable lecture time but may also be susceptible to errors and classroom disturbances. In response to these challenges, this paper introduces an attendance system using QR codes on smartphones based on PC. Each student is assigned a unique QR code, enabling them to mark their attendance using their phones, eliminating the need for an internet connection. Implementing this system offers the dual advantage of time efficiency in attendance tracking and the integration of technology to replace the conventional method of verbally calling out each student's name or asking them to write. The design of this proposed system leverages technologies such as OpenCV through Python, along Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio.
